Naming Planets

^ We know nothing of it yet. I'd assume there will be some restrictions, so you can't name your planet Duckasick. I can't wait myself to stamp my last name or my home city on one of the new SC planets. How sick would it be to show it off? 

We'll have more news about that when it gets closer. In general, names that could cause problems with copyrights (Star Wars, etc.) wouldn't be accepted.

But again, we'll discuss it more before the naming opens.

I'm talking for no-one obviously, but if they will close this founders program near Christmas, i think it will REALLY start taking form next year!

Personally, I'd like to know if it's just naming a planet or if you also get to choose any of the attributes of the planet.  There's a difference between a planet that some thought went into customizing vs. just randomly naming a planet.  It'd be nice if each of the founders planets had some reason to go there other than just trying to find the random planet you named.

Oooo... Can mine have a cave with a note on the wall that says "Kavik Kang was here..."

Mine would have to have pre-renaissance civilizations on it, with 2 spots of ultra-rare minerals.

I want my planet to have a 1-billion cubit tall statue of myself.

Random inane things on planets may confuse players, rather than add to the experience, especially if there's gonna be a few hundred (one for every founder).  I wouldn't mind selected the attributes of my planet, from pre-defined enumerated lists for things like size, atmosphere, temperature, element abundance, etc.

if there's already going to be tons of planets to explore with tons of weird and surprising stuff (and i certainly hope there is!) then i think it would be fun to have some control (like "I'd like it to be populated with the dumbest looking creature" or "can it be a gas giant?") etc

I was kidding, I expect we just get to give them a name for a planet.

I don't expect more than just giving it a name, I'm just saying it'd be pretty cool if we could personalize it in some way, even as simple as choosing what kind of planet it is.

It'll probably be similar to how GalCiv3 worked

I want my planet to be littered with Tzo Crystals and Whackin' Bushes!

However maybe if it fits the storyline it could be possible to have something special on the planet.

Or perhaps the equivalent of rainbow planets could be done with some of the founder named planets.

But if the galaxy is to be littered with ancient civilizations and ruins then I do not think it will be far fetched to have some cool stuff on the planets.

how did it work in gal civ 3?

The current plan hasn't been finalized but we are trying to do something different than what we did previously in Gal Civ 3.  

It is one of the reasons we limited the number of $99 founder's editions we were going to sell because it will have a direct impact on the game.

The naming could also have a side/friendly contest, where the developers favorites (or random picks) could be given to a Rainbow World.

Agreed!  I would love to name a planet, and to ask nicely that it be a radioactive or highly volcanic world. It would reflect my glowing personality! 

Naming a planet is well, AWSOME!!! I think we should be able to plant a obscure message somewhere on the planet for fun. A Easter egg as you will.
