I'm anxious to get some of the WebDev's team's time in the coming months so we can re-design this site. I'd like to create a library for people to submit Star Control related artwork (for the classic Ur-Quan timeline as well as when we start giving details on the new aliens and timeline).

Greetings! There's been a lot of news recently on Star Control and we want to make sure we have answers to some of the most common questions. What is Star Control? Star Control is a sci-fi action/adventure game set in the future where humans and aliens are trying their best to get by in this crazy old galaxy. What is Star Control: Origins? Star Control: Origins is the first game in the new Star Control series.
In addition to the study links I posted earlier, there is also this summary: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/temperature-change.html
That's the same chart I posted earlier in the thread. Temperature goes up, CO2 goes up. Temperature comes back down, then CO2 comes down. I'm not discrediting your source, we're using the same source. I
First off, as a fan of Sins of the Solar Empire, I'm happy you guys have taken over Star Control. Having made Ur-Quan Masters HD, I can't tell you the amount of times I was looking at your engine's graphical prowess with envy. I experienced this joy when I helped the 7 Deadly Sins mod for SotSE. I personally have worked so hard on Ur-Quan Masters HD, to get new fans, and generate enough buzz to get a new game. S
I kind of like the idea that you, the player, are in charge of ONE fleet (like in Star Control 2) but that you could potentially send your lieutenants out on missions (ala The Old Republic). Though my gut tells me we need to start very carefully and then expand on that as we go on. I.e. A Star Control game should be a Star Control game (if that makes any sense).
There's going to be some announcements over the next month. But we'd like to outright hire or at least contract UQM team members. A lot of what makes a great game are the details that can only happen if members of the team are really passionate and familiar with the material.
I don't think of SC3 as canon. Star Control 2 and Ur-Quan Masters establish, imo, the Ur-Quan universe canon. I think we can get away with a lot with the use of *something* altering the time-line way way back during the Precursor days to change things around. It obviously means that the Classic Star Control series will have a bit different timeline but also allows us to start with a new Star Control game without having to mess with Star Control 3.
My personal take, and this is just me talking, would be to allow the player to control 1 ship at a time, have it still be top down, but have the battle space a lot more interesting (i.e. not just a planet but lots of things in there in a bigger battle arena -- we're not limited by 640K anymore so we can do a lot more). But I am a fan of the top-down view myself. I think, given where we are in terms of tech, that we could have more than 2 weapons. But I think we'd want to
There's not much new to report. Probably the biggest ting will be how to differentiate the Star Control Classic games from the new Star Control games. For example, IF Activision doesn't let Paul and Fred work with us, we wouldn't feel good about using the existing aliens and canon. We'd sell the IP, at our cost, to them if they thought they'd be able to make a new Star Control game in the near future (I'm just speculating here btw but it'
You know, I have a bunch of the Star Control assets courtesy of Atari. I'll try to post them. I'm *trying* to get the Star Control 3 source too. It's just a matter of finding out who has it.
We actually did something similar to this back in the day in a game called Stellar Frontier. It was a quasi-MMO where players could add "solar systems" to a virtual galaxy and each player controlled a single ship against other ships with their own powers. It was heavily Star Control influenced. That said, we are looking at Star Control as something that we'll be evolving over the next decade. If you're already here, you know what I mean. The technology is here where we can rea
This is a good topic and I'm delighted that we're not the only ones thinking along these lines. If you want to get an idea of a new Star Control, take Star Control 2 and add some additional Starflight features.
In any case, at least doing it this way avoids the possible labelling of being a 'Star Control ripoff/knock off', has a better feeling of integrity going for it when you're actually operating under the same banner as the product you're trying to replicate/redo/enhance.
Indeed. Remember some years ago there were games that claimed to be the spiritual successor to say Pirates or MULE? It never works out because they aren't, at
I'll be writing more on this as things get more formalized but the new Star Control game is going to be set before Star Control 1/2 when the humans first start interacting with the galaxy after a visit from the Chmrr. The reason for this is that Star Control 2 came out in 1992. That's over 20 years ago. We will want to introduce a new generation to Star Control. So the events of the Ur-Quan war would take place in a sequel or expansion.
Thanks! We'll do our best!
It's a big galaxy out there! Share your ideas for new alien species you'd like to see in a new Star Control game!
We're referring to the Star Control games made in the late 80s/early 90s as Star Control classic to help differentiate them from any new Star Control games. Here are a few of our favorite sites for discussing the classic Star control games along with where you can purchase it. Star Control 1/2: http://www.gog.com/game/star_control_1_2 Star Control 3: ht
Greetings! Our story so far... Long ago, Paul Reiche and Fred Ford developed an amazing game called Star Control that was published by Accolade. They formed Toys for Bob and it was well received. A couple years later, Toys for Bob made Star Control 2 and it was an instant classic. When it came time to do a third one, Toys for Bob opted out and Accolade contracted development to a third party to create Star Control 3 which, while not a bad game, was
