Hey Everyone, So I'll apologize for it being rather quiet lately, as we have been very busy focusing on the game. One of the elements of the game I wanted to share with you is that the Star Control Galaxy you are going to fly around is going to be several times larger than the original. Right now we are looking at a Star Control galaxy with thousands of stars and many more than that in planets. The question I wanted to pose to you all is how big is too b
the only aspect they really have in common is the fact they take place in space!
I think that sums up the comparison.
The founder's vault issue has been resolved.
We are looking into the Vault issue.
It's kinda like the whole humanoid vs completely-alien issue. Do you include humanoids, even though intelligent life evolving on a completely different planet would probably not be bipedal with square teeth and hands with fingers? Maybe on a couple races to bring that same familiarity - we KNOW what those teeth are used for, and why that race has thumbs... it's just very, very unlikely. We DO associate square teeth with omnivores,
Some good call outs in your post. [e digicons][/e]
There are no XP requirements in Star Control.
This is just my opinion, it doesn't make me wrong or less valid than anyone else's opinion. Keep that in mind before trying to diatribe on the obvious flaws in my thinking.
+1
Why not just post when you get to them? SD reads every thing every time. [e digicons][/e]
I do. I really do. I'll see what we can do about that. But to give you a general heads up, if you check the vault every 30 days or so you should get every update. Also don't worry about posting thoughts you have about a topic even if a lot of others have already posted about it. While I do
That tells me that the combat isn't being tailored to top-down view first and foremost.
The game is not being tailored to top-down view first and foremost and there has never been any promises that it would be. Even SC2 tried to fake depth perspective in multiple views. The game's combat is being tailored to what is going to make it fun to play.
i feel most of these "modernisations" are taking the game too far away from the SC roots.
The question to ask yourself is it the specific mechanics, or the experience that made Star Control the game you love. I'd wager to say it was the experience you had playing it. While there are memorable mechanics you remember from that experience they aren't the driving thing that made you love it. There have been plenty
This very much like a 3rd Person over the shoulder view in an FPS game, it sounds great on paper but nobody actually wants to play that way.
Gears of War sales disagree with you heavily.
Here's your top - down gravity representation ANIMATED even, Andrew. I don't see any issues with learning to feel it from top - down view. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im9PuBdIjMY The problem with ISO is the vertical:horizontal visual:actual distance discrepancy. Add perspective to it, add ships motion and gravity and I don't see how a player can aim
My general comment in this area is that I thought that the lip-syncing was spot on. You guys weren't kidding when you talked about how smooth it would be. But... Question... Will the aliens be voiced? And Will you lip-sync their mouths/communication organs to their dialog? If so, wouldn't that mean that they were speaking English since their words matched up so well with their mouths? Or will th
To quote someone quoting me on the Iso vs Top down camera.
Hey! All of you griping over the 3D Isometric combat... Remember this? Quoting Vaelzad, reply 1 Combat as it is being developed right now is being done as both 2D and 3D iso. What I mean by this is you have some camera control a
Hey Everyone, I know there is lot of conversation going on (and incoming) about all the things we released in the February 2016 update. I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about the different things that we released. In an effort to help focus on the different areas (and keep my sanity when reading all the feedback) I went ahead and created 3 new threads for everyone to go into more detail with their feedback and further discussion on the specific areas. Pleas

Stay tuned for some info coming soon.
The black Ur-quan were from the North, while the green ones were from the South.
In SC2 i found some rainbow planets by exploring, others by paying for the information. In the reboot i will apparently just have to enter a system and look at the planets?
The interesting element of this is that the planet types were color coded in Star Control 2. You could actually know what subset of planet types they were by looking at their color and their position in the solar system. Grante
Is SC a "AAA" title? Or is it a $5M budget indie game?
It's a game that people are going to have a blast playing and will want to keep playing it for decades to come. :)
A clone is usually defined as a copy of a competitive product that has the same or close to the same mechanic features and systems. Typically a clone's design is a copy of a successful design but is not implemented correctly or executed as well, and is released while the competitive product is considered viable in the market. There is typically very little to no iteration or innovation in the systems between the cloned product and the original. This is specifically in mechanics and functi
We will have things happening in the future. Keep an eye on the forums and the website. I do respond to the normal forums as well. I just won't be sharing aspects taht are covered by the NDA in the public areas.
