Also, regarding this whole idea of obtaining technology to opt of gameplay elements that players don't like, such as harvesting resources in late game, my take is that it should be implemented ... in a fashion similar to learning why Melnorme bridges turn purple. Make the technology cost some ridiculous amount that you can't actually pay.
Why?
If such automation is to be made available to the game, it should require a significant time investment to the point that you can't have the auto-mining feature AND the totally stocked out ship, it should be a decision that the player makes. One or the other, certainly not both, otherwise everyone's endgame ship will end up looking exactly the same.
1. Why should I care if my endgame ship looks the same
I do disagree with the notion that there should be an upgrade to give you all the benefits of the puzzle while not even doing it in the first place, as that would essentially grant free technology and resources with no drawback.
To be clear, I am not advocating tech that skips mini games used to unlock skins, lore, etc. Exploration, navigation, and resource gathering, however, should have tech that lets y

Regarding puzzles... I hate it when games make me solve a stupidly overused puzzle. Towers of Hanoi? 3 Unit + 5 Unit Bucket Filling? Simon Says? No, thank you. They don't add anything to the game. If any puzzles were to be implemented, they need to be part of a mini boss fight. Think Zelda.

^ Maybe. It depends on how the mini game is set up. If you always use Quasi-Space, you may miss encounters. I want a "skip the mini game but continue to give me the benefits that playing the mini game would yield" type of upgrade. So maybe it clears any obstacles from your hyperspace travels, but you still have to deal with encounters. There should probably be a cloaking device upgrade, too, that would let you skip encounters. All of these would be mid-t

^ You would probably need to learn Lua, Python, JAVA, or some other scripting language. :P --- Some more feedback... The game has a 68% score on Steam. There are 6 mods available via Steam Workshop, two of which are from Brad. So 4 mods... Having not played the game, my outside-looking-in view makes me think that the game was not a hit and that the review scores are driving away traffic. That in turn is driving away modders. I would agree with what you wrote, H
I'm all for admiring visuals and pretty music as you hurtle through Hyperspace, but I think more needs to be done to keep players engaged and interacting with the Hyperspace environment or there will be complaints of long swaths of boredom just to go resource grinding.
Avoiding enemies could be considered a mini game... But I get what you mean. I don't care about a hyperspace mini game being added with s

I appreciate the emphasis on the modding tools. As someone who has a few mod ideas cooking in the background, I can't wait to see what tools we will get. One thing that concerned me, though, was the following line in the December update... By contrast, Sorcerer King: Rivals, uses Kumquat and has a host of tools for modding (not that anyone is modding it..cough cough). So...... Why? Was it becau
I am frustrated that so much resource and emphasis is placed on "putting planetary exploration in real time" when it really doesn't matter much if you had a short instanced load between players scanning and landing on planets. No one would have cared. Now you have massive amounts of resources being used just to put planetary exploration and ship navigate/melee in the same world when there really is no huge benefit to doing
In my case I'm totally fine with planetary exploration being as it is right now (ref.: teaser trailer) IF there's MORE to do on the planets. Puzzle games, mini games, mini bosses, racing etc. I'm expecting 66% of the planets to be "duds". And by "duds" I mean nothing to do like Mars, Uranus, Venus in SC2 (picking up resources doesn't count).
(Mini-bosses will most likely be in, though they may not require

Ah, that's good to hear. I didn't realize your other post on object oriented modding heralded a reallocation of the budget, but I can see that now. Thanks for this. Months ago, there was talk of shipping without the tools. Is that still the case?
I agree that upgrades should be a major investment, but mining all the planets is, in my opinion, what I am so worried about. Having to roam back and forth to find that one last planet that hasn't been mined. Not to mention it kills potential replayability when you are experiencing and mining the exact same planets with no possible way to explore territory you couldn't last game, since in order to upgrade you already visited a

Module 1: an endgame module filled with mining drones that could fly down to a planet and harvest all minerals automatically. An upgraded version would harvest from all planets in a system simultaneously. Similar drones would also capture lifeforms. Module 2: A high powered scanner that can tell me which planets in a system have anomalies. These modules would be optional. Module 3: A stellar converter. Gotta have a stellar converter to destroy plan

Getting everything and being massively OP should require a lot of work. Or cheesing it like in SC2 (fly straight to Alpha Centauri, grab the exotics and meet the Melnorme, speed to the Arilou for the portal spawner and then use that to grab rainbow worlds and sell the info ba
