I hope Paul and Fred Ford win this battle. Star Control Origins had a junky story. It's a pale shadow to the glory that was SC2 in terms of storytelling, intricacy, and depth. Stardock had 25 years of game development, experience, computing and graphical improvements to draw on since SC2 came out and they still couldn't put out a game that matches up much less improves on the original. Doesn't matter how much Brad and his people were fans of the original game. They just don't got the juju. Th
Hey Brad, how will this affect the update you gave in the founders starbase in regards to future Origins games? Sounds like those plans are axed unless this issue gets resolved. Just want to confirm if that's the case.
I'm more than happy to keep supporting you guys by buying season passes etc as long as there's an indication that you guys are looking to bring in more writing talent to help elevate the quality of storytelling in the game. But if Chris Bucholz continues to be the lead writer and it's pretty much his show to run in that aspect then I will probably refrain from putting any more dollars into the franchise until I see a lot of positive reviews in regards to the story. And again, if it's an issue
I made it clear in my post that the price was irrelevant and I was willing to pay northwards of a couple hundred dollars for a game that can deliver on a quality narrative and a well-fleshed out universe of lore. My question is not whether it will reach that level for $60, and more whether the leadership at Stardock has the ability to deliver a quality narrative at ANY price. The elephant in the room here is that quite frankly Stardock doesn't have a track record of putting o
Probably the easiest illustration of just how stark the difference is in terms of characterization and cultural development is to look at the wiki page explaining the races in the game: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Control_races Just look at how long the descriptions for the SC2 aliens take compared to SC:O. L
Planet Landing : Get rid of the 3-D terrain. Tedious, not at all fun, and just makes cruising for minerals take minutes rather than seconds. And that makes the resource collection part of the game take 70-80% of the total playtime rather than the 20-30% it should. Seriously, time yourselves on how much time is spent crawling through a solar system collecting minerals and how much is spent in meaningful interactions with alien civilizations. It is a major problem.</p
I agree with pretty much all points here. Brad seems to have decided that the way to go with the game was quantity over quality. It is the same approach Bethesda takes to their games where there is a HUGE open-world sandbox for people to play in, but the thing about a sandbox is it's boring as hell because it's just a bigger box of SAND. Fallout used to be a magical game when it was lovingly written by a team that genuinely understood the magic of the world they'd created. Fallout 3 and onwar
I think SC:O would actually make a very good console port. I have to be honest though and say that the story felt a lot shorter than Star Control 2. It also felt a lot more static. Each alien faction had basically like a 2 or 3 step quest chain and that was it. There weren't really very compelling narratives and a lot of quests just dead-ended. Like bring us hyperdrives and 100 francium. OK I did that and then they said thanks, gave me some RU and that was it. There was not actual expansion o
Yeah, they kind of didn't deliver on that aspect at all. It's a game on rails for the most part.
I agree. I think the planet lander portion of the game is tedious. The 3D aspect doesn't make it better. It actually makes it 10x worse by making the process take that much longer. There is nothing fun about running into trees and falling into pits with a stupid lander. And the sheer amount of the playtime taken up by such a boring activity really killed the momentum. And to be honest, SC:O's story was pretty damn shallow once you realize there is only a few hours worth of plot after all the
So I got a few random ships from planetary explorations and used them in combat. Thought they were really fun but for some reason now can't figure out how to get them more crew. One of the ships I got through giving a fuel compressor to an alien and that ship can't get more crew either. Any help? Also wth can I sell biomass! lol thanks guys. P.S. Game is so fun. Thank you so much Stardock for making this a reality.
Is chapter 1 the only access we're going to get pre-launch? I was expecting more access for being such an early backer without the requirement of needing to hang out in the discord channel.
I liked SC3 for the record! Green mycon was fun. So was colonization.
Should this area just be reserved for Brad's responses or are we supposed to put our feedback here now too? I think it makes more sense to leave it for Brad's responses and our responses to his feedback no? And also, thanks for the feedback Brad. Makes a lot of sense now. Look forward to seeing the game continue to evolve.
Oh also, it would be good to have a screen UI that includes the ability to see my ship/escort fleet while moving around the solar system too. Similar to the one SC2 had.
1. Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0.16299, Build 16299) 2. 16GB RAM 3. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 4. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz Really excited to be playing a Star Control game. I feel the opening of the game could have been a bit different though. The sequence of finding crash-landed Tywom on a planet and then a Scryve probe showing up was just too eerily similar to SC2 with the Spathi hiding on the moon etc and then an Ur Quan probe show up f
Iam interested as well. Thank you!
Yeah agree with Hunam..
I vote for MYCON all the way! They were around for a really long time as terraforming tools of the Precursors so fits into any early timeline as long as it's not before the precursors. Tons of awesome lore. Their ships are super fun. Mycon have always been one of my favs haha. A bit sad that the zoq-fot-pik trio is getting broken up though. Those guys were hilarious together :(
Planet exploration looks fun! Only thing is the magnesium, steel etc deposits. Is the current graphical representation just a placeholder? Or is that what's intended for the final version? If so, that sort of breaks the immersion to just see a steel ingot/bar swirling in mid-air. Maybe a more fitting representation would be a cluster of crystals cropping up from the ground or a mass of rock with veins of ore streaking the surface of it (sort of like ore nodes in World of Warcraft).
For solar system/planet exploration of gas giants. It's probably way too late at this stage to add it in, but would be pretty cool to instead of have a planet lander, have a gas skimmer type vehicle that flies through gas giant atmospheres and skims for stuff. So a different sort of environment and possibility of plot elements etc in the gas giants would be pretty cool IMO.
Star Control 2 is my all-time favorite game and I am a die-hard fan. But as a businessman who's got a good grasp of not just the law but how good business is done, I am in full agreement with Brad. Paul and Fred's behavior have been downright childish. They have not made a single move to try to come to agreement. Everything they've done so far has been highly provocative. I'm not surprised Stardock took the route they did. I'd do the same thing in their shoes. Stardock offered to sell them at
Wow, the music in the game is freaking awesome. I am totally hyped!!!
OK strange. I set the keybindings for player two using the num keypad. But when I go to pick ships it doesn't let me use the mouse to pick ships for Player 2. It also doesn't allow me to navigate much using the numpad. Not sure what to do... :(
