....Here is a breakdown of how scoring works:There are 8 possible Individual Bonus Points. 4 are given out to the four highest scores, and 4 are given out to the four fastest games. In case of ties, score games are broken by speed, and speed is broken by score. If score and speed are the same, both players will earn the Bonus Point. There are three categories that a Team can earn bonus points in:The Team with the Highest Average Score (all scores added together and divided by players on a team) earns 2pts, the team with the next highest average earns 1pt.The Team with the Lowest Average Speed (all game years added together and divided by players on a team) gets 2pts, next highest team average earns 1pt.Finally, Team Submission Time is based on the Average of Rank Order of Submissions......

Thanks for the clarification Silver. I had previously thought (for some reason) that submitting a finished before anyone else would garner a bonus somewhere.

I have some really good tips from a lot of guys (Villainy, Mumble to name just two entities) that will hopefully get my mind working in different ways when it comes to approaching the game!

Thanks again!

While the Primary Objective of the MVL is friendly competition between players; our Secondary Objective has become (and not from original purpose, but evolved that way) into helping players improve their game skills- its definitely one of the strongest aspects of the MVL and I applaud all our players, esp. veterans, who continue to make that possible.

@ Defcon. Don't sell yourself short mate. A 3 year win on crippling is a super effort. Great game mate! :CONGRAT:

As is one on painful, nice game Davabled. :D

I for one can thank the entire MVL plus my teammates over the months for my improved efforts. When we started the MVL i was a solid Challenging player just looking to go to Tough. After a few rounds of the MVL i was leaving Tough behind and starting to play at Painful and Crippling. In the past 2 months or so i have been able to move up to Suicidal.

Without the MVL i would have never had the incentive to up my difficulty, so I'd like to echo SB's thoughts and thank everyone who is and has been in the MVL for their efforts in helping Noobs and Veterans alike in improving their game and for making this a great community.

I'm getting my ass handed to me on a platter

...he said mulishly.

I'm looking forward to jumping in on the next round, this one looks like fun. I was hoping to do so with TA, but cannot get this Impulse... thing... to recognize my login. Or even connect to the stardock server sometimes. Grrr... the one night I had set aside to mess around with GalCivII, and Impulse is handing me my ass...

Here's my rather disappointing submission for Team E. It was, without doubt, the win I had the hardest to work for ever - usually I prefer setting that are close to 'rare all' with maybe three opponents on that galaxy size.

I don't think I can do much better, so I'll also submit a disappointing score:

Ahh but of course...and was seems the correct term now... ;p

Nice game Pndrev! It certainly matters more that you enjoyed the game, and winning from the position in that game i know you were in, than setting the world on fire with high scores. The win is the most crucial part, well done!

also, i know i'm a newb to this whole MVL thingie, but there are couple of stuff i'd like to ask the rest of members and organizers:

first off, i've been playing GC quite a while, tho before joining MVL i've never played with much caution or commitment, also i'm a megalomaniac and munchkin meaning "more is ALWAYS better"; putting that in GC tearms i have played well over 50 (maybe even more than 100) games, and every one of them was on huge map and above. when i joined MVL it was the first time that i've tried playing medium size map, and i must say there is a HUGE difference in tactics, priorities, and very much every other aspect of the game. that being said, i think that it would be much better to remove the map-size limitations currently present in MVL. now, i know there is one major reason (and AFAIK the only reason) why that limitation is set and that is time. some of the people can hardly find time for GC and there is a good chance that if they had to play a large or huge map, they couldn't finish it on time. and i think there is a quite simple solution for that: adding parallel rounds. lemme explain: from what i've gathered from info so far there are 12 (?) rounds/year, why not adding another six (or four) rounds that last 60 (or 90) days instead of current 30 days limit. that means that for eg. in March there is a tiny map for players to submit by the end of March, and then comes April where there is a small map players must submit by the end of April and large or huge map (immense maps would still be out because only players playing ToA could play them) the players should submit by the end of May or even June... that way every player has quite enough time to submit, there would be more rounds, more points, more different situations and tactics, and finally more FUN :D ; and as i said more is ALWAYS better :)

last i've noticed that no one (or almost no one) submits ToA games. i'd like to know why is that... i mean, granted its quite a bit harder than GC2 or DA but AFAIK in this league competing is not quite a primary goal and ToA w/o a doubt is much more fun (what i think MVL is all about, but then again i might be mistaken) and interesting than two other possibilities. it kinda strikes me as quite odd...

oh and pndrev, great nick for your MVL character ;)

Freeelancer: first of all economics are more strict in TA, making the early game harder. Secondly, many crucial score boosters (e.g. tech capital) are further down the tech tree or no longer accessible to all (e.g. spin control center).
Thirdly, we still have the research bug that causes research times to increase far too steeply over time. Especially with slow tech rate this is deadly.
I think this summarizes the main reasons why so far TA isn't competitive for this round's settings.

@Freeelancer: I have pondered over once in a while incorporating some larger maps, though Large is the most likely upper limit (one more size up); yes it is partly due to time but also due to difficulty. Since the MVL has to be able to incorporate all playing levels and styles, we also have to make sure that new or novice players are still competitive. A major concern with the larger maps is that veterans would trounce so completely over the newer players, they would feel slighted. That being said, I think we could incorporate Large Maps easily enough.

as for Twilight- partly its just too new, not everyone has it yet. I actually tried my hand yesterday but I haven't played it enough to manage a win yet, I just don't know the techs and improvements. There were also so pretty critical bugs and issues that weren't fixed until this week's (1.95) version came out. I know I will enjoy TA very much myself, but I don't like using the MVL as my "testing" ground, I reserve that for my other characters.

Twilight can't compete on score with DA or DL. This is due mostly to the MCC not giving a +100 econ bonus like it did in DA and DL, but the lower starting cash, higher maintanence on buildings and ships, often limited tech trees and situationally improved AI also all contribute. Unfortunately, I tried to patch mine and it completely broke it. Twlight won't start a game at all for me now. Pity. It's more fun to play than DA, but it may not be the best tactical choice for MVL due to its scores running lower.
The reason i don't play TA is a perhaps little different than others. I simply don't like it as much as DA. If the new graphics and ship components were in DA, i'd never play TA. But eventually i think you will see alot of games being played in TA, just not any of the uber high scoring games though.

I had picked them with a plan involving the Super Dominator corvettes, but I never actually used them like I was wanting to. I still have the original idea kicking around my head though so I won't spill the beans on it yet :) .
