I'm really liking this (a lot) but given that Brad is looking for a race that scavenges tech rather than flesh, I think you should go back to your original idea of the secondary; or incorporate both ideas into the ship. Primary is the cutter that disables the opponents tech for a while, I like that. It should be random, so sometimes it will disable their engines and they can't thrust for a while, another time one of their weapons stops working. Another time they lose the ability

And you're still not understanding me, so I'm just going to give up at this point :-)
^ Are you saying all Stardock is doing perfect?........
Not at all, but I'm also self-aware enough to know that what I want specifically out of the game is going to be different from what every other individual specifically wants out of the game (and their's are all different from each other too) and at some point we have to accept that what we're going to get is what the developer team specifically want out of the game, w
Yeah, I like that. Makes them a great should-I-or-shouldn't-I because cluing them in on good scavenge sites is valuable, but makes therm stronger (as you said). Plus, you really don't want them to come across juicy precursor artifacts before you do. Obviously you need to be able to ally with them so you can get scavenger ships as well (to improve your own fleet via scrap) but how much/how far will you ever really trust the ships in your own fleet when you know the main scrap civilization is o
That is really insightful. I’ll play around with that.
There was a post a while back where Alverez and I discussed this as well, and had a play in the XML's to slow down the turn rate of the missile - makes it easier for an opponent to dodge at the last second and have the missile miss that way. Still requires some skill, you will still get hit if you run away or you are too slow to accelerate laterally quickly.
You get what a winky smiley means, right? :-) Having said that, it certainly seems that any thread I come across with someone complaining about something, it's either you or you have commented and agreed :-) Just struck me funny, that's all.
Ooh. Thought. SInce we're all about the rock/paper/scissors, and because this is otherwise a fairly weak ship given the weak primary weapon, how about it it's good at scavenging physical projectiles? Like Kavic's suggestion of a ram scoop - energy attacks and so on hit the ship as normal, but physical projectiles can be scavenged if the ship times the scavenge secondary at the right time - this provides a great foil to the Earthling Cruiser which is otherwise still pretty OP -
Cuore - is there any part of SCO so far that you DON'T hate? ;-)
Also, when the ship model is built, it needs to totally look like it's been built out of entirely spare parts and not be sleek or elegant looking. Sticky-outy bits and maybe even bits that are visibly obviously parts of other ships tacked on, etc.
I posted a similar idea to discord, so I'm just going to piggyback on yours rather than create a new one that's very similar. My text was this: > The scavenger race should TOTALLY be a machine race. No lip syncing required because they're machines; there are no machine races currently so that's cool; they scavenge because they need the parts to build up their bodies as well as their ships; gives a good excuse for one of the scavenge fleet bonuses to be extra crew because you b
Here's a video update: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AuBwidOf1nOuif4KNkNCt2-c8oGFOQ
That video does highlight my issue with screen camera centering though. Right at the start of the video there's a fight where there are 4 copies of one ship and the entire action is zoomed way way out because one of them is heaps far away. It's not much fun playing SM when the ships are all teeny tiny like that. It would be OK
If they want to have 3 or more ships on the screen at the same time at some point in the future, then it's going to feel like a very different game if Super Melee and the adventure game have a centered camera and other parts of the game are focused on the player's ship.
They already do, that's my point. Several ships have the ability to create other ships, or summon in other ships, or call Jeff. It's not at all uncommo
Huh. I think the world must be ending / armageddon is upon us. I agree with Kavik. There, I said it. I know - it felt weird to me, too. Centering the camera on the player's ship would solve a lot of issues, I feel. It would make invisible ships actually work (lets face it, they didn't in SC2 because you know exactly where it is) and it would fix issues currently caused since like 20% of the ship roster have the ability to teleport in other ships, meaning that the camer
Melee background needs variety:
Yes yes yes! I mentioned this in another thread, and fully agree with you - I love the pics you included, but I would also like to see the plain black starfield ala SC2.
You fight within a planet system now (think big arena)
Does that mean what I think it hopefully means? That there will not be just a planet to dodge and slingshot around (ala SC2) but actually a star in the middle and all the system's planets around it to weave and dodge around and through? Because if that's the case then it sounds fucking awesome! Also, I was a little unhappy about the idea of an arbitrary fixed
Suggest the purple nebula gets darkened. Everything feels very purple on this screen.
Honestly, this is my biggest comment, and I've said it before both here and on discord. I am not a fan of the purple SM background. I'm hoping that it's just static in the SM beta but that the full game wont always have the dull purple nebula backdrop - never thought I would miss the black starfield of SC2's SM, but I think that l
If you are stuck with a ship slower than the enemy and they are running away, maybe you need a way to swap that ship for another in your arsenal. Hitting the escape key and it takes a while to hyperspace out that ship.
That was exactly how you escaped a fight in the adventure game in SC2. However, I would be against it in SM, because it would lead to a bunch of situations where I have a ship that
Dots are promised to come. They will be rectangles visually though.
Nah, there's a screenshot of the new dots in discord, they're dots, just like the old SC2style, although they seem to have shrunk, so there are more and tinier dots than SC2 would have had (the human cruiser has 42 for example)
You'll be able to make your own Aliens, Ships, Planets, Universes, and Campaigns/Stories for SCO, and then upload them for others to play with etc (through Steam Workshop). One of the reasons the game is taking a bit longer than the original plans (it was originally projected to be released next month at the 25th anniversary of SC2) is so that Stardock can iterate and perfect the designers for those aspects of gameplay.
I loved Starflight. It was actually my first foray into space exploration game. I played the Genesis version and years later tried to play the PC version, but couldn't get into it because the graphic was just sooooooo sooooo dated. Wish Stardock would buy that franchise.
It would probably be cheap too. Hey @frogboy, you know, a Starflight renaissance would make an AWESOME DLC/alternate universe
That is not true, while uncommon today, not so much in history.
It's not even uncommon today. Throughout most of the IT world, CEOs and drivers are often/usually in their 20's these days. Mark Zuckerburg famously said a few years back that he wouldn't hire someone older than that into a senior position because such people were too set in their ways and unable to adapt (ironically, he's in his 30's now).</p

Yeah, I agree. There's little point moaning about it (since Brad has stated that the decision has been made) but losing screenwrap is a real shame IMO, and I'm frankly a little surprised at the assertion that most people found it too confusing/complicated. It's pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I grasped it easily enough in the SC1/SC2 days, and I was a lot younger then than most gamers who pick up SCO will be today. But anyway, it's done.
IMO that's a little bit harsh, dude. AT some point Stardock has (/had) to actually start developing the 3D assets from the concept art. It's done now, and asking them to change it would just mean a whole lot of extra repeated work at this point. Back at that point, only a few people were complaining about her look, so I think it was reasonable for SD to assume everyone else liked her design or was at least ambivalent. It's done now, no point in getting salty I guess. Time to mov
Shit. You took away the ability to update to lifetime while I was asleep. I guess I can't really complain, it's not like we didn't have some warning this was coming. I just haven't been able to afford it yet (money is a bit tight) and now I've lost the chance. Feels bad, man:-(
