I definitely appreciate the insight on the game engine choice. I am definitely concerned about the 14 GB draw for RAM that the Nitrous Engine is preliminarily requiring. Optimization is a huge issue for a lot of gamers. Note that even the most sophisticated and graphically intensive games have not yet really surpassed 8 GB on average. The recent Rise of the Tomb Raider general

The vault is up [e digicons]:)[/e] There's not a ton of substance, and while I'm sure a lot of people here will understand and appreciate the hyperthreading and the engine-talk and all that - the actual content of the update is a little underwhelming. HOWEVER - there are a few key points to note and it was such a Rollercoaster, I felt like Winona Ryder's face at the SAG
So we're not going to go into talks about how to align data structures to better align with the CPU cache pipeline?
Working on the January update. Lots to talk about. Question: On a scale from 1 to 10 where 10 is totally sanitized version (i.e. marketing friendly) and 1 = you get to hear arguments over which lighting model or details on cmake where do you guys fall on wanting to know stuff? Don't just answer for yourself. Answer based on what you think is best for the game. Remember: Just because you might want to know the greatest depths, imagine how
What official mod tools are being considered for creation with the game? How many customization options due you estimate will be available for players to tinker with? Since a major effort in our development is to make it so that people can create their own stories and universes we’ve developed: Star Control: Universe Maker – Lets you design out your own universe
Hi all! Things are heating up (well figuratively, as it is actually super cold out) around here as we start to ramp up on the asset pipeline work. One decisions we made in December that will have repercussions for the game budget is that the modding tools have been made a priority. Right now, you have to be very technical to get assets into the game. That's why modding Ashes of the Singularity is so hard. For Star Control, we want people to be able to
Greetings! Well, it's 2:32am and I'm ankle deep in the Star Control code. Happy New Year! Warning: Rambling incoming. I took a few minutes off to celebrate with my wife and 3 kids. We had a quiet, family night at home for New Year's eve. Stardock is closed for the holidays so it gave me a chance to go whole hog on Star Control without worrying about breaking things for the team. Like many of you, Star Control isn't just a g
Or I should say...by the 31st.. ;)
It'll be the 31st. I'm almost done. :) It's long.
Yea, this month I got a bit overwhelmed. Besides Escalation, I did this: https://forums.galciv3.com/480826
I don't know how I missed this thread. Lol. Ignore the lighting here but alien dialog changes and UI changes are starting to go in this month. Putting aside the lighting and the 2D background, what I'm happy with
Go ahead and post your thoughts here (and link to other topics that go into side discussions).
What you described is Star Control 2's story. But neither Star Control 1 or 3 are about that. The only game I've played since Star Control 2 that felt like what I thought Star Control was for me was Mass Effect. A new Star Control game will, I hope, introduce a new generation to this style of gaming.
A lot of what has been discussed here has been discussed a great deal before. It boils down to whether you think Star Control is a story is a story about the Ur-Quan, Spathi, etc. or whether you think Star Control is a game about the Earthlings exploring the galaxy and dealing with a crazy cast of alien characters. I am in the latter. I didn't like Star Control 3 but it is, most definitely, a Star Control game. The best solution, given the realities, i
Star Control: Origins will take place in our little corner of the milky way galaxy. While there are thousands of planets and we expect it to take as long or longer than Star Control 2 to finish the main story, we have many different adventures in mind for the future that will add new aliens, new worlds to explore, new ships, new components for your main ship and so forth. At the very least, we have 3 major expansions along with about a dozen DLCs that will range from adding new
The Captain can be a man or a woman. :)
Stardock's position is that Paul and Fred own the copyright for the lore and aliens of the Ur-Quan conflict lore. Stardock owns the publishing rights for Star Control 1, 2 and 3 and the lore of Star Control 3. Those rights do include an unlimited license to the lore and aliens. But we don’t want to do what Star Control 3 did. We want a canon Ur-Quan sequel and only they can do that as far as we are concerned. The Ur-Quan conflict and the Crux conflict each exist in their

Great stuff! Thanks for compiling this.
So... The burnt orange color scheme of the GUI was universally panned by us founders... And now it has become part of our forum color scheme. Lee Hutchinson at Ars Technica got a sneak peek of Stardock's new Star Control: Origins game. The first short video of gameplay is with the article. You can see it all here: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/10/a-first-look-at-star-control-origins-gameplay-prequel-due-for-release-in-2h17/ It's a great primer on the original series (l
