If you're playing Twilight of the Arnor on the latest patch, the Mind Control Center (evil only super project) will flip a planet immediately.
Has that been confirmed, "in the field"? If so, and knowing the way my games usually progress, that would make it even more supremely powerful than before!

Build them & keep them to yourself, the long term gain of having a unique bonus far outweighs their trade value. Even if it was changed to give a continuous "rent", I'd still prefer to have an extra 20% diplomacy bonus, or +1 speed, or +50% pop growth etc when compared to all the AIs.
The bonuses are calculated seperately, not as one combined figure, and rounded down individually. So: 56 base production Moon gives 10%, so 5.6 rounded down to 5 Civ bonus is 65%, so 36.4, rounded to 36 56+5+36 = 97
Except that some numbnuts told Brad who hadn't realized this was the case after three years and so in ToA the MCC will do absolutely nothing. Actually I like to think I'm friends with the particular numbnuts in this case but why in God's name he decided to mess this up is beyond me. Oh i agree with you there Mumble and i even asked that certain numbnuts that exact question..Why? Something to the effect it was too powerful and that it should do what it was built to do...or somethi
Up to 97650 on a TA ZYW now - there is a 100K+ game to be had, I'm sure. :)
Curiously, how many turns does it take you to get to Lasers. It takes me 3 turns to grab Laser II.
Don't go anywhere near them - spend one turn researching military techs (usually on turn 8 or 9, with Spore immediately following it), just to get the basic particle beam weapon. Turn 3 research is New Propulsion / Ion / Impulse 1. Turn 4 Impulse 2, 3, & Warp. Turns 5-7 are yellow techs - I'l let you work out what turns 1 & 2 are :HOT: Actually managed 91
Well, I eventually found a Neilo-esque triple library home planet... :D  :D
I seem to be getting consistent... 4 consectutive scores of 93100, with different bonus tile combinations each time! Also seeing some strange things with research, e.g. Game 1, with total research output at 651, 2 turns to research engines up to Warp 1 from the start point (definitely no anomalies involved) Game 2, with total research output at 670+, 2 turns left me short of Warp 1 by a few points??? Settings were identical and previous research was the same i
To be honest Neilo - I have no idea what is going on. I dream of getting a planet with 3 Precursor Libraries, max I've ever got total research output to is about 1200. The current setup I've been getting the 90K+ games with is 8 points for +2 speed and 2 points in Research, with Technologists - only build research buildings, nothing else, and only on bonus tiles. The only thing I can think of is that you are doing something crazy like holding off building any research buildings
Getting closer... Going to take a big chunk of luck to break 100K though, I think! Got lucky with a 1000bc anomaly on turn 1 on that one - so used the tech cap aswell. Neilo, I suspect you are not getting enough tech output, early enough. I am virtually ignoring the economy now, still rush-buying everything on longest lease, and don't build anything except research buildings.
The biggest disadvantage is that game exploiters (ie: metaverse players) will be severely hampered by their inability to abuse the crap out of tech trading as much.
Well, seeing as we are into sweeping generalisations here... clearly, you are not a "metaverse player" because you use the built in cheat codes to give you an advantage, and therefore cannot submit the cheat-flagged games! Of course, I do not know if that is true - just as you have no idea what settin
Actually this makes perfect sense in TA (as it takes several more turns to research than in DA/DL), only it takes a very bold move to forego the Tech Capital, interesting move!
Yes, it was playing out a few TA ZYWs that gave me the idea to try it in DA without the tech capital. Got it down to having Warp Drive by 8th Feb at the latest now. The extra speed boost that early makes an 8th / 15th April finish much easier. Managed 3 consecutive 90K+ games last
Hmmm, prey tell sire, was it econ, tech or speed that got you over the 90K?
Brought in some of the changes I'd discovered worked well in TA ZYWs. A combination of a change in bonus picks (extra speed, less econ / morale), and research order (I got to Warp Drive by 1st March). Also some ship re-design to accomodate the research changes. Finished on April 15th, and I was fortunate to find a 1000bc anomaly 2 turns from the end, just as my cash had run out and droppe
Think you were getting a bit close to the top score there KP, so I tried a couple of different ideas - first one got me 88,900, 2nd... Should keep you busy for a couple more days ;p
As per our chat in PM about finishing time, i do take the +2 to speed ability plus i upgrade the colony ship and miner to a fast blank hull and a fast constructor. Once in the AI system i build a base (any type, iv'e found no advantage between them) and upgrade the blank to the +1 att spore ship. I do seem to manage the April 8 win quite often and normally with the political cap too.
Interesting... I'm stil not sure what is best, taking the speed and finishing a couple of
But still I'm interesting what is the best score with TA
I think I can lay claim to that one aswell (for now)... Yes, the reduced starting fund affects it a lot - and also bonus tile distribution seems to be a quite a bit less generous. However, this is offset by the availability of the immense map size, and the advantages of certain tech trees. Nice going KP and
Actually on tiny, we are still tied Mag.
Good point! Forgot about that one :HOT: I'm out of the country, in a tent, at a 4-day rock festival for the rest of this week - so let's see what you can get up to by Sunday night...
Also, the current version of TA has at least 2 very exploitable bugs that could have a huge positive impact on score, and the well documented tech inflation bug that effectively cripples all AIs - making it far too easy to beat them into submission. The bottom line is that it just isn't worth it at the moment. The game is in desperate need of an update.
So, I go away for a few days and you change the goalposts ;) I still believe I can claim the best score on a tiny map... ...and just for good measure: Now I'm away from the computer for another week, so plenty of time to set a challenging target KP!
What the frak was the name of that text-only dungeon crawl thing that ran, I think, under TSO (on an IBM 3033 mainframe, or maybe it was the Amdahl)? Adventure Something, Something Adventure, something different?
That would be "Colossal Adventure" (aka "Colossal Cave", "Colossal Cave Adventure", or even just "Adventure") I'd guess. Damned annoying dwarves - all seven of them!
Good job KP :HOT: I'm kind of bogged down in my first ToA immense suicidal at the moment - tech inflation (apparent) bug is slowing things down quite a lot.
10 beam rating is nothing special - that is only 5 plasma weapons and a couple of miniaturization steps. I would normally expect to be producing small hulls with 10 beam attack early into the 2nd year of the game. The Thalan will be much quicker because their tech tree in TotA means they have nothing much to build on their planets early on, so they only need to divide output between (and fund) military and research. With the Terran diplomacy bonuses you should be able to keep t
It's random - can last one turn or a few years. I've had one last for over 6 years in DA (giving me a surplus income of over 1,200,000bc per week in the end), and don't imagine it will be any different in TA. Every turn, the possibility of a random event is evaluated - and if positive it can either be the reversal of an existing condition (i.e. the boom) or a completely different new event (i.e. influence event). Just be thankful it wasn't the economic recession you got for years :)<br/
Well, a lot of progressive / melodic rock and metal gets play-time in our household - try Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Edguy, Rhapsody of Fire, Ayreon, Avantasia, Mostly Autumn, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Royal Hunt, Dragonforce for starters. Also the classic rock and NWOBHM bands from 70's and 80's (and those clearly influenced ny them) still float my boat - try Thunder, Magnum, Maiden, Priest, ACDC, Saxon, Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin etc etc Anything turned up to "11" is good for m
Actually got railroaded into good in my current game - creativity popped Xeno-ethics on the same turn that I researched Diplomatic Relations (think it was), and I couldn't afford to take anything but the default option (Altarians, good). I'm missing the Artificial Slave Center more than anything else, but it appears the Altarians don't get the Good and Evil tech option and "concept of" one that follows - so no temples or empath centres either. One nice side effect is the Paradise Planet
