I will refute your statement with one (obviously very personal) explanation: Star Control II's top down combat is more fun for me, than Freelancer or Wing Commander or NMS or Star Citizen or Elite:Dangerous or Rebel Galaxy or the new SPAZ 2. MAYBE that's just me. Or MAYBE Star Control is special for certain reasons. I'm only relating that I think we should identify what's important about Star Control II and it being so spec
^ But why are we stuck in this whole, "Let's do what everyone else does these days" loop?
Because they don't think the old Star Control SuperMelee is a viable title in the current marketplace. It's a pretty clear message they are giving us, and it isn't a new message that they just sprang on us. No Top Down. No Point Buy. No 1vs1. No single planet. No local multiplayer. Wha
1. I definitely prefer the deck concept. This adds more complexity to super melee and counters the innate imbalance that Star Control has. Sure, this particular ship counters 4 or 5 other ships and would wipe the floor with them, but it didn't get drawn, buddy. Stack the deck? Welp, now you don't have the points for anything else, so this makes the player make more interesting choices when constructing fleets other than "14 of this

^ That is way more complicated than it needs to be. A point buy system and a maximum ship count is all that is needed. There wasn't anything wrong with SC2's system (aside from some balance issues that the 3rd party mod attempted to fix). Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel here? More importantly, why is SD spending money to reinvent the wheel?

For future reference, this is what the forums used to look like. I am giving this feedback because I'm guessing that the color themes for the board are going to be used in-game. The violet and blue clash. The UV blue-purple is too bright. I get sick of Burnt Orange.
Although, I really want Stardock to be careful - because if you've been reading comments on all the sites reporting on Star Control Origins after the floodgates opened today, there's MANY people who have been turned off by Stardock's expansions and DLCs in the past.
You could curry favor in the form of fake internet points by sifting through said comments and giving us links or more detail.

It feels good too me because of that.
You can admit that you are a secret UT fan and love burnt orange. (UT = University of Texas, for those of you who don't follow sports.)

So... The burnt orange color scheme of the GUI was universally panned by us founders... And now it has become part of our forum color scheme. Forward Progress!!!!!!!! Or was the improvement to add UV Bluepurple and Nebula Violet?
Okay. Started the download. It'll only be another 7 hours according to the estimate. But you know you should use a decent codec and give us a reasonably sized file - it wouldn't be hard to achieve a tenth of the file size with no perceivable difference in quality. (@non-stardock: yea - don't give me that pixelation complaint blabla; you know full well what we should be able to expect from screenshots/images and videos
"Dynamic response" means you "buy" ships on the fly (you don't pre-select any ships at the match start).
God I hope not. That would make matches take forever. Choosing a ship is slow enough. Choosing a ship and doing math is even worse. It isn't like local multiplayer, where you can just hit your opponent's enter key if they are taking too long to decide.

They all need to be playing on the same computer to get the spirit of "playing in a room together". :P Deck vs Dynamic Response: I assume that even in DR, you will point-buy your fleet ahead of time, like SC2. (Wait - We can't assume anything... WILL DR LET YOU POINT-BUY YOUR FLEET AHEAD OF TIME?) DR is the better system. Even though you are inclined to choose a counter, you are also inclined to hold certain ships in reserve until th
Just like you name alien ships based on words you know, you also design your computer/HUD interfaces on things you know. So the human head and shoulders to represent "number of crew" works for aliens, too. The interface is for the humans to use, not the aliens. So it really does make perfect sense. It just seems like you are losing something for no reason to change the little dots into a meter. Like other peop
They should be some kind of individual icon, something like that modern "head and shoulders" icon you see for bathrooms these days. It seems a lot better that way, seeing each crew represented. If some ships have 30+ crew or something just put a circle around the icon, make it slightly bigger, and that icon represents 10 crew.
