Wait, I thought you just wrote it wasn't working? What does "sandboxed" mean? Update: Ok this seems to be caused by using the spacebar to bypass the dialog text. For now, use the mouse button to do that. We're midway through adding game controller support and the spacebar seems to have gotten...*frumple* with it.

It's been 25 years since Star Control II. Today, we hope to give the Founders the first taste of a new Star Control adventure game. NOTE: This is under NDA so do NOT video or take screenshots of it to share outside the NDA area here or on Discord .
They mentioned having the lag in single player mode, but more like a not locked in feeling, you would for instance press the left button (D) (or any control button for that matter and the ship will respond only after a short time (very short time but you can feel it) It's not direct response. Could it have been an earlier beta version ? And the issue been resolved in the latest version ? Sorry just would like some clarity as i'm getti
I have not had the privilege yet to play the latest fleet battle version, i would like to know if the handling of the ships have been bettered/corrected, i've heard some complaining about the ships not feeling locked in, when you play star control 2, your ships responds instantly to your controls, from what i heard some felt that there was an exponential feeling in SCO, you would turn the ship but it will take a while to respond, that's wou

The biggest, longest Vault journal is now available: https://www.starcontrol.com/vault Here is where I would rate us on a scale from 0 to 5 where 0 = not started, 4 is that it could ship and 5 is that it's amazing (May 2018): Category Score Story 4 Alien Dial
I'm not aware of anything that prevents you from demanding that the UQM Project cease use of your trademark. If UQM is using your trademarks, I'm pretty sure you have the legal right to say "Halt! What you are doing is illegal! Cease all use of our trademarked alien race names!" Neither do I think anything compels you to sue.
Sure. But that has been the case since 2013 and before that with A
I don't believe I've argued that copyright could cover a single phrase like that (at least not since I researched it a month or two ago). I do wonder, though, what the situation would be if someone published an album that copied all of the song titles from an existing album (but put them to different music). Would it just be the same (if you can copy one song title, you can copy them all), or would the collection of song names, t
Trademarks keep the copycat from copying the brand name/logo/label.
Trademarks exist to prevent consumer confusion. That is the test. It's not about "copycatting" something.
The UQM project was built on the idea that only the words "Star Control" needed to be removed to make a version of SC2 that doesn't violate trademark. I'd argue that the SC3 contracts certainly gesture at the idea that the Orz "belong" to P&F, since why else would Atari/Accolade have licensed them? I'm not saying we're right - we never really had any particular legal backing to our beliefs, it's just how the community understood stuff.<br
So... say we have a neat alien idea but aren't as talented as the artists over at Stardock. Will you guys be taking submissions or sketches and turning them into full thumbnail illustrations to make them look cohesive with the rest of the game's design? I would imagine having so many different alien portrait art styles would seem a little strange, no?
More likely people will share alien thumbnails with each other.
Sorry but I feel like I totally missed this detail about contributing an alien portrait to the game. I had not heard of this yet. I thought we were getting the opportunity to name a planet and maybe the chance at having ship submissions included in the game if they are clever enough. I've seen pretty much all the news updates posted here but nothing about this. Can you fill us in a little more?
Sure. So
If the easter egg style is enough to defend your trademark, go nuts. I'll re-install SD's games and give my thanks.
It's not enough. They have to be used in a way strong enough to associate these aliens with the new Star Control games in the minds of new consumers.
Does that mean that I can't feel that some of Stardocks actions (reactions) are wrong? Changing you mind on the use of aliens from previous games is something I feel very strongly about. It's enough that you will (have) lose me as a customer on all future games. Everything else is, to me, just noise and a distraction from the game.
So to keep your support we need to abandon the Star Control trademark? B
I'm even less happy with P&F than I am with Stardock. Make no mistake.
I want to say this very clearly: We are not trying, in any way, to prevent Paul and Fred from making a new game. We are not even trying to prevent them from having the Ur-Quan or anything else in it. However, we are, literally, legally required to defend our trademarks. That's what we mean by "no choice". We e
I was very clear that I supported Stardock because of the way they were going to handle the previous games. They lied. Simple. I don't appreciate the personal attack. I have every right to voice my opinion, no matter what you may say. And Stardock has the right to know what their decision do the opinion of long time supporters. Why do you get a voice
You say this, and it makes me very eager to play the game...yet I find I'd like a bit more of a nuanced description, if only to keep my expectations realistic. (I mean, we all remember the anticipation of how frickin' awesome No Man's Sky was supposed to be...and then...)
I won't go into No Man's Sky but it was a game about exploration. In Star Control, it is a game about the story. There is no randomness here. The big differen
Have to admit, the characters in SCO do look kind of cartoony. Granted, they were slightly cartoonish in SC2, as well, but if we have a scale of "cartoony" on one end and "uber-realistic" on the other, SC2 is kind of in the middle, leaning slightly to realistic, while SCO is more halfway to cartoony from the middle. I don't mind, exactly, and it's probably way too late to change it...but I kinna w
