That’s a good point. It would not be helpful to discuss their level of involvement. But yes, it can be said that Stardock has rights to use the aliens but chose not to because Paul and Fred have stated they intend to return to the Ur-Quan timeline and do a proper sc2 sequel someday even if it is a side thing they do.

Greetings! Your NDA is in effect for this post as you're about to hear all our secret plans. ;) THE BETA IS COMING THIS MONTH! In a little over a week, all of you will start getting Steam keys for the Super Melee BETA. NO MORE FOUNDERS While the Founders program will continue, we will be closing the program to newcomers. CLASSIC SERIES ON STEAM On October 16, we will be relea
Everyone who joined the Founder's program should start getting Steam keys around the 16th. But you didn't hear that from me. ;)
hmm, whz not original races? Who do we as supporters need to beg to get it done?approved etc?
It's a question of separating the lore and the aliens. We don't want to retell Star Control 1/2 and we don't want to have to treat Star Control 3 as canon. That isn't to say you won't ever see the aliens in DLC or something. But we don't want to be meddling with Paul and Fred's lore. <p
Quoting Hunam_, reply 11 The Crew Bar is not just an UI element. It's your crew HEAD COUNT. As long as it's moddable I could care less. You know what I think would be awesome? Crew silhouettes. Little green crew dots in the shape of a person lik
Cuoro, I could be wrong, but my impression of their "Living Galaxy" is just having other species, ships, etc, "in the background". You can interact with them if you choose to, they rarely (if ever) "bother" you. It's there for the realism, there is a lot more in the galaxy than just you and things directly related too you. If you want to contact/fight them, then they are there, but they rarely if ever force you to interact
Re Stellaris: Remember, we did the Yor a decade before them. I find Stellaris to be..ok. But it's really just dining of GalCiv's features still.
So with regards to the living galaxy feature (which is already almost done): If you have ever played Pirates, you know that when you travel around in your ship, you will see other ships occasionally doing their own thing. Maybe they're merchants. Maybe they're civilians. Maybe they're other pirates. But there are other things happening that are bigger than you. In Star Control, we're dealing with an area around 100 light years or so in every direction.
First off, welcome to the forums. :) As for dates, the original release date for the game was actually November 2017 to go with the 25th anniversary of Star Control 2. Games do get delayed and much of that delay has to do with the two particular design changes: 1. We decided to let players design their own ships rather than rely strictly on the ones we make. 2. We decided to let players craft their own planets and share them rather than relying strictly o
I’d love To talk lore. Let me know what you want to know! :)
Ep 1: 7 out of 10. ep2: 3 out of 10.
I do want to see variations in the same species. Right now it comes down to budget. The aliens are extremely expensive to create. Non-humanoid are much cheaper. ;) There are also very very likely going to be other species you run into that won't be given a name and don't have any territory in "known space" in Origins and you won't be told what their species is during the game. Origins takes place in a region of space around 100 light years from Earth.
I've been worried for some time as well. It feels like they've been making this game for 3 yrs now. Lol we all want to be patient, because we want a great star control origins game. but we've waited oh so long. They do make madden football every year, you know. Lol just sayin'. But I'm sure there are many working hard on this game. its works for me, a
We post frequent updates to the founder’s group. The final release date won’t be this year.
This is covered by your NDA. Don't share. https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7khu0ggtslhajp/StarControl-Sept2017.mp4?dl=0
I have slowly been kicking out humanoids ap since taking over the design. I don’t have a problem with humanoids but I tend to think they’re creatively lazy. I do take issue with calling g the Mow,I gas humanoids. They’re basically upright Meercats. Also, if the Yehat are non humanoid then you can’t call the Trandals, Tywom, or Scrve humanoid. taking a dog, bug, bird, etc. and making it talk isn’t strikingly creative ei
I also want to be clear about the issue with procedurally generated planets: It's not that it's hard to make them pretty. The issue is having them be interesting to explore. It's not like we're going to dump our procedueral generation code. If someone wants to create a Star Control universe that has a trillion planets in it, they can. And some % of them will be gorgeous and interesting. But, and here's the key difference: The planets in the new Star Control a
Fine. Stardock couldn't pull off proper PG. But, please, at least don't trash talk the ones that COULD. NMS might not have perfect 8 quintillion planets, but 8 quint. is not 5000. And NMS has at least 5000 breathtaking PG landscapes in its universe. Can we help build those planets for SCO, so it's not 100 stars with 500 planets to explore in 2018?
We could have essentially infinite planets. &
The landing stuff is t even close to alpha yet. ;)
The landing will matter a lot if there is lava or acid pools. Also, gravity and wind affects how easy it is to land.
Our view is with the consensus here. Eternal and Infinite would be a later OPTIONAL module.
Stardock has 64 player Super Melee in Stellar Frontier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd4QiUb3Xzg From 1997.
@Vol - Stellaris does that. They have multiple MULTIPLE space-born organic entities that travel space only, never planetside. Giant Amoebas bigger than planets that go to different systems to soak up the sun's energy. Sentient crystals floating through space. A giant void dragon in space near a very prosperous planet. Living beings that somehow survive the vacuum of space. Very cool ideas, full of wonder, and would be perfect for Star Contr
Greetings! As some of you guessed, our original release date for Star Control: Origins was November 2017 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Star Control 2. Clearly, that's not going to happen and this post will discuss the current schedule on the game. The Technical Challenges The first thing to understand is that Star Control is not a normal game. It is several mini-games in perfect balance with one another. That means you ca
