I wonder how many apps you received already. Judging from the number of active users of SC forum it shouldn't be more than 100. Maybe all active users on here could get in. [e digicons][/e]

IMO Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygen II is a staple of the space music. As long as new SC music is along those lines, I'm a happy camper.
Controller is a must for the Melee. Endless Space has the best looking/cleanest UI (keyboard and mouse though) IMO.
^ I think he's implying that they'll triple proofread their stuff when it's done. ;)
^ I don't know if you missed it, but the original timeline is being rewritten (even if ever so slightly) to create this "alternate" one. The problem with that alternate timeline is that it's gonna be like a bastard child of a respected parent. It'll never be fully accepted and embraced by old fans. It won't ever be able to merge harmoniously with the original lore in possible sequels. Basically, Stardock forces 2 different SC universes on us with this decision. <
^ So, you ARE rewriting a part of the canon... I'm getting a feeling that it's either gonna turn out to be fantastic or a complete failure (like Mass Effect ending)...
2080 - 2085 - The organisation known as Star Control is formed. It is the military wing of the U.N., and encompasses all army, navy, air force and space fleet units. Star Control headquarters are established in Geneva. <
^ Will the galactic map around Sol be completely different then (for one reason or another that's coherently explained in-game)? Personally, I'd not wanna visit Gamma Krueger I and not find Pkunk there.
There are creative ways to develop a story that COEXISTS with the original story that DOES NOT use the original lore OR prevent Paul and Fred from expanding on their story.
I proposed exactly the same thing in one of my earlier posts... I think that solution would satisfy everyone, 'cause they'll know in the back of their minds that Spathi and Pkunk are still out there and the new players won
All looks good. One question though. Please, tell me, there will be no Earth in the game. Since we don't get Spathi, Pkunk and Ur-Quan we shouldn't get Earth. It'd be better if we got something like Lave in original Elite.
Back to the relevant discussion. Here's a gem to be inspired by: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EUq1jwl79Y
I'd like to see and interact with non-star-faring races. For example: a planet covered by a single sentient organism. A hive-minded asteroid dwellers etc.
I was really giddy when I saw this on the screen: And this gave me Kreygasm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPpYAUmNzY8
^ Practice on SPAZ. It might grow on you.
^ I can also imagine myself reading a book without any images at all and being enthralled by the epic-ness of its story AND being bored outta my mind by the imagery of the movie with the same name. 3D image can not warrant the deeper immersion than 2D just 'cause it has another visual dimension. I get it. We can't really judge and compare the two (Stardrive finished product and a basic 3D model of a talk test vid). Maybe it'll be like this:
^ To be honest, If you remove all the text from that StarDrive video and show it to me, I'd think WOW, is it the next Star Control dialog screens?? And if you show me the talk test vid. I'll think - this looks like some programming student's project. I don't understand why dialog screens need to be 3D and why lip sync is important?.... I really, really wish the new SC won't be like: User: "Guys, we want, more adventures, exploration, story, fun battles game
^ Why won't you just play Dune 2000?..... I'm for procedurally generated planet surfaces with real elevations, water bodies (rivers, lakes, swamps), woods, caverns etc. Top-down view. Full 3D. (like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMoeURO2NmM - imagine No Man's Sky, but with Top-Down view). ME Mako style amphibious lander. Ride around, pick up stuff, avoid dangers, jump over chas
I like the StarDrive alien graphics style alot more than 3D graphics from talk test video...
It'd be nice to have slots on your vindicator like Diablo inventory system, so you can arrange different weaponry across the hull. And if the weapon is too big to fit, you have to upgrade your hull or something of that sort and go with 2 smaller weapons meanwhile. I'm also against just stats upgrades system. It's lazy and boring.
I know, a lazy approach, but my story would be something along the lines of: 1. Full fledged expedition (scientists, inventors, psychologists, biologists etc.) to a far away star went bad - the ship got caught in "interdimensional fracture/wormhole" and was spat out in a different part of the galaxy. 2. You drift in an unknown space on a damaged vessel with lost hope and depleted supplies when your radar goes "live". 3. You get picked up by a humanoid ("
I would dream for the changes that the players can affect to be truly game-altering. To have "side" quests that are significant and not just a +1 somewhere on my ship. Make it alter my gameplay.
I wouldn't hold my breath for it. Bioware took 5 years to come up with a Red explosion, a Green explosion and a Blue explosion...
Please, for the love of Dogar and Kazon, don't make it in a timeline preceding SC2.
^ They rebooted Spiderman with Spiderman in it though.
I'd like to hear if Stardock can "destroy" this (and this looks pretty solid for a no budget game): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKFyubLQTS8
