Here's another weird problem... I have Stardock Central installed at home (for playing) and work (for reading posts in lieu of actually doing work). Stardock Central had a new update a few days ago. Both computers indicated that they were updating SDC. At work, running Win 2000 Advanced Server, SDC is Build 18. However, at home, running Win98SE, my Stardock Central is "build 16", even AFTER going into add/remove programs and selecting "Repair". What's going
Not exactly a bug but it doesn't seem right. Two empires fought a war mostly in my space, although I was not a participant in the war. Finally one of the empires surrendered to me. That was the last of hostilities. The ships simply stayed where they were. The damaged ones weren't recalled for repair. Ancient stuff wasn't scrapped. The war was before the battleship era. The junk was still cluttering up my space when I was sending out terror stars.
I've seen the same sort of
For colony ships, an order to colonize the best planet you know of.
This wouldn't really work...it would end up sending all colony ships to the same planet, and then you'd have your colony ships way far from where they needed to go. Better to use F3, IMHO.
Ships in orbit of a friendly planet or starbase during peacetime should cost maybe 1/4 normal maintainence.
Or maybe a "Mothball" option?
The stolen ships now appear next to my homeworld. The problem is these ships are far more advanced than anything I can build. (Stated differetly, the technology needed to build these ships is far in advance of my current technology).
I usually vote to put it on someone else's homeworld, knowing that the prisoners will demolish their military. Guess it's all a matter of perspective. I played a game tonight, and was one turn short of a Final Frontier victory -- I
Technically, according to the backstory everybody -- including the humans -- should start with the technology to build stargates. After all, Terran scientists received the stargate plans, understood them, and from there worked out hyperdrive.
Yes, definitely.
8. Main map zoom in/out.9. Map bookmarks.10.
Multiplayer would be sweet! Although much longer games.
Much much longer. I tried playing MOO2 on serial link, and it wasn't fun at all. During the turns where I had nothing to do, I'd *still* have to wait two minutes to end my turn, since I was waiting for my opponent. I can't imagine *any* turn-based 4X game being fun for long periods of time, simply because you never know how long you'll need to wait between turns. If I want multiplayer, I'll stick
Also note that multiple party palaces appear to *MULTIPLY*, not add. That is, two +200% culture starbases appear to yield a +800% bonus, not a +400% bonus. Try it: build 5 party palaces in a sector, and use F8 to compare influence with 4 palaces, 3 palaces, etc.. So, you really want to have them in the same sector.
Let x be your base culture value. Build one party palace, culture = x + 200% x = 3x Build two party palaces, culture = 3x + 200%(3x) = 9x = x + 80
I wouldn't mind seeing some treaty options. Research treaties (perhaps only applicable if you research the same thing?), refueling rights (treat bases/planets as supply bases), non-intercourse (avoid each other's sectors; if you have no colonies/bases there and the other's leading in influence, don't go there), maybe a mutual-defense treaty (limited form of alliance; currently, alliances also kick in when your ally starts a war). This would complicate things further, though, and

Interesting... One of the new features in the upgrade seems to be that the program now places "debug.err" on the Desktop when I run gcmenu.exe from the Desktop icon. (I might have debug.err sooner if my desktop weren't so cluttered.) Here's the contents of the file: Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: Preparing to change display settings. Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as
After having the CTD when trying to start any new games in 1.05, I reinstalled the original version and upgraded to 1.04. This fixed any issues I had....I can always go back to 1.04 but prefer to use the new stuff in 1.05
At least you were able to get 1.04 to work. I have no idea why uninstalling and upgrading to 1.04 didn't work for me, and the only other program I have added is SmartException and the only other one I have upgraded is Stardock. Since both of

Okay. Uninstalled, then reinstalled and used the downloadable patch. CTD after hitting "Play Game". Uninstalled. Reinstalled. No updates this time. CTD after hitting "Play Game". Oh, and Stardock won't authenticate my credentials now, so I can't download the patches anyway. Grr. My only conclusion is that the latest patches added a registry entry that is gumming everything up. However, I'm not going to reinstall Windows tonight. Last Sma

Okay. Since my last post, I uninstalled GalCiv, and deleted the directory (reasoning that maybe the problem had to do with mod files). I reinstalled it, then updated at Stardock. This time, I got CTD as soon as I clicked "Play Game"!!! One time that this happened, I got an empty window titled "Flash". Hmm... SmartException report for my new crash... Just upgraded to 1.05.068. When I start a new game, after I finish at the intelligence-setting screen, the following happens: 1. When it gets to 8%, it stays there for a much longer time than in previous versions. 2. When it gets to 100%, it closes GalCiv and returns to Windows. This has happened several times now. Athlon 1700, 512MB RAM, PNY GeForce4, Windows 98SE. ~SDC~
