Okay Yevgeniy, this proves nothing. All I got from those videos were that 25 years later, the creators don't think it's a RPG anymore. It's on the box. The plan was an adventure game disguised as an "epic RPG"?!? How much more proof do you need??? And for the record, my box was purchased by me, when I was 11 years old, before it had the chance to win any sports awards. Is there some hilarious story behind that? EDIT: "Matthew" now?!?!? hahahahaha

Hunam...... Not even the bite-sized planets are something you can support now??? What ARE you on board with then? Are you just a naysayer about absolutely everything? There's a point where critique becomes taking a dump on any and every thing the developer comes up with. Are you making a case for 5000 life-sized planet to explore, to "keep with the spirit" of Star Control? How would that be SC?? And here I thought you wanted to update the game, but stay as true as possible to the

That is correct, sir! T'is an original. Took me forever, but he keeps a huge poster of it on his wall to show his friends, so I think that's a win ;) Thanks for the compliment! We can be friends now :)
Quoting cuorebrave, reply 119 That's my son! I'm always painting and I love Warhammer 40K almost as much as I love Star Control. So he and I always talk about being Space Marines, so I decided to paint him as a space marine! Hope you like it <
Oh and besides that, your icon kinda made it seem like you were a little kid in armor forcing the point over something trivial like how SC2 is categorized, and you were convincing no-one besides 3 argumentative posts about it.
Sorry About dual posts. When I originally posted it the website crashed with a 440 error. To compare the two is not realistic. when SC2 came out the planet graphics were 2D and very much like Starflight 1 and 2 in scalability. The scale was as such that it wasn't a matchbox on a soccer ball like these currently are. It just came across as the lander was VERY fast. SC2 lander was tiny vs the surface area. The planet
Cuorebrave, I've been a part of the Star Control community for as long as 1999, it's a bit of a habit of mine to troll the hell out of that community and treat it with a grain of salt and keep it light [e digicons]:)[/e] . Thanks for your clarification about the slam-dunk. I understood the basketball reference but I took it literally, thought you were going to play basketball and return afterwards. I'm not American,

And now for the swan song... I knew I was right. I knew it to my core. I just had to get to work to retrieve it. I keep it on my bookcase. Does anybody else have the ORIGINAL, physical box with (4 floppies) for the PC MS-DOS game from 1992, that so easily proves my point? I didn't think so. Who sees it? WHO SEES IT?!?
oh man, this is tiresome. Is cuore always this way? Could we please just meet in the middle and have Cuore call SC2 an RPG and everyone else call it a space opera or whatevah.?
Okay, noobie, listen here. I was pretty happy we had some new blood on here that would keep us entertained for the long stretch between updates (you). You even made a couple good points and showed some genuinely good knowledge of the star
No, no. You're mistaken. I didn't make up my own RPG definition, any more than you're deciding and enforcing YOUR definition of an RPG. That's really what this is. I'm taking the term for what it is - a general role playing game, where you get to take on whatever role you choose in the fate of the galaxy. Sure, the end game is whether or not you beat the Sa Matra - but the path to get there is based on how you play, what you say and the role you play in others'
Here's how understand RPG in a nutshell: 1. You have a character with bunch of stats that determine it. 2. You're able to manipulate those stats in the game (to shape your character). 3. When you do talking choices, the game code does your stat check to determine the outcome (karma, guild, alignment mechanics etc). 4. That outcome affects the story progression, consecutive NPC dialog etc.<br
Well, I suppose I ought to get at this from a different angle - instead of me telling you why I think it IS a depth-filled, meaningful-choiced RPG with WEIGHT... why don't you tell me why it's NOT? What's it missing? Khronobomb's comment is irrelevant because, as I said, your CHARACTER is not the captain him or herself, so it doesn't matter if you're the captain or the tech officer. Your character is the SHIP. You have to think about it like that. And you
That may be true, but having a series of yes or no decisions gets boring very quickly. That's part of what I despise so much about Skyrim. Most of its dialogue choices are "Yes." Sometimes you don't even get to say no. That's not a roleplaying game. The most RPG RPG to RPG was imho New Vegas, simply because the simple decisions you made early in the game created exponentially more and more choices the further into the game you

The thing everyone misses though, is that the "character" in Star Control was always your SHIP, not the captain of. And your "companions" from a traditional RPG, were actually your "companion ships" and figurative quest log filled with an excellent number of quests. And when you think about it like that, SCII wasn't RPG Lite - it was filled with advances, leveling, gear, loot and complex, game-changing interrelationships between species companions and extremely weighty decisions that chan

HEY! I only want to hit 100 karma before I give up and never care about karma again. I won't even care about real life karma. I kick old ladies and puppies when no one's watching.
Yeah, definitely! There's this one called Star Control II. EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. WAIT A MINUTE... WHERE AM I?!
True. Karma systems never feel natural and I don't wanna be locked into any one style of play or ethos. Besides that, though - karma did rear its ugly head in only one moment - when the captain heard you were selling your crew into slavery and permanently increased the price! Noice!
Also, Hunam - what are those grey dots below our avatars on the left there? And why is yours Rank 3?
You know what I think is the best argument to not have 3D models? I think their 2D artists, are, technically, more advanced than their 3D modelers. Not to say the 3D modelers are bad, it's just that the 2D art I've seen absolutely f-ing KILLS it. I love the concept art more every time I see it. Someone give them the spotlight!
