...and a new mark set :D 8th April finish (economy would not support another turn, even if I wanted to). I don't think the all factory approach is viable, no way you can get the research levels needed as far as I can see (could be wrong though). Now, just give me a pre-cursor library and 40K is definitely on!

April 8th every time. Nice one Wyndstar :D
Hi Neilo, KP, Justinsane et al I figured the Kzinti had got a big enough lead over the Diplomats to warrant a return ;) That and dusting off the strategy ready for an immense galaxy in TA Awesome achievement on the 250 games, by the way, I can't bang them out at under 10 minutes yet! Nothing much different done to what has already been discussed here - just focus on the 3 most important things: Economy, economy, & economy - even in a short 13 turn game it ma
Well, there was a challenge I couldn't resist :)
Congrats Purge - enjoy it while it lasts, they have a tendency to grow up very quickly I've noticed (eldest is now 13, and it doesn't feel that long ago)!
The last best beta version I can remember of ever being close to stable was Beta 3 and now were just stuck with the option of downloading Beta 4. It's a BETA version - stability is not guaranteed. Untick "show pre-release versions" in SDC, go back to the last official release, and wait for 1.6 final release to come out if you can't handle the expected problems that are bound to occur with beta releases of any software.
Plus my baby is due any day now. You are going to have your hands full I think Hope it all goes well - first one?
The guy who posted saying he considered his machine "top end", then listed specs of a Celeron 1.7, 512Mb RAM and integrated intel graphics, or something like that. That was funny (in a geeky sort of way)
Why or why does the world change? To stop us all sleeping through it You gonna get this next game in soon, and take a loan of the shiny? Not sure I can drag my current one out much beyond this weekend...
but I do want to second Marshall's emotion that Vulcan is both respected and missed. Well and truly thirded! As for me - 41, married 14 years, 2 kids. Play while good lady watches (insert latest brain-drain TV series here) - that is, when we are not both out at a gig or rock festival (which is actually a very regular occurrence). Never got into arcade machines, always the TBS / RPG type games for me from the early days of the Vic20, onw
On the bright side, I'm about to get a state-of-the-art computer and thus will be able to crank up the graphics and AI options to the max. What's the latest count of habitable planets on gigantic all abundant again? 900+ with DA 1.5X
Had the same thing on my last 1.5x3 game - no reason for it, nothing in the debug.err either. Score was 683K (only had about 1000 ships in total, and no military SBs anywhere - so it shouldn't be related to that). Other numbers were about the same as yours. I think I got one of the racial abilities so high during the course of the game that it tripped some sort of flag - most likely would be miniaturisation because I had about 8 Hyperion Shrinkers by the end. I agree
e-who?
Good news - hope it runs well from now on. For good, reliable & affordable PSUs, Xclio are a good brand. Their 700W modular ultrquiet is available for £65 in the UK (about $130). Ideal for a new PCI-E based PC.
It's been present since early versions of the game, and doesn't just affect research buildings. Definitely affects manufacturing buildings and farms too - not sure about others. Also happens with only one level of upgrade researched. A save / reload sorts it out though (seems that the planetary values are re-calulated on load according to the buildings physically on the planet) , so providing a save game would not help diagnosing the bug.
Most BSODs are hardware related, and if you have done a completely clean install of Windows (not a re-install over the top of the existing OS) then this seems to be the most likely cause. Bad RAM would be the most likely, so the MEMTEST program is a must - and I would suggest leaving it running overnight. Other possibilities are chipset / CPU problems that have been caused by overheating - are all fans working correctly, and do you have enough? also, have you googled the error
No. That can't be it. My computer's only a few years old and its an XP. A few years is a long, long time in the PC world. Your system is woefully short of RAM - you really need 512Mb physical RAM and a 1.5Gb page file. You might get away with small or tiny galaxies - but you still need to increase the page file to at least 1GB. Your video drivers are ancient - and the game will crash regularly if you don't update them (you probably got messages
you know, i'd always thought about that (spiking taxes on non-election weeks), but usually i'm too lazy to actually do it. That's about the only reason I don't do it - all of Wyndstar's and Mumble's work proves that morale buildings are completely useless. I just keep 1 on each 13B planet to keep approval in the green, so that I don't forget to change taxes and end up losing an election. Also supposedly helps the social component of the score - but I do
Doesn't have to be the escape key - any key will do PLEASE , as long as it consistently closes the active window and takes you back to the main view from whatever view you are currently in. Ideally, there would be one key to always take you back to the main view, and one to always go back to the previ
and playing the high diplomacy to just buy up the universe doesn't work anymore either. Oh, it does. In fact, it seems to work better than ever before now, and you don't even need any starting diplomacy bonuses or the super-diplomat ability. Current game at end of year 3 I had 759 planets, AIs had 103 between them - and I hadn't fired a shot in anger, or
Tested in current game only - so not a large data sample Took one planet up to 25B pop with 6 VR Centres on it, tool-tip displayed: Population -90% Taxes -122% (at 79% tax) Native ability +28% (morale ability is +284%, so this confirms the 10% base) Buildings +24% - (6 VRCs + colony = 245%, so further confirmation of 10% base) High PQ +10% Even at 0% tax, this
Just checked, and in DA base morale for a 25B world is 10%, so you would need a morale ability of +1000% to get the +100% native modifer. With extreme luck on resources, you can probably get close to +500%, so with that, and 19% taxes, on a high PQ world as neutral: Base: 10% Taxes: -20 Native +50 Neutral +10 High PQ: +10 Initial colony: +0.5 = 60% approval Each VRC will add the grand total of 4% to that (not that you'd ever be able to build them, becau
From the Wiki Article plus extra data points from both my and Wyndstar's data we get the following table for BaseMorale. I believe this has remained constant throughout all the various DL revs and is still the same in DA. This data is consistent between all three sources of data (Wiki, DL, DA). POP, BaseMorale (Tooltip Display) 1B, 0.99 (-1%) 2B, 0.98 (-2%) 4B, 0.94 (-6%) 5B, 0.91 (-9%) 6B, 0.89 (-11%) 10B, 0.77 (-23%) 11B, 0.72 (-
Oh, and their terms were 'friendly' at max. so no existing alliances or such things You cannot persuade a race to go to war with another race that it is "friendly" towards, as soon as relations reach that level the race disappears from the attack list.
Of course, just saying it's leaking memory doesn't help much . . . is there any particular point at which you notice GalCiv II leaking memory? @Greenreaper - mentioned on a couple of other threads, but from my observations the biggest culprit for the memory leak is the planetary invasion process. Can play for hours without a problem and mem usage stable @ ~600Mb, then embark on a war which involves lots of invasions it steadily increases up to 1.5Gb
