Valuable to our security. Please.

You are just plain wrong about the potential value of the captured intelligence.  Has to be decoded (some of it) and analyzed (all of it) and then we will see what we have.  But, I would rather have it than not have it that is for sure!!

You want to make America safer, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE ARAB WORLD. That's what they want. You want security? GET RID OF THIS BULLSHIT GOVERNMENT that we have and start over. Find people that actually care about this country and it's people instead of money. There isn't one person in government right now that is there because they love this country.

Agreed…rather than the United States always playing babysitter to the world, we need to concentrate on getting our own house in order and let nature take it’s course in other parts of the world. Sink or swim, fight or flight, stand or fall, fail or succeed (and here, no more damn bailouts and gov’t waste!)…but all on THEIR own. If they want freedom, democracy and independence bad enough, they'll make it happen themselves. If not, so be it...

They could have caught him...took his DNA and shuffled him off to some dark hole somewhere for further interrogation.

You know WG, in this particular case, that wouldn't bother me at all.  Actually I kind of like the sound of it.  Certainly not an idea that's going to cause me to lose any sleep.

But honestly, just because of the nature of the operation and the target, I imagine he simply got shot in the chest and head.

Sorry this post is long, but I've been away for the last 24 and am just now catching up.

I do have a thought, M-203: Such photos would probably inflame Fundamentalists, and perhaps induce one or more to attack our leaders, servicemen and/or civilians i.e. tourists in countries with large enough Fundamentalist populations to have such incitable factions in the larger population.
...

That's the revenge part, which WILL come regardless of photos being released or not.
The immediate picture I got in my head when I read that the photos were supposed to pose a security risk,
was the SEAL Team standing around a body in the same manner a hunter does after he bags a 12-pointer.
Foot on top, cap pushed back, rifle laid over the shoulder and faces shown in plain sight.
Now if that is NOT the case, then I cannot see how a photo in this instance could pose a security risk.

Quoting DrJBHL, reply 98
DNA proves it's him if it matches, not whether he's alive or dead.
...
As for 'proving' he's dead? Photos can be faked, will be sickening and in the end just make us a look ugly.
.......
As for inflaming the radicals, just as you say but (and it's a real but) they don't know if he's dead or not either. Why give them evidence to motivate them and get them to name a successor sooner? Leave them confused and uncertain with an unclear chain of command. Much better.
...

Sorry Doc, I'm gonna have to call you out on this one.

Yes, photos CAN be faked, on the other hand, who's to say that:
1.  The DNA "we" have (think about who exactly has said DNA) really IS the DNA of OBL?
2.  The DNA that was obtained to compare to the DNA the "we" (see above) have, really was obtained from OBL?

No disrespect to the SEAL Team, I served myself, but, a SEAL Team, and myself when I was in the Army,
are/were in fact...     ...you guessed it, Government employees who must follow orders.

The above is just a thought I had on this after reading your photos can be faked comment.

As far as giving them something to motivate them into attacks,
if you think some kind of planning by some of those terrorists is not already underway,
;)   may I suggest that you DON'T
1. Wait up for Santa at Christmas, and
2. Do not put anymore of your teeth that may fall out under your pillow hoping for a buck!

What I'm truly joyous about is the REAL thing that matters in the raid on the compound in Abbottabad, the Navy Seals walked away with flash drives, cell phones, computers, etc.
...

Ooooo, more food for thought, and NOT a dig at your comment k10w3...!
The last I bothered reading about the hunt for OBL, it said they couldn't find him because he was off the grid.
Now we're told, and supposed to believe that somebody who's off the grid has all those items present at thier location,
or allows all those items to be present at thier location?
................NOT!

I must be tired with this many minor edits...

So if they released the photos, why would you not think they were fake?

The question was not whether or not they were fake, fake or not, how can pictures of a dead guy pose a security risk?  Re-read my first paragraph in reply #105

And as far as "two wrongs don't make a right"...when it comes to government I don't really think that applies.

You've taken that out of context. It was directed at the Arabs dancing in the streets due to 9/11 and the idiot Americans doing the same thing due to bin Laden's death.

I knew what ya meant...I was just sayin. ;) And yeah all that dancin shit is silly.

I did not say the DNA exists or doesn't or that he's alive or dead. Reread what I wrote.

Just to let you know, M-203: I served in the IDF in "peace" and war. I understand what motivates them, well.

As for "You want peace? GET OUT OF THEIR WORLD" and there won't be trouble, unfortunately their concept of "their world" is the world, unless they mean the "Holy soil of Saudi Arabia" or where-ever, natas2. Hey...I'd bring all of us home in a NYC second. Will they do the same? Or is that another double standard?

This is what I meant about capitalizing on it. Lets... after he retires the guy on the SEAL team will write a book titled: I shot OBL. He'll reap millions as it is sure to be a best seller. Another will write a book titled I Helped, so on and so forth. Already the media is clamoring to interview them. Put them on TV, all the talk shows. Beat it to death and make a mockery out of this country and the whole world will see Uncle Sam for what he really is. Controlled by the money makers! Wherever a profit can be turned this government has a shitty track record. Always there with their hands out...

"Gimme...Gimme..."

This is how the arab world views us here in the states. Their mindset does not work that way. Throughout all of history the Arab nations have held true to one thing. Brothers support brothers. If one is wrong allow him to save face so that his is family not disgraced. Force him out yes but be nice about it. Don't insult his family along the way. That may not be exact but you get the point. Their way of thinking is not ours.

Go back about sixty years when the US installed the Shah of Iran as Iran's ruler. The man was a dictator. He didn't care for his people that much. He was getting paid generously by the US in the form of weapons and money and control as long as he made available to them access to the vast oil fields. In 1979 the revolution saw the Shah gone and the country in the hands of fundamentalists who don't like us very much for that reason. Other Arab nations were treated just as poorly. The oil was their main interest. Control the oil and control a helluva lot more. There has been so much interference with those people from the US and other western powers that it is no wonder they hate us so much. I would too if you did that to my home.

well maybe they should stay out of ours, we have so many arabs coming here via illegal boats (jumping the que over the people

who do it legally and wait for years) .... and yet they hate westeners, but cant scramble over each other fast enough to get here...

im sick to death of the arabs, they are nothing but arrogant, hateful, and a voilent race.

They are jealous of the western nations because we are 'blessed countries" (food ect prosperity...ect)

When they come to your country (illegally) they demand mosques be built, everything has to be allah (meat slaughtering ect) and berka's are everywhere.

Ive just had enough of them.

You know what?  I think you're getting some sweet propaganda about the way the Arab world works (Brothers support brothers?  That's why there's honor killings, right?).

Interference is a 2-way street.  Yes, we're there, trying to capitalize on their resources, but they're also there, willing to take our cash.  Bin Laden didn't tell us "no way, you capitalistic pigs" when we offered to pay him handsomely, and train him, to take out the Soviets.  Pakistan doesn't tells us "You fat and stupid Americans -- KEEP your foreign aid money and get out of our country."

All of our countries work the same way -- extremely wealthy people with global interests control the corrupt government officials while the "regular Joes" try to eek out a living and take care of their families, showing charity to those that they are able to, and hope that some higher power intervenes soon to make it all right again.

i should also mention that recently on anzac day the arabs here said they were going to ruin anzac day with a protest because anzac day

to them was evil, so uvah, i dont agree with you, the arab nations have brought this apon themselves, they want to rise above other nations

and take control by force with bloodshed, war and terror.

The boats are not 'illegal', they don't hate westerners, the Afghanistan people are not Arabs and the burqa is worn by a minority.

The Australian media has a lot to answer for :(

those boats are illegal, run by boat smugglers, filled with people trying to enter australia without going through customs.......and the proper legal system.

anyway this is off topic, and i dont want to hijack a thread, so i wont say anymore.

Not at all k10w3 - Try to think as they do. From the mid 1840's when oil was first discovered the UK was the first to establish colonies in the region albeit for tea. India. Algeria became a colony too. France. Italy took Libya during WWII. Their history is replete with occupation from the western world and leaders were put in place by those western countries. Hussein in Iraq by the US. The Shah of Iran by the US. Syria's Autocrat. Egypt's Mubarek. These guys liked US money so much they did whatever Uncle Sam told them to do and when they were no longer of any use they get rid of them or made it possible. Notice how the US was reluctant to get involved in Libya until France started kicking ass and the Libyan people asked for US intervention. Kuwait, Bahrain, The Arab Emirates. All US allies propped up in the beginning by US money. You see propaganda. I see history.

I'm not knocking anyobdy who served, just in case that's how it was coming across.

Anyway, I know what you said, and the point I was trying to make,
is that while photos can be faked, who's to say that either the DNA on file,
the obtained DNA, or BOTH are real?  This information could be fake too.

The only way to confirm something like this, is if it was confirmed by an neutral independant source,
which is not gonna happen since it was  a US mission from start to finish.

Just curious, did anyone pick up on the last paragraph of my reply #105 on page 5 of this Thread?

jesus christ, the guy is dead. the SEALs took DNA, did facial recognition, took pictures and whatever else. the President and staff viewed the operation from the SEALs helmet cams. while the video might be entertaining if you like that sort of thing, is it really necessary. You really don't believe that the operation went down or the outcome as stated occurred?

That is not true.  They aren't all like that, just like all Americans aren't like the idiots you saw on the news after the OBL killing.  There is a fringe group that take their own meaning from their religion and bend it to their own ideals.  What set OBL off against America was our presence on their holy soil when the 1st Gulf War went down.  That is the defining moment when OBL set his dogs on us.

Seems like that would only lead to a discussion about whether or not the neutral independent source was actually neutral and independent.  (And I personally do believe that frequently they are not.)  Seriously, a person can go insane wondering about all the facts.  Sometimes it's better to just go cut the grass.

As individuals and as a community, we should remember events and History.

Those of us that may have lost family, loved one and friends need to move on with our lives, honoring those we have lost.

Making the World a better and safer place to live in is one way to do that.  :karma:

No, I meant the paragraph pertaining to him being off the grid, yet having all that tech gadgetry.
You don't have all that stuff with you, or allow it anywhere near you if you're trying to stay off the grid.

And as to whether I believe it or not, all I'm saying,
is something doesn't sound quite right about various aspects of this news.
I don't have enough evidence/information to form an opinion whether it's true or not,
whether it happened as they say it did or not.
But I know this "our side" are not all as innocent as some would like to believe,
for that reason, I don't just blindly follow the flag,
I try to consider all available information before forming an opinion.
