I'll be interested in visiting the galaxy you create when we release the mod tools for you guys to work with. :) You may be limiting the amount of feedback you are going to get through keeping this here in the founder's area.
I suggest a compromise. Who here has heard of the Ur-quan masters HD mod? Nobody? Hmm I see. Take a look at what they did with the solar systems and planets. Reduced 43% Origin
IMO in SC aliens are more or less free game in terms of exaggerated and stylized visuals, but the environment is less so.
The problem is that if you differentiate the two too much then you have 2 aspects of the game that do not belong and you don't have a cohesive art direction for the game. This is one of the bigger game development challenges that we have, how do we keep the fun of SC consiste

Well the truth is all the $99 founders don't have worry about it because if we do any of that you guys get it for free. :)
Ahh the memories of the games of my youth. :)
Also, can someone tell me, what is this Karma thing?
Karma is a way to judge the quality of the poster, and is only earned from your forum peers. Forums tend to get alot of people who will just post, post, and post, just to drive their #of posts up to feel important. Karma is the solution. The readers can give you Karma to your posts meaning that they approve that the posts you are making are meaningful to the co
I feel a large part of the appeal of the lander was it's simplicity, it was simple, fun and not very time consuming. I hope that is retained.
This statement could not hold more truth for what our goals are with the lander gameplay. :)
The current plan hasn't been finalized but we are trying to do something different than what we did previously in Gal Civ 3. It is one of the reasons we limited the number of $99 founder's editions we were going to sell because it will have a direct impact on the game.
Am I alone in hoping the Tywom don't make it into the game in their current incarnation? It just doesn't seem like an incredibly detailed and beautiful creature like the other, squid-like race *name withheld*.
This makes the Tywom sad. They are just looking for friends.
My oldest son turned 7 this year. I've built a few vintage computers, and one of them I have an original copy of Star Control II (box and everything, including MAP!) that I'm going to introduce him to. I want this game to be of the same calibre of excitement when playing.
Parenting. You're doing it right. :)
We are limiting how many of the special founder's editions where you get to name a planet. We aren't releasing that number right now. We may do another founder's invite in the future but that invite will be different and not as special as the one you all joined.
I distinctly remember having a friend over one day while I was playing UQM, and I started freaking out when I found a treasure world. "Dude, why are you hyperventilating?" "YOU DON'T GET IT! It's beautiful...absolutely beautiful. *tear* Hold on. Gimme a minute. Okay, I'm good. This, my friend, is going to tide me over for the next 5 months of in-game time." "Huh. That fire looked dangerous." <br
I don't think annotation and marking visited planets are mutually exclusive... the use case I'm thinking of is if you found a planet with great resources but didn't yet have the technology to harvest/survive on the surface, so you'd want to make a note for yourself. I will confirm that we aren't doing a kill everyone in the universe ending.
Hey, developers! Is it possible to reveal some basic info on aliens in New SC? How many aliens do you plan to implement? Will players be able to inroduce their own alien races via mods (with, say, static 2d models and backrounds and/or in 3d)? What about custom made voiceovers? Last but not least, why no humanoid aliens??? + anything else you feel like sharing at the moment [e digicons]:)[/e]
Hmmm... well, some will like to be hugged and othe
One of the missing pieces to this discussion is the lander gameplay. The two are linked together, I'm not going to go into detail too much about it just yet. Just want to say seeing all your guy's feedback is great. [e digicons][/e]
Hmm... Maybe my judgement was clouded by the thought of further combat being pointless after you capped out on RUs (bought everything you wanted).
Yes, you bring up one of the "game economic" issues that existed with SC2. You could reach a power level where nothing could stop you and the game economics would essentially be shut down. The economic cycle that existed towards the end-game turned very "un-
Is there a chance of having an extra reward for manually-piloting and winning at combat vs having an arm-chair general win?
Efficiency and you will have a more direct hand in the results.
I can already feel the anxiety of missing a timer and thinking there was a piece of the game I'll never have a chance to discover without loading an old save or starting fresh.
This is something I am making sure we 100% avoid in the game. We are planning on putting in recurring events, (some with a very long timer) but there won't be any event that you have to reload an old save game to accomplish. <
Please add an option to skip combat.
We are planning on doing a spectate mode, where you can be a more arm-chair general in terms of fleet strategy rather than take an active participation if you don't want to.
There also weren't any incentive/rewards at the end of combat. That didn't help the tedium either.
There was actually, if you didn't want to go about farming planets for RU you could get them from Combat. Each victory gave you a RU reward. The probes and the races you were supposed to war with gave you a lot, the races you weren't supposed to war with gave you very little.
Was the selection process random?
Nope, the selection process was not Random. It was based on responses to the survey.
Percursorsors_Tilt you are right on the money. There is a balance between the amount of humor that is being used for which aliens. Not all of them are "funny" as there are some that are pretty serious. You'll see some more of the concepts soon. With regards to the planets they need to fit into the context. I think one of the biggest issues when you arrived in the solar system in SC2 is that you had no idea which planet you should visit. Which planet do y
The real question is... what does he use it for? He must have an interesting ship design.
