What will be interesting is to see if we meet our goal for SCO to be a MSORPG (massively single player Online game) in the sense that players who want to solve some of the more challenging missions will likely need to talk to others online.
Brad, can you just ignore the rabble-rousers and focus on posting stuff in the catch all question thread that you created earlier in the month. this topic is a dead horse. Honestly I'm shocked you've not just locked this entire thread as it does nothing productive for Stardock. I'm excited for the new game. I want that news... not more rehashing about some fan
Correction: You have the copyright owner filing a DMCA take down notice on their copyrighted work, which you were selling without the copyright holder's permission.
For the sake of argument, let's assume that. The same individual is also making claims of having copyrights in Star Control: Origins. Would you be outraged if they issued a DMCA take-down notice of Star Control: Origins on opening weekend or would
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But your post is essentially asserting that anyone who comes to favor P&F in this dispute could not possibly be open-minded. I would suggest that this would need to come from a more neutral source to be persuasive (for newcomers, Frogboy is Stardock's CEO).
No. I just don't think you are.
But the way I personally see it, Paul and his group made the game, which was then published with a prominent copyright attribution to Paul and Fred. All of the other people involved surely were aware of this, and none of them raised a voice in disagreement. For me, that's good enough to satisfy my sense of proper attribution and rights allocation. We'll just have to see what the courts say about the legalities. [
The music is just one of many examples where someone else owned those copyrights. See, that's just strange to me...that a game developer would have a signed agreement with all content creators that what was made for the game would be owned by the company is something I'd have expected in all cases. But then, I really don't know those inner-workings; when I worked in
In this case, the argument is that Accolade never established a brand around any of the alien names; there were no "Slylandro"-branded pillows, "Shofixti"-branded firecrackers, or "Syreen"-branded...well, you get the idea. Even the Ur-Quan were only mentioned in small print on the box. Without any of those efforts, even though those names were part of the game, they never became part of its brand identity, and consequently are no
I think the issue you are having is that you don't actually understand the concept of a trademark.
I don’t think Pyro was referring to the trademark. Now, on copyright, as far as I’m aware, no copyrights from SC 1/2 came to Stardock. Those belong to whoever owns those various copyrights such as the artists, musicians, programmers, or anyone else who authored something that can be protected by copyright.<

For those of you who want to mess with gameplay, the various parameter.xml files at the root of the assets directory are a modder's dream.

Kavik, stop making off topic responses. People get upset with you because you hijack threads. You have very insightful thoughts on a lot of issues but there is a time and place for them.

Yea I would guess around 3,000 total planets by the end of dev. Assume 5 planets per system on average and that would be around 600 stars.

Was I the only one who noticed how games seem to be really focusing on multiplayer? Even games that have traditionally been single player? I'm curious to hear how our communities feel about this. Stardock is taking a big bet on Star Control: Origins. It is a single player game (other than Fleet Battles of course). The game is about you. I personally have no interest in multiplayer RPG games these days. So what's the deal?
