Yeah, I kind of had that feeling too. I when I start getting the ability to build enhancements that require 3 bc maintenance, I tend to stop building them :)

Speaking of which...is there a major problem when a planet's expenses exceed its income? Indicitive of a bigger problem, or nothing to worry about? I have a planet in my current game that exceeds the income by, oh, about 100 bc.
If anything, one of the things I love about the game is that I can't predict what 4 out of the 5 major races will do from game to game. The Drengin are the reliable ones. They tend to be nasty in every game I play, unless I'm shooting to be evil. Even then, the best relation they've been towards me is Friendly. Once, with only the Torian left (and I was evil), I showered them with techs and cash each turn, but they never got to Close with me. The Yor have more often than not be
Yeah, I have a firewall router, but it hasn't caused any problems with other online games I play. Tomorrow or the next day I'll have the time to play and submit a new game (I hate loading an autosave just to go through a game I already finished) and I'll give that a shot. Klaus, I'll look for that option in ZA. Thanks for your help, everyone!
I have ZoneAlarm installed on my computer. I can play other online games (Unreal Tournament 2k3, Vietcong, etc.) with no problem once I've flagged ZA to let them access the Internet. I also flagged Stardock Central and GC when I first got them. No problems with SDC...I've downloaded the last few minor updates with no glitches. My problem is when I try to submit a game to the Metaverse, the ZA prompt to "do you want to allow this program to access the Internet" comes up. After I
Just an update from last night...tried dowloading the new build this morning from SDC and it worked just fine. Don't know what was changed, but thanks :D
Brad, I get the following error message trying to update to 1.02.040 -- "There was an error installing Galactic Civilizations. The following error occurred: Result: Failed (attempt 2) Downloading: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\galciv.ex_ Result: Failed (incorrect file size)" It asks then if I want to view the log file. Know where I can send it (if that would help)?
Yeah, I suppose I could've done that, seeing as how we weren't even trading yet. I assumed the vote would be okay...so far from what I've witnessed, the other races rarely seem to vote in ways that would shoot themselves in the foot. Both the Arceans and I voted no, but the Altarian had a higher population than both of us. I mean, what were they thinking? Dang do-gooders... :p
Started a game on medium map, sub-normal AI all around. Got off to a decent start in the center of the map, grabbed five stars, seven planets altogether. The Altarians were right next to me and made contact. I flew to the west and met the Arceans. Not long after, the first UPC came up. The resolution we were voting on was the one where all civs in the UPC donate a certain amount of money every year to a goodwill/morale type organization. Somehow, the Altairians, who only had on
Rolandthemad, I agree with you. I expected better behavior from races set to be "good." In my first game, the Altarians did the same thing to me. Now, the Arceans, I could see doing it...they're neutral, so whatever is good for them, they'll do it. I can even see the Torians doing it. After all, they're chaotic good. But the Altarians? I figured pure good would mean they would be forgiving of other "good" races and outright shun and fight the evil ones. Speaking of which, has anyone not
No, it was just a "give it to us or something bad will happen to you" type of message.
So I controlled a third of the galaxy, and the Torian and Arceans controlled the other two (larger) parts of it. I see the Torains declare war on just about everyone but me. The Arceans send me a bunch of frantic messages about how the Torians must be stopped. I tell them too bad, so sad. Later, they try to extort half of my bank account from me for "peacekeeping efforts," and then again later to threaten me to go to war with me if I don't. As if. I decide to have a li
"Plus some playability tweaks. Morale is a bit easier to keep higher." I downloaded the new version and have been playing a new game for the last 2 hours or so, and this seems to be apparent. It used to be a struggle for me to keep my morale 40%+, but for a quite a bit now doing the same things I used to, planet morale is hovering right around 50-55%. There is no continual downward spiral like there used to be when I would take the same steps to stop it from plumetting. Thanks
Hmm...I checked, and I don't have any current leases or tributes that I'm paying. Oh well! :D
Playing a medium-sized galaxy, AIs set to beginner. I'm dominating culturally, no one's fired a shot, I've got a ton of starbases on resources, etc. Things would be okay, but I'm having a problem with my approval rating. I'm trying not to get my Populists voted out of office, but setting the tax rate to zero only gets my approval to 49%. I'm using propaganda on my planets, building morale structures (news network, entertainment center) everywhere I can, but my approval rating is slippin
I had that "tech share" UPC thing happen to me today. You should've seen my jaw hit the floor :notsure: On the other hand, my tech advantage was so much that not long after, I was already 5-6 techs ahead and could still get some leverage out of my research. The immediate downside of the tech share event is that the other races reap the immediate benefits that add to abilities. On the other hand, they still have to produce structures, ships, etc., so if you've been produced ad
"I had a Dragonin event... his evil ships started burninatin' my country side" Strong Bad, is that you? :D
I've had the sticking mouse button on the map, too. Actually, I thought it was a feature ;) Then I found out it wasn't.
From what I've seen, the game must save the last empire configuration you've made from game to game, which I'm actually okay with. You have to manually go in and change your point allocations if you're, say, changing from playing a war-based empire to a research-oriented one (as I recently did).
I'm currently playing a game, Large map, where in the beginning I started off with essentially four sectors in the corner, but one of them consisted of four yellow stars, with 3-4 class 15 or up each (hooray! LOL ). I then discovered that I had the Yor to the north of me and the Drengin to the east, boxing me in. Boo! :sniff!: I'm convinced that the only thing that has kept me alive for this long are the starbases I threw up to bolster my support. I currently have four, and
Did a little more searching...I don't have any readme files in any of the GalCiv directories either. As with Augusten, I downloaded and installed the game with SDC, and it didn't create a desktop icon for the game, either. LOL, I keep going back through the folders, thinking I may have seen it but my eyes are playing tricks on me. Still no survival guide (:(
Juno Reactor -- particularly their first CD, Transmissions. Very heavily sci-fi themed trance on that one, and they're one of my favorites.
I can't find the Survival Guide HTML anywhere on my computer. I chose the "download only" option for the game, used the Stardock Client to download it, and it has installed the game under Program Files in Drengin.net\GalCiv. I've looked in all the game directories (I downloaded the bonus pak and multimedia as well) and there is zero HTML in the game directories. Could you put a link to it somewhere on this site? I'm dying to read it. Thanks! Oh, and the game is awesome. :D
