While I want to believe he's gone, I have to wonder.
They have announced this morning that they have confirmed it's him by DNA testing.
I was under the impression that DNA testing took longer than 12 hours.
Can anyone weigh in on how long it really takes to get a match.

I was just watching a news channel, and the ticker on the bottom was saying something like,
Pres. Obama has decided NOT to make photos available...  and then something about said photos being a security risk...

A security risk?  How does he figure a photo being a security risk?
It's nothing more than evidence that another terrorist is dead...

Quoting natas2, reply 74
Agreed.  It would have been more than enough to say to yourself "Good."
Instead, you have all these idiots dancing around.
What better way to make the rest of the world say "See, I told you they were idiots."  Idiots.

Hmm, lemme see, you mean exactly the way those people on the news on 9/11 did,
jumping up 'n' down and dancing about laughing, burning the Stars & Stripes when the Towers came down?

I say let the people you call idiots celebrate as they wish.

Having said that, whether people celebrate or not, I can't help but wonder:
who, where and/or what is going to be hit first as a result of the Military action that resulted in the death of the terrorist...
In my opinion, they won't sit still on this, terrorists never do.
Everything with them is about revenge, making it not a question of "if", but "when".

I am going to exercise the privilege of position and call you an idiot.

Please go away.

sorry, but is this not a forum for people opinions?. Just because you don't agree with him what makes you think you can resort to abuse? For someone who is meant to be a moderator i am quite disappointed Jafo. Yes i don't agree with what he said either but i aint about to make myself look the fool by making silly comments like the one you did. Sure disagree but keep your dignity while doing so, After all schleimig is entitled to his/her opinion on this FORUM and shouldn't be belittled or abused because of it. Shame Shame Shame.

P.S. I still think your a legend Jafo just wrong this time :)

The decision not to release pictures makes me wonder even more. They showed pictures of his son and the courier but not bin laden.

I wonder if it was a suicide. He said he wouldn't be taken alive and the only reason I see to not show pictures is they could cast doubt on the story we are being told.

In my opinion, not supplying proof makes Obama look like he's running the country like a 3 card Monty game.

I find the timing of all this funny. Obama relesed the forged long form birth certificate on the White House website the other day and it gets little to no news coverage because of this.

BTW, if you haven't checked out the long form birth certificate, download it from the above White House link and open it up in Adobe Illustrator.

It is so obvious that it's been edited and manipulated that it's comical. The editor didn't even try to hide the manipulations or flatten the document.

That is exactly why there is no constructive purpose in releasing photo's of OBL's corpse.

Its a done deal. They should let it go and not try to 'capitalize' on it

carguy, scan a home depot flyer, save it as a pdf, and open it in illustrator. it will have numerous layers, too. then do the same with a best buy ad. see how many layers you get with one of those. you'll be amazed. while you're at it, do the same with your birth certificate. you may think it's a forgery, also. this birth certificate forgery conspiracy is nothing but bullshit.

CG1, please. He's dead. I don't have to see pictures like those (if you've never seen such carnage, you're not missing anything). I've seen the real thing. It's not something that is at all necessary and will only open us to derision as savages. No pictures of any of the dead. If anyone cares, that is offensive to my beliefs, and I ask you to respect them. They are the roots of yours.

I'm sure there are conspiracies in this world. I really don't think this is one of them, and I'm tired of hearing about one lurking under every stone.

There's no need to dishonor ourselves by inhumane treatment of the dead. If the corpse was treated with dignity, fine. I simply do not wish to see one civilian or soldier harmed because a person with other values was incensed by our treatment of the dead - public enemy #1 or not. "Al ta'abed tzelem enosh" - "Thou shalt not lose your humanity", "Thou shalt not suffer a corpse not to be covered".

All these speak to the preservation of our humanity - by guarding the dignity of the dead. They are beyond caring. Therefore these acts of civility, even in the face of the greatest provocation, speak to our values and are honorable.

so the real story here is not that the US has finally caught up with OBL or that justice has been served, this is only a distraction to cover up the President's "fake" birth certificate that he volunteered up for review.

wow cg1, when I hear Donald Trump spout his birther theories I generally stare in disbelieve and think what a arrogant pompous ass this man is. But to hear your rendition, you make it sound so reasonable and plausible that it must be true.

The above was my main question, anyone have any insight into that?
And how did we get from that question to birth certificates?  Questions about questions...

[EDIT]
I not saying I want to see said photos,
just questioning the reason given as to why they are not to be made available.
I mean if they'd said nothing at all about any photos, I'd have had no question at all.
But why say they have photos only to not make said photos available?
Something is not qite right, just don't ask me what...

[SPEAKING OF PHOTOS OFF-TOPIC EDIT]
I am in the process of changing from PaintShop Pro over to Photoshop.
In PSP, I had a script, I believe it's a Python language Script,
that added EXIF data on top of a transparent background as seen here:
http://www.interceptor-one.com/Boats.jpg
The Script is editable to allow for larger or smaller text,
the addition of copyright and/or GPS info text, and allowed changing the layout.

Can anyone tell me if there's something similar available for Photoshop,
or if indeed the Script I have can be used by Photoshop?

I do have a thought, M-203: Such photos would probably inflame Fundamentalists, and perhaps induce one or more to attack our leaders, servicemen and/or civilians i.e. tourists in countries with large enough Fundamentalist populations to have such incitable factions in the larger population.

I found the second one concentrated events from a few places. It did have a slant, but the events speak for themselves.

So Americans should act the same way?  Is that what you are saying?  Two wrongs don't make a right.  Humans would do well to remember that.

People can celebrate any way they want, but that doesn't mean they aren't idiots for it.  If someone acts like a fool, they shouldn't take offense when someone calls them a fool.

Think of all the left wing U.S. hater citizens we have here going off on something like that. The government unions would probably strike and shut down the country. Sounds like a national security issue to me. 8(|

personally I think moderators should have two identities. one that wears the moderator hat, all reasonable and helpful, etc., and another that fits your pointy heads when you make these kinds of statements. I'd hope this isn't the official stance of WC or SD.

The bottom line is this. Whether or not the photos are released the terrorists are going to be "inflamed and emboldened" regardless. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't...it's not like they "need" a reason for violence...and all the photo would do is give them an image other than the one they already put on their banners. And if Obama is so damn concerned about our troops...why is it that if our government shuts down the troops who are in harms way for this country don't get paid...but the greedy insane politicians tucked safely away in their beds do? If this isn't hypocritical I don't know what is.

The way this whole thing was handled was a bit sketchy. On one hand they don't want to piss of the terrorists by releasing the photos...yet before the guy had a chance to bleed out he was fish food? And from what I've read this act alone pissed off the terrorists...in some cases it would have been acceptable...but this wasn't one of them according to them. And why the big rush? I mean it took roughly 10 years to find the guy and then in a blink he's dumped in some secret location in ocean.

And not to fan the conspiracy flames...but I feel somewhat insulted when they said that the "DNA" will prove it was him and that he's dead. Well how the hell does that prove he's dead without actually seeing him on a slab? They could have caught him...took his DNA and shuffled him off to some dark hole somewhere for further interrogation. It's not like our government is a shinning example of truth. And if they can shoot the woman in the leg why not him as well? Unless the whole plan was to kill him and not capture him in the first place. Like I said...it all happened to quick and a bit to sketchy.

In the end...without the photo...which I'm really not in a hurry to see...what choice do we have but to accept that he's dead...at the bottom of the ocean.

And as far as "two wrongs don't make a right"...when it comes to government I don't really think that applies.

And what exactly is a left wing U.S hater citizen? These labels are really vague and annoying sometimes and I for one would love to see them come to an end. How can we get anything done with all this division between everyone in this country. Pretty soon we'll have as many party labels as we do religions if not already...and none of them make any sense either. I don't subscribe to any party...so it doesn't apply to me...but I'd still like to see it end.

What the hell is wrong with this world and this country anymore? When did everyone get sucked into politics to this degree and when is it going to go back to people actually enjoying their life and getting along? I Love this country...but I'm almost ashamed to be an American. It's like we all live just to support the insane whims of politicians who are getting better and better at dividing us and driving this country into the ground.

I'm pretty much a left-wing US hater, but I can't think of any country I hate less than the US, we haven't colonized Mars or Venus, and Johnny Depp hasn't opened his island up to immigrants, so the US is still where I call home.  That being said, let me state I'm glad "we" (somebody, anybody), put an end to Osama bin Laden, I don't need a picture, video footage, or a fax of his DNA report to make me believe it, because I didn't need any of those pieces of evidence to prove to me that he existed in the first place.

What I'm truly joyous about is the REAL thing that matters in the raid on the compound in Abbottabad, the Navy Seals walked away with flash drives, cell phones, computers, etc. and THAT, my friends, is so, much more valuable to our security here in the US, than any proof of the death of Osama bin Laden (an old, diseased man who didn't have much longer to live whether he had a bullet in his head or not).  We OWN the intelligence trail that was in the head of bin Laden--why care about his body?

DNA proves it's him if it matches, not whether he's alive or dead. Another will fill whatever passes for his shoes, much like other gangsters and dope dealers. We'll deal with him/her whenever.

As for 'proving' he's dead? Photos can be faked, will be sickening and in the end just make us a look ugly.

Let's not supplant the "birthers" with "deathers". PLEASE!

As for the politics stuff, I agree. I'm tired of labels/code and other nonsense meant to divert us and polarize/divide us from dealing with the real issues.

"Was it legal to kill him?" Well, he admitted to planning 9/11 and he declared war on us long before. Case closed. Why waste time with this pseudo-intellectual wanking? Oh yeah... sells more T.V. time for advertisers.

As for inflaming the radicals, just as you say but (and it's a real but) they don't know if he's dead or not either. Why give them evidence to motivate them and get them to name a successor sooner? Leave them confused and uncertain with an unclear chain of command. Much better.

The plan was either to kill or capture... we'll never know which happened. To put him on trial? I doubt any city or place wishes to become another or potential "Ground Zero". If he's a captive, he'll talk one way or another. If he's dead, no loss to the human race.

As to this nonsense about the Pakistanis not letting us talk to the other prisoners? If true, turn off their aid and shut them down. Find their nukes and erase them (the nukes) permanently, in any case. Enough of this namby-pamby crap. If the World doesn't like it? Tough shit. I don't see them doing any better.

You've taken that out of context.  It was directed at the Arabs dancing in the streets due to 9/11 and the idiot Americans doing the same thing due to bin Laden's death.

Really? You think that that is going to make us more secure here in America?  These terrorists don't quit.  We may disrupt some plans, but they won't quit.  The world will never get rid of them.  EVER.  You want to make America safer, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE ARAB WORLD.  That's what they want.  You want security?  GET RID OF THIS BULLSHIT GOVERNMENT that we have and start over.  Find people that actually care about this country and it's people instead of money.  There isn't one person in government right now that is there because they love this country.  They are there to make money.  And public office was never meant to be a position of profit.

Valuable to our security.  Please.
