Let me get this right out of the way: Star Control: Origins has no planets in it with free-standing water. We've taken the very convenient (for us) position that free standing water is extremely rare and that instead,, water tends to be trapped under layers of ice. But according to a ScienceDaily article I read last week, water worlds might actually be pretty common. Now for you game

Great article on Astronomy.com today. The question is, would aliens even understand us if we communicated with them? We take so many things for granted when it comes to communication. For example, in Star Control: Origins, there tended to be an assumption that aliens would have a mouth. Why would they have a mouth for communication? That seems to be a pretty big assumption. It seems fair

We are less than a month away! Here are some new screenshots to show some of the progress as we near "gold". Update to the old-style computer monitor. :) New introduction after you enter in your data as you arrive at Star Control!

It is...FRIDAY! New screenshots! The further you get from Earth, the stranger the planets. The Codex is designed to help provide background on the lore of Star Control: Origins as well as a "how to play" guide wrapped into one. <img src="https://cdn.
Most of these "journalists" have an almost irreparable problem with Rule 5. They make their own rules and standards without ever even thinking about them being applied to themselves. The sheer amount of mental gymnastics it takes to operate like this is staggering to those of us who live and work in the real world. Most of these writers, deep down, know their days are numbered as marketable and employable writers. The

Lots of good stuff here. We'll have a new build this Thursday that will address some of this. We're definitely well into the subjective critiques (which is a good thing). Some of it I agree with, some I don't.
Well, that's another thing I've been wondering about. I mean...that's a lot of universe to put together. And I know that planets can be built by hand. But were they all built by hand?
There's a lot of procedural generation involved. We give broad directions to the engine and it generates what we want. However, every adventure, every mission is hand crafted. We don't simply take a bunch of random story parts and

Just to be clear: We have no problems coming up with names for planets. We just want to see about putting in names that mean something to you guys.

We are in balance mode for Star Control: Origins and part of this process involves placing hand crafted planets to help with late game pacing. Since we are hand placing them, we're hand naming them too. If you have a planet you would like to name, feel free to suggest them here. No promises but if they are fitting, we will do our best. :)
Those emails to the patent office were pretty enlightening. Not sure why there's all this extra discussion around copyrights when it looks like all they got is the code, which is frankly worthless. This case is feeling more and more open and shut. Oh and I wonder when P&F stop paying the PR firm bills how many anti-Stardock posters vanish. Has that started happening yet given P&F's cry for $$ to support their legal bills? I guarant
Activision and Spyro might not be the best example to use. Technically the same studio has owned them since their creation. Universal just went through a string of corporate buy-outs which ended with them in Activisions hands. The IP was never individually sold as Universal owned it, not Insomniac, they were only contracted by Universal to create the game.
Quite point of clarification for my curiosity, when you say "they then knock down." Which "they" are you referring to?
Paul and Fred. Their counter-claim essentially posits that Stardock believes it owns their copyrights and then meticulously sets up why it doesn't when in fact Stardock has no interest in their copyrights.
I was referring to the lore intended for GotP. They were already on shaky legal grounds because of that material's connection to the material in SC1 and 2, which is without question tied to the trademark, but it would still have been possible to make a game, WITH the agreement of Stardock, the owners of the Star Control trademark. Whatever P&F wanted to do with the SC1 and 2 material, they would have needed Stardock's agreement. That poi
