Dragonin

Has anyone else had the event where the Dragonin take over one of your systems and proceed to mass produce uber-ships? I got the first message saying an evil force was coming but I didn't know what to do to stop it.

Well sure enough the Dragonin appeared. I figured I could beat them except they had dominators and overlords and other ships that destroyed mine. I had only recently gotten battleships so I had very few of them and I spent $15,000 purchasing them, but I don't have enough. How do I defeat these guys?

I got them down with about ten dreadnaughts and some dozen battleaxes. Just make sure that you don't let them conquer your planets. And pray that you are on good terms with your neighbours because if you survive, you'll have one heck of a time explaining to them just why they shouldn't invade you right away. ;p

At the level of battleships though, it's gonna be messy and you probably won't survive the show.

Yup happened to me this morning :(

Had to quit my game..i had only been playing 45 mins and just researched BattleAx's, then my Capital revolts and bang, im seeing ships i have never been advanced enough to research in any of my games.

Kinda sux that this can happen so early and totally wipe me out :

I wonder what would happen when you evacuate the system in question when told so. Anyone tried that?

Hehe dunno

It suprised me so early, didnt expect my capital to revolt, and start spewing out ships with 30+ attack, when my best defense ships are 5def hehe.

Next time ill try shipping them all of the planet and back on again.

Yep, heppened to me, too. I wound up having to re-start after the Dragonin revolt wiped out half of the galaxy with BBs and DNs.....fast.

I had a Dragonin event... his evil ships started burninatin' my country side :D

Foruntately, it was late in the game and I had about a dozen dreads sitting around after a (thoroughly victorious) battle against the Torian Weenie League. Cataleptic smote the Dragonin, and his empire was lain to burnination.

Just as a side note, I abandoned the planet as recommended (it was just a tiny new colony, so I didn't mind), but the silly Torians immediately re-colonised it. So even if you *do* abandon the Dragonin planet, the second stage in that event chain must lie dormant until its conditions are met (is it triggered off population or something...?)

I could try that sometime tomorrow from a savegame shortly after the event was triggered. I'll just park 8 battleaxes or something around the system to avoid recolonization.

I had the Dragonin appear in my last game. They come in at war with everyone, and with a #^@^load of money. I was the strongest power at the time, and they agreed to peace without a single shot fired. I got something like 46000bc out of them in the deal.

Isn't it technically "cheating" for them to appear with some 147000bc?? Not that I'm complaining for my last game... it financed my war =)

@Exodious:

I guess it would be hard to instate them as a superpower if they'd be put on the map like the other minors (100 million people, no money, "average" tech).

Grrrr Hope they tone this one down, just happened again, i had barely researched Battleax's once again, and missed the Evil growing message, grrrr once again they destroyed me totally in 15 minutes :(

They need to be toned down, or made a late game Random Event..how the hell am i meant to even hold my ground against their ridiculously powerful ships when i have only just begun making my battleax defense ships?

I had the same thing happen to me- I had just come off of a completely victorious war against the worthless/goody goody Torians. I just ignored the message when it came up- I figured I could handle it- plus it was one of my best colonies. 5 turns later- bam, bunch of ships. I rush everything I have down to the location (the war was being fought at the very top, this colony was in the very bottom right), but they didnt get there soon enough. So I reloaded, moved everything I had down into the corner and waited. Eventually the Drenigan came- but I was able to crush them on the first turn.

I think the key to this is: kill them the very first turn. Otherwise (if you dont have the tech), they will expand so fast you dont know what to do.

Now, if you dont want to "cheat" (as I guess saving and reloading could be considered), I would suggest a scorched earth policy- destroy every colony you have that they are going to take- then concentrate all your efforts on destroying there one colony.

One other thing- I believe when the Drenigin arrive, they go to war with everyone- not just you.

EAsily said Rhett =)

Cept in my games they come early. IE my only agressive ship is the star fighter with 3 attack. And my best defense is the BattleAX and some defenders.

Pretty impossible to stop them.

Yep, they're hard, especially the Overlords with 47 or so attack value. IMHO, this event should depend on the culture it's happening in having at least dreadnaught technology or even some of those units (or stronger) built. The only other chance would be to stack some dozen battleaxes as defence in each system, that got them down relatively well (one OL had only 5HPs left after it stripped 5 or 6 systems off all defenses).

Making this one depend on strong military could add a nice - though unfair - twist to a late conquest game and even break up strong stagnating frontlines.

Yea, its much easier said than done :D I think if they come that early- you're screwed. Unless some other race manages to take them out for you.

If you evacuate the planet, it's possible to retake it on the first turn. If that fails, then yes, you're going to have an uphill struggle the whole way.

The one way to eliminate the problem for sure, even better than depopulating the planet, is to depopulate the planet then destroy the colony. Then they never appear. (I had them drop into the middle of the climax of a me-against-the-universe war where I had been trying to take the peaceful route, so I played around with reloading different things to see what worked and what didn't). I don't know if you need to wait before you repopulate the planet.
