The QuasiSpace portal spawner in SC2 was basically a second type of drive that allowed the player to do exactly what you've described. Effective use of QuasiSpace made all the timed quests very easy to complete, sometimes ages before their deadlines.
That is true! I totally forgot about the quasi space portal!!! But that was something you got about halfway through the game (if I remember
I'm not sure I agree with this... Putting the Precursor Bomb together in SC2 could be considered crafting (albeit a very unique case). I think SCR could get away with a minimum amount of required crafting, ie you must build at a heat resistant lander to explore a planet that critical to the storyline. You don't need to do this but you'll have a much better chance of navigating the planet.
&
Over my dead body [e digicons]x_x[/e] . Unless of course they are free. DLCs are just because developers could not finish the game and thought it would be a smart idea to sell those parts as DLCs. So you plan in making a game with A, B, C, D, E, F, G, but budget and time only allowed for A to D. So you wrap it up and announce E, F, G, as DLCs and charge for it. Depending on what SC: Reboot ends up being would determine what kind of DL
Yes crafting should not be a game advancement method or a sidetrip that ends up being useless. Crafting if any should add to the game. But how can you implement crafting to a game like SC2 without stopping or limiting gameplay because you have to farm (although the planet lander and collecting resources is farming in a sense)? The game should first be designed so that crafting is unnecessary to complete the game. Then it should be added to increase the f
Well going the System Shock 2 way SC2 already had another timed factor and that was the fuel. In the beginning I remember saving the game so that I could measure the mileage and exactly calculate how to best make use of the fuel to reach as many stars as possible. I suppose fuel in itself is already a timed constraint. But perhaps there should be 2 kinds of fuel (or 2 different kinds of warp drives). The normal fuel (or drive). And a superfuel (or superdrive) that allow
Hey its the future! Just install Evernote version 900913 into the Captain's computer and presto! With all the features like autotags, 3D tags, monster tags, and Juffo-wup tags! [e digicons][/e] [e digicons]:hrmph:[/e] Autotags for mission in the map would be nice if you have already discovered the planet/location. No need to make it that much harder to go to a place you have discovered but can't remember because
Yes that is a good idea. Have the timed mode as a hardcore mode to unlock a special bonus! Would give you Karma for that great idea but alas you had to cheat in SC2 !! Sacrilege! You have sinned! No good Karma for you!!!!! [e digicons]:P[/e]
While crafting may add a certain fun side to it the game is mostly for the storyline, atmosphere, mystery, and space combat. Too much crafting would detract from the game. Then again too little crafting would make crafting meaningless. In other words crafting may not be a good fit for SC2 since getting the right balance will be quite hard and we don't want developers wasting time on getting that balance right. Quest based crafting isn't re
But that is the thing. Fred and Paul cannot make another StarControl game because they no longer own the name unless they partner with Stardock to do it. Unless what Stardock has is a license only to produce one game under that name, which we know is not the case. And if Stardock also owns the assets released under Accolade that means that they can bring back the aliens from SC2. Because aliens and artwork are assets (and in a sens
As long as Paul and Fred WILL make a continuation of the timeline and storyline then I am fine with Stardock respecting their wishes. But if that is just a wishy-washy commitment on their part then I do not see why we, the consumers and fans, have to suffer. Stardock owns the rights to the game which should include the content as well. I cannot see how you can own a game or movie but not the contents. Unless their lawyers
However maybe if it fits the storyline it could be possible to have something special on the planet. Or perhaps the equivalent of rainbow planets could be done with some of the founder named planets. But if the galaxy is to be littered with ancient civilizations and ruins then I do not think it will be far fetched to have some cool stuff on the planets.
Agreed, achievements should be more for things that you really have to achieve . Having an achievement for scanning 100 planets? That is something that we do anyway. There is no point in an achievement for something that you have to do anyway. The precursors for achievements were usually things like; finishing under a certain time, find all secrets, meeting all XYZ characters, Map all areas, Kill all monsters. Those are things that are not
Maybe single player, but online there hasn't been a good top down space combat game since Subspace and that was 20 years ago. This genre could be very successful in multiplayer but nobody has ever tried. I think It's better than first person shooters, a lot more fun. It won't work as a mod, because there are no similar games online I think it needs to be part of the initial release to have any real chance of t
Well.... if it is not human.... and is not from earth.... by definition is an alien. The space monster is an alien anyway. Unless maybe you throw Frankenstein's creation into space then maybe its just a space monster. [e digicons]:D[/e]
I hope that we get to see the return of the Neo-Dnyarri in the this sequel! After all it did say it would return!
Don't worry about balance that is why we are here. To make sure the balance is good. [e digicons][/e]
Well what made me believe that it may not be a scam is the fact that I have paid more than that amount in various kickstarter projects (for games). So if I just think of this as another kickstarter project or prepurchase then it doesn't feel like a scam and in fact looks quite in line with the whole prepurchase trend. After all it is a respected company in the game industry making this offer and not some kid in his basement claiming to be the
The Druuge when controlled by AI...
Hello, Wasn't sure if this post should go in the Founders Starbase but considering that only we get to do this I think it is apt. What is the timeframe for planet naming and what are some of the rules? I wouldn't want to miss out if I was busy travelling or something. And I hope that there will be rules in place. When you get a "name-a-thing" kind of perk the game ends up with a lot of weird names that sound OOC.
Wrap-around should remain. If not then all the slow ships will become severely handicapped. You fly in one direction and then you have to change course meaning that you have to decelerate and become an easy pick. There was someone complaining about having wrap-around when using the Arilou but the Arilou ships are not affected by Gravity so they have the advantage to be able to hide right beside the planet without crashing. Although when the ship is stationary it is difficult t
Hello all. Having enemies level up as you do defeats the purpose of obtaining stronger weapons. Encountering different stronger enemies that means you need stronger weapons and defense is perfectly acceptable and logical in any game and so it was for SCII. If we take an example from an RPG I wouldn't want the rat I find in the tutorial level gaining levels as I do. What is the point of me getting to level 100 if the rat in the tutorial level
Having an all female alien race is actually not implausible. In fact they be around us already! They would pretty much have developed a symbiotic relationship with humans as the most closely compatible alien race and they reproduce by seducing men, much like succubus. Actually I think an episode of "Supernatural" had "amazons" which had to mate with males and then kill them... hmm kind of like a praying mantis or black widow...
I think we should name it "Star Control III : Rebirth" and hopefully that will delete the Legendary fiasco from history and our memories. Also note that Legend's Star Control is called "Star Control 3" making it distinct from Star control III.
Story telling that begins in the middle of things is called "In medias res" and is a good way to write a story or novel. The backstory and background are usually explained as flashbacks or by some other sort of mechanism and are integrated into the story. A story that begins with "Once upon a time" can be quite boring and then you have all the back story explained and by the time you get to the action well, chances are you won't because you would have stopped re
