To be fair, " We haven't said one way or the other" is your answer to anything (edit: new) that is asked these days that is not part of the vault content.
I really don't understand why are people complaining here at all, of course opinions on the game an such but... weird
If you don't complain about something, you don't get anything fixed. Don't think that I am not appreciative that SD is working on the issues.
We're working on the forums update, and had to revert back to the
Regarding the edge boundaries: if there's no wrapping, I think the arena needs to be huge. Not infinite, but very large. Rather than a hard boundary, you could use a VERY soft gradual rubber banding effect to limit things (I think someone mentioned this earlier). I always viewed wrapping as a 2D simulation of fighting within a sphere of space, which means infinite motion in any direction (eventually coming back to where you began).<br
They are so trolling us right now. It's back to normal, and by normal, I mean broke but still segregated. Do you guys need help in managing the software that these forums run? Are you ready to switch to Reddit? /r/StarControlOrigins is all yours. Just say the word, and I will give a SD employee mod access.
Will these be supported on PC Controllers -- IE X-Box 360/One gamepad / PS4 Gamepad when Steam supports it. Virtual Reality Headsets -- Rift/Vive Nvidia Stereoscopic 3D support Augmented Reality -- Microsoft Hololense, when it's released
</
It's the same way as we know about space cows but it won't be mentioned in game.
Oh, they'll be mentioned. I am expecting much derision regarding SC3. Do not disappoint me in this, SD. Though, Not Star Control Origins calling Not Star Control 3 out is a bit of a hypocrisy...
Oh God, what have I done? I didn't mean to make you think that I wanted a way to get rid of the hiding control for the pinned posts. I wanted a way to get rid of the pinned posts themselves. Now there is no hope. At 100% zoom on a 1080 display, I see 13 pinned posts with no way to hide them. And now that pinned posts are in with unpinned posts, I cannot quickly determine where I should start looking.
I read a lot of complains about hand holding in games about a year ago. Now, suddenly, everyone is asking for it... So, which one is it??
I was pretty clear that I don't mind my hand being held. But I've also been pretty clear that I don't care about the rest of the game. :P
More pinned post feedback... I always want to hide them. Too bad, like many things with this forum, that the setting to keep the window tab collapsed isn't saved across sessions. Why do I want to hide them? Having 3478912634782693 sticky messages take up too much space, and I hate having to scroll past them or hide them to get to the good stuff.
In viewing the Trailer, I think the minimap of the planet surface with icons on where resources are would be helpful. In the old game, we got a top down view that helped us avoid quakes and steer our shuttle towards the resources.
I would rather have screen edge or floating-over-the-horizon markers for each collectible rather than a mini map. You could drive toward a marker without taking your eyes off the action. <
^ Aiming with the mouse is fun, but it isn't STAR CONTROL. And I'm afraid the Scryve are going to be set up like this with their turreted battleship. :( Plus, PCs can only detect one mouse. Finally, tying the mouse cursor to camera centering would be very frustrating. You'd have to put it behind a buttonpress or something.
I'm trying to tell people this, Kavik. ::shrug:: Kinda feel like it's falling on deaf ears. The original camera system doesn't need to be removed. It could use some enhancements like ship headings, ghosted gravitational pull, etc, but the core worked fine for 20+ years.
Snap zoom is a problem because the default position it will snap to will inevitably snap when I don't need it to. I should be able to lock it in any position I want for as long as I want. Now say someone IS using a keyboard and mouse, they should be able to steer the ship with the keyboard and control the camera with the mouse. Any idiot can do it.
That isn't the type of snap zoom I'm talking about. "Snap
I don't think solar-system scale is a problem. The ships are obviously powered with some super engines - it takes days to travel between stars. In that time frame, I can see solar-system wide dogfights being a thing. I'm very pro-multi-planet.
Here is some food for thought. General question. If we were to add multiple obstacles to the combat arena, it could increase the time
Just because I'm not using the mouse doesn't mean it can't be broken. Don't need to be literal here. Is the concept of broken peripherals due to rage completely foreign to you?
Not foreign. I'm pointing out your contradictions to try and lead you around. :P So, no mouse, and no controller. Just keyboard camera controls only. And snap zoom is bad? Because I truly want to find out
Who the hell said anything about a mouse? If there's support for it, I will play with keyboard only. Stop putting words in my mouth.
You did.
Edit: In addition, snapping camera controls piss me off to no end. No, that won't make me happy, that will cost me a mouse. t(-.-t)
What are you using that mouse for that could frustrate
Right stick? I refuse to play this game with a controller. That's heresy. Edit: In addition, snapping camera controls piss me off to no end. No, that won't make me happy, that will cost me a mouse. t(-.-t)
Playing with a mouse is heresy. The original games supported controllers and had no mouse support. I personally encourage you to use non-snapping zoom cont
Here's the thing, I have the feeling many of you are anticipating some sort of crazy "smart" free cam that will constantly be fighting against you, and I don't think that's the case. If any of you have played World of Warcraft, for example, if the camera controls are anything like the manual controls for that, that will be so simple that toddlers could learn to use it. (Actually, I've heard several reports where toddlers in
The tentative sequel title is Star Control: The Infinite and the Eternal. I think. That was what was in the document, but I'm going from memory.
Gonna beat this drum a little more... Nintendo just announced the Nintendo Switch, the portable console. One of its selling points is that you can snap off half of one of the controllers and hand it to a friend. Instant, portable, local multiplayer. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a version of SuperMelee for the system? (Not that SD would sign up to be a dev for that system, but still...)
^ What about arenas where if the ships are at the opposing edges of it your ship turns into 5x5 pixels plop and you can't even tell its orientation?....... What if there are hazards around you at that time?... Whatchu gonna do then, genius?
I will git gud at maneuvering that 5x5 pixel dot and keep my enemy in my sights.
3. The last thing I'd wanna do in melee is muck about with my view angle. Toggle between dynamic zoom (that allows you to have both/all ships on screen) and fixed combat level zoom is a great option to have though!
Question for everyone. If you are in a 1 on 1 fight, when would you ever want to not have all ships on screen? When would you want to zoom in close to your ship and not see the enemy? It was never n
To add some fuel to the fire regarding deck vs dynamic... I played the hell out of SuperMelee. Everybody I lure under my troll bridge was subjected to a few rounds. What I liked best was the ability to just grab a pre-built point-balanced fleet and just play . I liked how there were two different point-balanced fleet options, each with different ships . I would play one side, then I would trade off and play the other. I also liked the Al
