I'll pass these ideas along.

I had a conversation with Paul and Fred this past weekend on some of this too. Their #1 concern is that they don't want the two games stepping on each other so we are likely to coordinate with them (sort of like we did with the announcement) as we go forward. The points Rhonin brings up are spot on. We don't want any unauthorized screenshots or streaming of the game. We will actually have a special press branch for that. We can
In SCO, you will first meet the Tywom and then the Scryve. The Tywom, of course, have been watching humans for decades and really admire our culture. The Scryve have a massive but faltering empire who are destroying any civilizations they believe are a threat. They intend to wipe us out but have not yet triangulated our home location by the start of the game.
A few changes based on feedback: "Arena" size is being increased. The leash size is going to be affected by the speed difference between the ships. Thus, a faster ship will be able to have a much bigger distance versus a slower ship as compared to evenly matched ships. The planet(s) will be near-ish to the center As you near the edge, you will start hitting the ort cloud which will have asteroids. It's not a hard edge, you just run i
Short answer: This week we expect to send out emails to Founders with Steam keys.
This date has been moved to the 19th to address some feedback.
Wonderful post!
But how is the Vux any more real than the Tywom I posted?
The Tywom in game.
I like the Vux. But it doesn’t make me think grim or dark. The story is what delivers the grim setting. SCO is dealing g with a situation in which humans are under threat of extinction.pretty serious stuff. However, it’s also a universe where a lot of bad stuff has happened already and some races are a little callous to it.
The human Commander, looks good. https://1drv.ms/i/s!AuBwidOf1nOuifUL1pWVdh1xZqhpZw And the Mukay looks very much as good as the concept art. The Tywom a
I discuss this a bit in Discord but the themes of Origins are dead serious. The Tywom are comic relief to be sure. But that’s about the extent of it. The Xraki and Scryve are no joke. the sc2 aliens were, in general, not dark or edgy. The origins art style is, in essence, a modern update to the sc2 art style.
[quote who="johnyklatchian" reply="23" id="3691979"] Hi Brad, Sorry to be a stick in the mud... But, how can Fred and Paul make another SC outside of Stardock, if Stardock owns the rights? Isn't it like you making another GalCiv with Blizzard (for example)? Also, SCO is nearly ready, while they only announced their game two days ago, why would you need to coordinate release dates? <br /
[quote who="bleybourne" reply="20" id="3691893"] Quoting Frogboy, reply 2 Paul and Fred have stated they intend to return to the Ur-Quan timeline and do a proper sc2 sequel someday even if it is a side thing they do. Prophetic words there, Brad. How long did you know about their announcem
Only the hard core fans will care and they are the ones who will understand the most. The reason we did this was to pave the way for Paul and Fred's announcement: https://dogarandkazon.squarespace.com/ We want to make sure that people know that Star Control 3 isn't part of their canon universe. It's less about confusing Star Control: Origins players and more about making it easier for Paul and Fred's endeavor.
Paul and Fred weren't sure when they would be able to announce this but it is finally public. https://dogarandkazon.squarespace.com/ So hopefully this explains better why we chose not to use the aliens for Star Control: Origins. Unlike us, they can legitimately ignore Star Control 3.
Four years ago Stardock acquired Atari's rights to Star Control. I soon got to meet my hero, Paul Reiche. He was, more than anyone else, the person who inspired me to become a game developer over 20 years ago. Over the past 4 years, we have communicated regarding the progress of Star Control: Origins. He asked us not to try to make a sequel to Star Control 2 and said that he hoped one day to be able to return to the universe he and Fred Ford created. Recently
Broadly speaking, the IDEAL situation for all of us is, of course, if Paul and Fred and retake the Ur-Quan mantle and relieve the pressure on us to do something with those aliens. That's why we've lobbied so hard for 4 years to get them to do something even if it's independent. Once Origins ships, we can look at what the best path is to do. For example, we might want to do a Farscape based adventure or a Battlestar galactic based adventure or a BAbylon 5 based adventure.
[quote who="Rhonin_the_wizard" reply="7" id="3691722"] Wasn't Origins conceived as an answer to the SC3 dilemma? Origins expands upon the concept of multiple universes and alternate dimensions that were touched upon in SC classics. These are universes/dimensions we know about: SC1/2 - Ur-Quan Conflict SC3 - Crux Hegemony <
[quote who="Kavik_Kang" reply="2" id="3691688"] You know... Just a single "major appearance" of the original SC2 aliens would defuse a lot of what you are concerned about. You don't want to interfere with where Fred and Paul might want to take their original story, but what about where their original story already is? You could do a mini-campaign/story DLC set within the time of the UrQuan invasion of SC2. It doesn't change their story, or interfere with them, it
[quote who="Kavik_Kang" reply="1" id="3691684"] That all makes a lot of sense too me, I don't see any discontinuity problems with it or anything like that. And it works for me, anyway. I also don't think SC3 is a very big issue. Just ignore it, occasionally mention that you ignore it. It's not like some big uprising of SC3 fanatics is out there to backlash against it. Those who played it are probably in near unanimous agreement that it should be ignored
So as you know, for the past 4 years I've been talking to Paul and Fred about our work on the new Star Control game. We have also talked about what to do about the Ur-Quan Masters. Fundamentally, we have a problem: Star Control 3. Years ago, Accolade made a Star Control game without Paul and Fred and that muddied up the lore. Now, we're doing our best to clean this up by treating Star Control 3 as a separate universe. But that leaves the issue of Star Contr
Understand that in the description of the Star Control products we are going to explain they are Star Control 1/2 and Star Control 3. We will also update the GOG stuff as well.
Bear in mind, for DLC and such, we are open to pretty much anything. We are looking at having a DLC for all the shiips from SC1, SC2, SC3 which all founders would get. As well as a DLC that lets you travel to the Ur-quan universe where you would replay Star Control 2 if you wanted. Where we draw the line is on the story and using the aliens in ways that they haven't done before (beyond a possible cameo or two where it makes sense).
All the names are translated. There’s actually a lot of lore behind Jeff. His actual name is obviously not Jeff nor does he speak English. His translation tech uses terms we can pronounce.his real name is unpronounceable by human mouths.
