DA runs SLOW during play too. Its almost like a crash on every explosion You really need to turn off all the extra graphics options to get the game to run successfully on that card (especially the explosions). The Intel, whilst being DirectX9 compatible, doesn't have hardware Transform & lighting capability and the fact that it is also using system memory means it will be slow rendering the effects. The driver is a bit old too, but I don't know
Magnumaniac
That's a fair cop - never noticed that relations modifier before, but just checked on my current game and you are certainly correct. Just shows what I know
Someone please tell me that all these issues have been fixed on DA. OK Mumble, I could happily tell you that they have all been fixed in DA. Only problem there is: I'd be lying - because they haven't. All autopilot bugs are still present and accounted for in DA, exactly as you have described. P.S. there's also a new one that occasionally occurs
If you think that I am wrong, then how do you explain AIs actions? How about the possibility that revealing the map in cheat mode also reveals it to the AI? At suicidal (where the AIs get huge bonuses to sensors) I regularly see colony ships arrive at a planet I took a few turns earlier, not realising it was already occupied. They also build lots of scout ships and I can guarantee I will always see an AI scout ship in a sector before they send
(2) Start of new turn. Have observed an old DL bug where ship creation reports are not shown. Irritating when playing on a gigantic galaxy with large numbers of ship produing planets. End up with transports not being launched etc. Perhaps an auto-launch all built ships feature? Irritating doesn't even begin to describe this one I end up ensuring every p
It works properly in the latest DA version (1.5X3, build .072).
Dimplomacy I doubt that was an intentional typo - but it is very appropriate. Diplomacy itself doesn't affect relations directly as far as I know, but it does mean you get more positive relation effect from gifts / bribes etc. Also, I've wanted to get one race to go to war with another, but on the trade screen when i
How do I raise my influence? 1. Population - the more the merrier 2. Research the influence techs (one of the yellow branches). 3. Build the Restaurant of Eternity - much harder now if you've got the Korx in the game as they start with the pre-req tech. 4. Influence resources (the blue ones) 5. Influence starbases 6. Stock Markets carry a 5% influence bonus as well as the economic bonus If you get really desperate, you can ev
You don't have to subscribe to File Planet's premium services to get access to demos. You do have to create an account there - but it costs nothing.
That's interesting Evil - I've noticed RAM usage go up to 1.5Gb on my system (seems to be linked to the number of invasions I'm doing as it only ever goes up in times of mass genocide). Whilst I don't get any CTDs, I do get problems with it failing to save properly when RAM usage gets that high - with an "out of memory" error. Others over at the Core have experienced this also. I don't suppose you have auto-save enabled, are running in full screen and can tie the CTDs into the same turn
You are showing a 15 game icon, so not sure what the problem is. If it's the games won - there is no 10 game medal as far as I know. It goes 5, 20,50.
like some of the AI player seem to have like 7 worlds by the fifth term Not sure what you mean by "fifth term", but the AI will always jump off to an early lead in the colony rush because they like to rush buy things with their starting cash. This hurts them economically in the long run, depending on the galaxy size and settings etc, but is very effective on small galaxies or those with low habitable planet numbers. I would expect to have 7 plan
Play the game and watch a movie at same time now thanks to the core 2 processor! Can you get the game to process turns if it doesn't have foreground focus, or is that why the 2 monitors are essential? Mmmmm... Shiny!
The Torians are dying in nice vivid new ways and the world has many new colors! Life is good. Torians being obliterated in 1600 * 1200 resolution just helps get you through after a boring day at work. that is one pretty bit of bling you are sporting there Mag Thanks - need to post more so I can see it more. <
I prefer a throne to being thrown. So much so, he said it twice! Life will be better when the Torians are dead - it always is.
I had assumed that military power takes into account the quality of ships and not quantity. Was I mistaken? Yes you were, unfortunately. Just hit F6, go to the timeline tab and select the military graph - unless your rating is significantly higher than theirs, and has been for a few turns, they will not make peace. Just blow them away. It's not just military though - in my last game, I was in my first (and only) war with the Arceans, had comple
The first thing you need to do is double your physical RAM - It's asking a bit much to run Vista bloatware and then a RAM hungry game like GC2 with only 1Gb. At the very least, you need to increase the page file. I have noticed RAM usage increases rapidly if you do a lot of invasions for some reason - probably not getting released properly after the invasion window closes. I usually have to quit and reload after about 60 planets invaded to reduce the RAM usage. Also try running
Obviously, it isn't my hardware or any of my settings, so WTF is going on? What on earth makes you so sure of this? If it is, as you say, a "software" problem - how does it work perfectly on some (most?) peoples PCs? The most likely causes of a 'Memory can not be written' OS error are bad memory or a bad cluster on the hard drive where the pagefile is located. Even a very badly fragmented hard drive can cause the problem if the page file is "au
OK, cheers - still wasn't working for me so that confirmed it was a problem at my end. Sorted now, after deleting cookies and restarting IE.
Anyone else having trouble at "The Core"? Accepts my username & password, but still shows me as a guest.
Another ex-Guardian if I'm not mistaken. Welcome back onto the 'Highway to Hell' bon.
Speed absolutely matters. The quicker you can have high pop/econ/military/research the more points you will get. Anything before ~2227 is very valuable. Anything before 2229 is still pretty valuable. Past that, you can't increase your scores with anywhere near the efficiency of the early years. Also, if you play Gig, Abundant all, you will see a dramatic increase in planets (for DL 460-475)...And thus points. Absolutely - by the end of year 3 (
All you have to remember is that the AIs are the same at Suicidal as they are at crippling / painful. They just get some big bonuses and don't have to worry about economy etc. They still play the same game - just a bit faster Learn how to slow them down, and to use their own abilities against them.
But is endless hours of researching and colonising and little else for maybe a day or two (in a Gig map, with perhaps 4 major races) really what this sort of game is all about? Yes! BOTF has better battle options - allowing 4 different real-time battle strategies in a kind of scissor/rock/paper style. This is a turn based strategy game - not RTS you can see where all y
You don't get enough planets to go broke! That's about the size of it, I think. How many planets do you have at, say, the end of each 3 month period for the first 2 years?
