The Star Control universe is rich with interesting characters and species. From the cowardly Spathi to the horrifying Kohr-Ah, players will be frequently caught off guard by the juxtaposition of so many different experiences. In Star Control: Origins, the ever-so-needy Tywom are introduced. They will be your best friends whether you like it or not. We have all the submitted solar system names in. Some screenshots from today: Shadows on shadows. Glow in the dark plants.
Star Control 3 shows what happens when you rush a buggy game out and have questionable writers... And puppets.
It is a hard game to do to be sure. When SCO ships, it'll have been 5 years since we began working on it. That's longer than SC1 + SC2 took to make combined.
The issue is, how big is the lander vs those trees?
Those of you who are familiar with Galactic Civilizations, Ashes of the Singularity, Sins of a Solar Empire or any of our other games knows the power of visual progress. I suspect there are a few of you who would have wished that Galactic Civilizations III v1.0 had waited until we had done Crusade and released that at version 1.0. Of course, strategy games are a very tricky thing because they tend to be about "the feature" whereas an RPG like Star Control is about
Since the game isn't timed, if you sat and did nothing, nothing would happen. The universe changes based on your actions. So if you go and do something to species A, then something might happen. But in practice, you are, after all, only one ship in a very big universe. Destroying lots of ships from Empire A might cause Civ B to start taking over its territory and so forth.
When you start a new game, you are asked for your name and what you would like to name your ship. Here's the UI...
Great! just remember that we will be looking for feedback so only those able to give bug reports and suggestions should sign on. We will be adding new quests right to the last possible moment.
One of the things Stardock is, unfortunately, known for is releasing games as soon as they are "complete". That is, complete from a technology point of view (i.e. not buggy, feature complete, etc.). Star Control, however, is our first RPG. Unlike strategy games, RPGs have to be played over...and over...and over to get them to feel just right. Which means that Star Control: Origins was complete back in May but our release date is September 20. To b
Ok. Waiting for FTP access. In the meantime, you can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2322nxc179a37r6/Star%20Control%20-%20June%202018.zip?dl=0
Working on this right now. Stand by!
I see someone has probably violated the rules and installed two games on that system. I wonder if they were installed because they are "oldies but goodies" or if they are new releases.
I suspect one of them is brand new.
Gotcha. ...the X-rated DLC will be the bit you charge for, won't it. [e digicons];)[/e]
The Syreen DLC will probably involve a lot of things... ;)
Like most role playing games, Star Control needs a way to get players to enter in their character information. So how do we do that? Through a retro (from 2088's point of view) computer!
This is a crude image of star densities in the Milky Way galaxy. Star Control: Origins takes place in the yellow dot. Post-release, we'll be expanding into the red and purple areas which are immensely huge areas of space (the yellow dot alone has thousands of unique worlds with lots of alien species).
I had a question, GOG.com hasn't changed its store page on Star Control: Origins so it doesnt have the release date posted. And it still shows Beta 2 and 3. The final release is in September is there even time to have a beta 2 or 3 since beta 1 has been out since November of 2017.
we are on public beta 2. Not sure how GOG describes it, Beta 3 will go out in July.
I don't think we will see the Androsynth any time soon. Fwiffo will likely make an appearance or I should say, a Fwiffo as there are many Fwiffos (Fwiffo has a very large family, of 18,000+).
The Fleet Battles beta: Yes. The full adventure? No. But I would imagine you would not want to play an RPG before it is done.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 574 We even have a prequel book already published on the backstory of the Lexites. That seems to be a link to Dawn of the Singularity, which is set in the same universe as the Ashes of the Singularity game, not
That took a long time to post. :)
The biggest challenge for us would be porting it to those platforms which is going to take time. First Linux, then consoles and from there we can see.
We just finished updating the engine to make sure we handle Russian and Chinese characters with charm. :)
