Modding Tools: If you build them, will they come?

I appreciate the emphasis on the modding tools. As someone who has a few mod ideas cooking in the background, I can't wait to see what tools we will get.

One thing that concerned me, though, was the following line in the December update...

By contrast, Sorcerer King: Rivals, uses Kumquat and has a host of tools for modding (not that anyone is
modding it..cough cough).

So...... Why? Was it because the sales of the Elemental franchise are bad? Was it because the review scores on Metacritic are low (SC:R is at 78 on Metacritic with a user score of 6.6.)?

What is going to keep SC:O from suffering from the same fate?

No, that's a good point. If the tools are too cumbersome (think WADAuthor vs. DoomBuilder vs. DeepSea), you'll have less modders overall, despite any level of popularity.

I personally wouldn't even wanna touch any tools if I have to read "C++ for Dummies" to even understand what's going on on the screen. But, before this happens the game should be 80+ rated and fairly known. Like NMS. XD

^ You would probably need to learn Lua, Python, JAVA, or some other scripting language. :P

Some more feedback... The game has a 68% score on Steam. There are 6 mods available via Steam Workshop, two of which are from Brad. So 4 mods...

Having not played the game, my outside-looking-in view makes me think that the game was not a hit and that the review scores are driving away traffic. That in turn is driving away modders.

I would agree with what you wrote, Hunam. If they cannot nail this game and achieve a score above 80, there isn't much point in us getting all excited about mods.

^ funny thing, I need to learn Python for work. Rhinoceros 3D uses it and I already can code in Rhino Script and Visual Basic. Rhino even has Python Editor built in with all the methods documented. I just need to force myself start using it for my new work related scripts and rewrite existing ones in Python.
