^ If a player has no concept of gravity, he shouldn't be playing games that involve it. Multiple pull points vs singular don't change much for the ones who do. I guess we'll be able to judge better after we try it out... Hmm... when is that gonna happen?...... Meanwhile, how do you assume to use that grid in melee, Volu? And why is there "anus" in your nickname? I can't help it, but

It's not about hand-holding, Hunam. It's that now there are multiple wells involved. Again, if we're talking about multiplayer, good players will use LITERALLY every tool at their disposal. Single player? Do whatever you want. You can't judge single player play, but competitive leaderboards will only show who won, not who did or didn't use a grid, that would be ridiculous.
If gravity wells are represented as rings, top down has a better view, if they are vertices of a grid like you showed, then angled is a better view. Still, in general practice how are angled shots different from hyper melee from sc3? They needed a grid just to play it right, and now we get that and a bunch of distortions to work with. SC3's style was harder to play with, but at least they had both styles. I

I share your concerns, and definitely want to hear about it, one way or the other. However, I don't think the fact that they didn't mention it necessarily means it's not present. Might've just slipped their mind to specify. Vaelzad, care to enlighten us? :D
Solar System view looks great. Planet Exploration game play experience looks horrible. Please bring back the top down view experience. I agree with the OP, that we need DOTS representing the crew. A bar is like a health bar to me. Doesn't feel like I'm losing people. Health bars make me feel like they're o
I've always felt there should be dead zones on ships that, while they don't deal crew damage, impact the performance of the ship.
Oooh, it was more than melee. It was a glorious strategy game. It was the actual war. Not just any war, THE war.
No, I'm saying if people don't use the tools given to them, that makes them less competitively viable.
Unless they remove the grid in combat, being able to see it will be a clear advantage. If both players have access to the feature, all that matters is who lives, not who did or didn't use it.
I'm not saying that there's not demand for 2d, that would be asinine. What I'm saying is that Stardock wants to take it in an unexplored direction, and they are completely within their rights to do so. I'm embracing a fresh perspective, because I'm not a stick in the mud :P I kid, I understand the need for some form of familiarity. I just feel that everything they've shown has a lot of potential to be really good and fun. Let's take the brief
The controversial part is that Plaent Exploration just became a 3D race car driving game. Where you're looking from the back of the car over (ala 3rd person view). If you look back at Star Control 2 it captured an audience of "top down view" players. Everything was top down. The actual gameplay is top down. You fight in supermelee top down. You explore the planet topdown.
So you should know there's a MASSIVE disadvantage for anyone without a clear view of the multiple gravity wells in combat. That's a pretty big deal. Like, in top down, all you're going to see are the planets, not the extent of the size of their gravity wells. I'm not sure if you saw, different sizes of planets had different sizes of gravity wells.

You still haven't watched the video, have you? Seriously, stop speaking out of your ass and watch it.
I'm not saying you can't play in top-down, I'm saying you'll be at a huge disadvantage if that's the only perspective you play from.
I haven't looked at the movie file yet, I'll have to look at that later.
Mods can move this to a new thread whenever that reply gets moved as well. You really need to watch that video clip before you comment on Super Melee. Once you do, you'll see the importance of camera tilting.
These are names I've not seen in a long time. See, you make an announcement about keys, and even the people who aren't interested come out of the woodwork ;P
Soon (TM). Also, if you haven't seen the video, while I know you're excited for top-down (and that's still totally possible), the new multi-gravity well system is far easier to see from an angle.
Yeah, I was about to say, if we've interacted at some point, we're likely going to get in. As long as feedback has been given (and according to our latest data, less than 0.5% of Founders even post), I'd say we all have a good chance of getting a key.
The site gets a little dry in the last few days leading up to new content. It's like watching an MMO expansion cycle every month :P
Woah, buddy. I know I'm usually known as the hostile one here, but you might wanna cool it down a notch. Relax, it's okay that not everyone like this thing you like. Just think nasty things about them in private like I do.
Now, aside from the obviously cool super-melee play... have you considered what it means for the in-world implication of the ship? "Sir, we're trying to stop at that planet and send a landing party." "That's a negative, we can't stop."
Okay, here's what we do. We launch the lander at 34.5 degrees as we pass by. If we're lucky, it won't impact and they
Yeah, this seems like something we'll see within the first month from the mod community.
If the game had no hype attached to it, it would right now be praised.....
This part is incredibly important to note, as it's relevant to a lot of things. I think this should keep us sober and remind us to hype SC:O to be exactly what it is, and nothing that it's not.
