Also - Stardock does NOT need to worry about quantity of content so much that they put a bunch of filler fetch-quests! There's PLENTY of filler already built in, and that's a lot of the fun. The mechanics already include the good kind of filler! Planetary scouting, resource gathering, tons of combat - there's literally zero need for a "Bring me 10 tzo crystals" for whatever reason. You're already gathering tzo crystals for good reasons! On top of that, player mad

I think it should be called Star Control. Then, the naming scheme for the next several can be "Star Control - The ___ of ______". And each iteration after that could take on a new subtitle, avoiding ever using Star Control II. OR maybe StarControl.

[quote who="sendingsignal" reply="26" id="3612272"] So I played a bit of Rebel Galaxy last night. I was actually not that into the control scheme and it felt a bit flat in the plot from the get go. I guess I also should have done more research about if you can change the views, because I couldn't figure out how to change it from the closely following cam at that odd isometric angle. In any case, I took a break from it to play another game I hadn't tried before, a

First off, I want to make a post about Fallout IV and Rebel Galaxy. They had the same main, core problem for me. They both did away with ANY sort of interesting quests, and instead devolved into a shoot-fest for every single quest. And people won't understand if they never played the original Fallouts and maybe even New Vegas. But Fallout four didn't have one quest that involved for than "Go here and murder everything there" and that'd a goddamn shame. I played the he'll out o

It's really not the nature of a FedEx quest that's the problem - it's the implementation of it. You have to make it feel like it's not a fetch quest. If you think about it, there were tons of fetch quests in Star Control II! Fetching the pieces of the Ultronomicon for the Utwig? Fetching the Syreen's ship? Fetching the sun device for the Chmmr?? In essence, every one of these is a fetch quest, but NONE of them ask, "Hey, can you go take this let

I always thought it would be a cool idea if it started when We humans finally developed a ship able to make small jumps, maybe to the nearest system, Centauri. We pool all of humanity's resources to build just one ship. We make the jump and get to Centauri - only to make first contact right away... With a few small survivors of an entire planet that's been utterly destroyed. We find them in the wreckage of their freshly destroyed cities and they say this evil army came out of nowhere

These latest posts all bring up a good point for this thread - even if no proper nouns are carried over - will IDEAS be carried over? Will there be a horribly ugly race that thinks humans are the ugly ones? Will there be a race that can manipulate DNA? Mind-control all sentient creatures? One that lives in a gas giant? One that sells info for bio data? Will there be two races that combine to form a better one? What should be fair game? And what would be considered a "rip-off"?

I know the fact that the aliens aren't returning has been a talking point for awhile now and I don't want to start on the merits or pitfalls of that. But what about OTHER stuff? Will we see the Hellbore Cannon? Quasi-Space?? Tzo Crystals? Rainbow Worlds? An Ultron? A Sun Device? Are ANY of these things fair game? What do other people think, or want to see the return of? What would you miss?

Honestly, we're over thinking this now. I think, no matter what, we should use Star Cobtrol II as our model. When in doubt, just go with the original! Because now we're talking power ups and enemy scaling and multiple versions of each ship, and upgradeable alien race weapons and so many other things. What worked in Star Control II? That's the question.

I still have my binder! We mapped out every object and every location for every quest, as well as each home world, rainbow world and the approximate location the quasi space portals would spit you out! It was one of my best video game memories. As for how to translate that to a non-automated system within the game? Yikes. I got nothin'.

I'm torn now. I never used other race's ships, but I remember being SO proud once my flagship was awesome enough to destroy entire fleets. I don't want to lose that sense of accomplishment! But I also don't want to invalidate the entire recruitment part of the game... It's tough!

[quote who="dogchainx" reply="15" id="3604387"] Quoting gabryelx, reply 13 I think logs and ruins are a great idea, anything that continues stkry or backstory. Especially with precursor artifacts, there's a treasure trove of possibility. I'll never forget that initial moment of intrigue in SC2 for discovering that

[quote who="Kavik_Kang" reply="22" id="3604259"] I agree with those who don't want to see small incremental improvements in ships. In this arcade type of environment more dramatic improvements are more appropriate. For example, instead of the 10% damage increase you might get in a flight sim in this kind of game you uprgade to multifire instead, and shoot 3 shots instead of one (or something like that). If there are going to be ship uprgades, they should be more alo

It's not the alien or art I'm referring to. I don't like the alien design either! It's the top right corner of the art, where it shows your fleet arranged in a Diablo style inventory system. It's like the modern point system from super melee! Bring along 4 badasses or 15 relative weaklings and is a great way to handle the issue!

I just read through the design document and already found an amazing step in the right direction, regarding your associated fleet. Look at the picture of the rejected Thraddash... Er... THRAX. fleet overview, you can see some ships alongside your Vindicator... and they take up inventory space!! Omg, it's ingenious. So you can't have 20 CHMMR ships or Dreadnoughts... Maybe you can only fit 4? It makes total sense. Travel with 30 relatively weak THRAX Trashers, or 6 large, powerful Pods
