^ This. But it doesn't matter, art is set in stone, Frogboy has stated that we are to reserve critique for things we still CAN change. Done deal.

@Frogboy - it wasn't meant as an insult about the aliens. It was meant as a probable reason ONLY, to answer your question: "Why are people hating on the art style? What style should we have gone with?" I feel that for, like I said, those 4 SPECIFIC creatures, they look cartoony. Secondly, I didn't say SCO wasn't going to be dark in nature. I merely stated that the SC2 art style MATCHED the grim nature of the game with realistic depictions of the aliens. Not hyper-real, or photo-real. But real

So I wrote a whole impassioned speech on why there is some negative response to the art style. The forum logged me out during that time, so when I pressed "submit" I had to sign back in, and it was gone. I ragequit the forums, but it bears at least saying, so I'm just going to bullet-point this: Star Control dealt with the most serious issues we can imagine here on earth; The auction of humans to crew alien vessels and be thrown into the furnace to power said vessels, mass geno

^ This. I don't know where it's written that all related iterations on classic franchises must be included, condoned and supported. My guesstimate is that 11 people would be mortified that their favorite game (SC3) was excluded, and refuse to purchase SCO because of that. Of which, I'm sure we could all scrounge up $440 from our couch cushions to buy those guys' copies. Just delete SC3, already.
I think it's cheap to just SAY it's unpronouncable and not ever try. A notch better if you sprinkle the name Jeff into the true name. But do this rather than just SAY "Jeff", and I know this is hard but record your best efforts of pronouncing it backward (with perhaps the exception of the "J" sound which really IS unpronouncable) and then play your reverse pronunciation backwards so the name sounds like this: &nbsp

Can I ask something, frogboy? Why? Why are you so hung up on not being able to ignore SC3? If I can state it bluntly... Literally no one gives a shit if you ignore SC3 permanently. Not one person. It's voluntarily erased from our lives and vocabulary every day. Why wouldn't you do the same? This makes no sense.
^ Be honest, that wasn't your initial reaction when you saw "Stardock - Star Control - all new" the first time.
Human, you are correct in that. However, I have spent a lot of time over 25 years dreaming up how to recapture the magic of SCII. I wish so BAD that I could experience that game for the first time, as a grown-up. To experience that tale, that enthralling mix of action and adventure for the FIRST time, again.

I really don't think it's as big an issue as we're making it out to be. Promote the new Star Control as having "An all-new sector of the galaxy, with a crazy, diverse cast of new aliens and all the problems they present - like the cuddly Mowlings who are in a tight spot, the Mu'Kay searching for a habitable water-world and the ominous, dying galactic empire of the Scryve!" I see it more as a Grand Theft Auto situation - you don't get to play Tommy Vercetti in every game, guys. Divinit
The Crew Bar is not just an UI element. It's your crew HEAD COUNT. As long as it's moddable I could care less.
You know what I think would be awesome? Crew silhouettes. Little green crew dots in the shape of a person like a bathroom sign, to really drive that feeling home that you just lost Swain and Johansen and McCord... poor guys and girl.

Your Yor robots filled my 20's with delight ;)
But in SCO, that's not the case. When you finish SCO, you have your ship and you can travel to other universes with whatever you've found in one universe. Congratulations to you guys, for setting your sights higher and further than I could ever have imagined. May break other people's universes, bringing

Well done, Frogboy. Not only because this was a great Vault Update, but because things have really started to come together once you took over producer and designer duties. And you are not one to drop your doodies! I think if there's one thing I'm most apprehensive about, it's the Living Galaxy concept. I'm not sure what that entails. I was hoping that got fleshed out a lot with this vault update, considering the last update finished with these dire tidings of what's to come:

Uh... why are you using DOSBOX? http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php - you're welcome. I did want to come on here to help you out with that easy, free version of Star Control 2, so you can melee your heart out like the good ole days. But, if you call Star Control II a "horrible, wretched thing" ever again, I AM gonna have to pound on you, just a little bit.
What I propose for SCO 1. Plater exploration One thing I did not enjoy in SC2 was the tediousness of returning to the starbase to sell resources. I would prefer that instead of harvesting materials when we discover them we mark the location for future expansion of humanity and are rewarded an amount of ingame currency. Also I recommend an option to randomize resource amounts on planets to make multiple play throughs more interesting. <br
