I'm tired of doing so much and being appreciated so little.

Dude.. what the hell do you want, a real medal? Everywhere I turn everyone speaks so highly of you in regards to this amusing little game we enjoy and and now I hear this?
Please don't pull a Drama King on us.

And that goes for everyone else here too. It has been pretty civil here but when guys that are highly respected and look up to game-wise start leaving it's like an avalanche or like the October 1987 stock market.

You know what happens when stock markets start plummeting? They shut said stock market down for the rest of the day so things can get regrouped, thought out and cooled off.

Good advice in my book.

I think things have spiralled out of control a bit. Lets take a day or two of, in celebration of our one year aniversary, perhaps, or maybe just to cool down.

Personally I have been quite a silent member of the MVL lately. I've seen such marvelous organization, such accomplishment. To see it marred and ruined within two days has made me re-think my lack of participation. And I propose that round 10 be postponed untill all positions that need to be filled are filled and this sort of confusion does not happen again.

Went camping for the weekend, Almost learned how to fillet pike perfectly :p ...And come back to this.

First off... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY :CONGRAT:
2nd... Mumble leaving is ridiculous X-(
3rd... Good call on staying as commish for another round Silver :D

I dont quite understand how this great leaque came to this Disarray over the weekend, to the point of possibly losing 1 of the original members (:(  Hopefully He will reconsider.
I also know that no feelings were meant to be hurt by what was said in any way, I have more to say, but... I am very short on words and this is actually a very long post for me.

Since Silver said he will handle round ten. The thing that propbably needs to be done now is take care of making sure each team is properly manned. The way things stand The A team needs a captain and possibly another player if Neither Silver nor AF_Ronin are in. Kp I know has some worries about a teammate disappearing in addition to the two Generals. I believe Team C is also down a couple of people and may be in need of a captain if FB is out. Team B though having two that didn't submit(one with notice), VegJed did post that he's still in so may be ok on membership. Team E is all accounted for at the moment and good. Does this about sum things up as they stand at the moment?

I'd say it's up to the captains to check their teams status and report any shortages. Of course members of Teams A and C need to get together and name captains first, then they can get their head counts together. There's obviously going to have to be some team shuffling and I hope Silver as the current commish will make it by to take care of that when all team captains have reported their status. Sound like a plan?

I know there's been a lot of shock and awe recently, but don't let a couple of bad days ruin what has been a year of fun :) . Hopefully friendships can be mended and everyone(You know who you are ;) ) will return for an exciting round ten. What do you say guys?

Oh and btw; I am nobody and am not trying to run anything, but I do want to see the league continue and to do that we will need to move forward.

I think someone stepping forward to organize things is quite helpful at the moment. I've got a guess there are those other than myself who have hesistated to do so for fear of over-reaching and offending people, but we do need to get organized. Thanks for pointing us back on the right track DA :).

You mean like I was trying to do? :)

Anyway a little time has passed and I feel I should explain some of my feelings.

While most certainly this latest bit of unpleasantness contributed to my resignation, this is actually something that has been coming for a period of time.

While I do take offense at some of the things that some people have said to and about me, I have no desire to argue specifics of each individual case or discuss whether or not the offense was intended or of sufficient magnitude to warrant the response it received.

All in all such comments like “slap in the face” or “over stepping my authority” are things I would most likely ignore or attribute to frustration on the part of those that said them, but these comments simply came at the wrong time for me and I reacted to them instead of ignoring them. You can argue whether I reacted or over-reacted and like I said I’m not going to argue that level of detail but even those that might think I over-reacted must admit there is at least something there to react to.

Anyway, in isolation these things would be trivial and even if they caused momentary anger they would be nothing to hold a grudge over. I also want to stress that I don’t hold any grudge over them and hope no one holds any grudges in return. But like I mentioned at first, these things didn’t happen in a vacuum. Basically over the last few months these monthly games have become more of a chore to me and less of something to look forward to. However I felt compelled to keep playing so that I wouldn’t be responsible for any potential break in play or otherwise damage the league.

But basically when you’re playing for what other people will think versus your own enjoyment then that’s not a good reason to continue playing, but like I said I do want this league to continue even if for me it’s lost its enjoyment.

Hopefully taken in this light my resignation makes more sense to the league. These events were more of an excuse to do what I’ve wanted to do for some time as opposed to the actual reason I resigned.

I don’t want to end up like Bret Favre and make some giant fuss over retiring and then a couple of months later make a similar fuss about returning. I don’t particularly care to be called a drama king, but at least I can take solace in the fact that I wasn’t called a drama queen. :)

In any case I hope people can now see the motivation behind my resignation and understand the logic of it. Whether I will ever return or not, I really don’t know. If at some later time I feel the desire to play I will consider it but I will be very reluctant to do so on a whim. If I do come back it will be with some certainty that this is really what I definitely want to do for an extended period of time. It does no good to come back for a month or two only to realize that nothing has really changed.

So in any case I do hope my resignation does not negatively affect the league and I do wish the league as well as all current and future members the best of luck and would prefer to think of all involved as friends.

In any case I have no intention of disappearing from these forums and I have every intention of throwing all my efforts into helping the ToE overtake those overblown furballs (note: good natured taunting). :)

Mumblefratz, thank you for all you have done for the MVL. It is truly appreciated. I know I wouldn't have the patience to play even one of those 7 year 125,000 point games you've churned out with clocklike regularity (even if I had the skill). If the MVL isn't fun any longer than no one would want you to keep grinding at it, in game and and organization, against your will. Though your considerable contributions will be missed, (as I commented earlier) if anyone deserves a break, it is you. Your work to improve the level of play in the MVL and to compile our rules will live on, so you'll still be helping the MVL even after your retirement :). Best wishes for your future endeavors, and please know that I continue to think of you as a friend (the same as before).

One last thought: Would you have any interest in serving as an occasional strategic advisor to the league? Something like "Score-monster Emeritus"? I know personally one reason I joined the MVL was the hope of eventually ending up on the same team as you or Wyndstar and learning from how you approached each round. The rapid improvement shown by former team A members I believe is a credit to you as well as to them. If you could share some general thoughts in the round thread once in a while about how you would approach that rounds settings, I know I'd appreciate reading it and I'd guess others would as well. It should take a lot less time than playing a monster score game would, and you can come and go as you wish without negatively affecting anyone in any way. If this does not sound like fun to you, please ignore it completely :).

Would you have any interest in serving as an occasional strategic advisor to the league?

Sure. :)

Although really the rounds settings and victory conditions hardly make a difference to the way I've played each game. In my case there's really only one game to describe and by this time a lot of folks know at least conceptually how it works. But sure, I have no issue writing something up at some point.

However there really is far less variation in the high score game from round to round than there is in the quick win al la Wyndstar's game, so once told there's not much more to tell other than to give deeper details and very quickly you come to the point where that's all there is.

So what I'm saying is as far as any MVL specific advice, anything I can give is probably rather limited. Once you know, that's pretty much it. As far as general game stuff, just look for me and I'll be around. Like in Livonya's million point game thread or the Metaverse Scoring thread.

Anyway as I said I wish the league and all its members nothing but good luck. :)

Mumble, sorry that you feel its time to leave, but your efforts will always be appreciated. Perhaps you will return at some point in the future.

Team D may be ok for the next round, but I'm not absolutely certain yet.

Team A is probably actually down to 2 people, as Ghostwes also said he was dropping out. We may need to consider the necessity of contracting to four teams if we cant fully fill five.

I may have at least one person interested in joining, maybe two, but I'm not certain about either of them yet.

As always, spots are open for a person's eventual return.

Well, it looks like we may have to do some minor restructuring but...we'll cross that bridge as we come to it.

In the meantime, I hope to get a "One Year Anniversary" thread started here soon, and basically, rebuild our numbers.

I am staying on in the interim- as trying as it may be lol-.

Anyhow- can someone get me a head count of where we are at currently? KP? Just PM me with it.

Thanks,

Silver

OK kiddos

A few things:

We have some restructuring to do for sure over the next few days; some teams may have to prepare for some of their players to get shifted to other teams due to player count. I have received notice that Loupdinour would like to join the MVL, and Dystopic has made mention to me that he is looking to return here soon also.

Also, I am announcing the formation of a Administration Support Triumvirate, made up of KzintiPatriarch, DethAdder, and Neilo. This Support Team will act on behalf of the Commissioner in case I am unable to handle an issue that has arisen due to that I am still currently bogged down in RL commitments. They will work in an Unanimous Coordination, and all round settings, rulings, team placement, or other action taken by them, will be considered Binding on the League, unless there is an obvious majority of disagreement by the Players, or the Ruling is Overruled by Myself.

Is is HIGHLY unlikely that this Support Team will undertake any action whatsoever, but I wanted to put it into place, in case a situation arises that I am not around for. Again, please note, that any decision by the Support Group MUST be Unanimous for it to be considered Binding.

Also, we have two teams that are currently without Captains. May I nominate Noctilucus to take over the Crusaders. As for the A-Team, it will continue in the meantime to have an Open Captaincy, with me and PlayJeff45 handling any duties that may arise.

Finally, either later tonight, or early tomorrow, I will be posting the "One Year Anniversary" thread- please look for it, and post some of your fondest memories of the MVL

Thank you for your time and patience,

Silverbeacher

2 Questions:

1. When will the next round be?
2. Will another draft occur before the next round?

Yup. I'm in.

Etrius. What happened to you? We figured you were gone since you didn't submit nor gave any notice about it.

There will not be draft as such, but do to fairness and the rules there may have to be a couple of people moved from one team to another to fill out those that are short.

Round 10 will start either late this week, or early next week.

There will not be a Draft, but there is a possibility that some players may get shifted around, depending on team sizes.

Well, as long as nobody gets involved with Cleopatra or starts a war with the Parthians we should be all right...

I see there has been quite a disturbance in The Force since my last visit. Mumble, I am sorry to see you go. What we will begin to lack in eloquence, we can only hope to make up for with enthusiasm.

I am indeed up for playing in the coming round. I haven't even had a chance to start a game recently, and am looking forward to it. I'll be at the beach from Friday through next Sunday, so if the round starts up during that time, don't wait around for me - I'll jump in when I get back.

I screwed real bad in my game, so I didn't post it. :NOTSURE:

Any game, whether you think its good or bad is worth posting. The MVL is part team effort, and part individual effort. Also, if you make it to our team forum at the Core, we'll be sure to help out with strategy hints and tips. :)

For those that may have missed the Anniversary or the Recruitment threads...

TheGreatEmperor was moved to the Crusaders

Dystopic was placed on the A Team

Loupdinour to the Domination

and if E-Stab joins, he'll be on the Crusaders also

I am currently up in Michigan working and don't have GCII on this computer so I PMed, KP the Round criteria for Round 10 and he should have that up for everyone later this evening.

I did forget to tell him that Round 10 will end at 11:59PM on Sunday, Augst 24th 2008
