I don't think piracy will necessarilly kill software developers, but copyright infringement. As some have pointed out, and I think Frogboy has mentioned, DRM actually greatly increases the cost of development more than it saves in lost sales from pirates. DRM also does little to curtail pirates. It becomes more of a right of passage to crack things. I wish we had more data. Generally all we see are the doom and gloom, "Lost 10 Megabucks from pirate

Tridus, I got if off Impulse. I been feeling like a new game lately and I saw advertised that they had the kid'd donation going on so I figured I would try a couple things. I have a feeling many of the old games sold are attempts by dev studios to make a quick buck while feeling no need to invest in support any more.
It's a fail. I got the dll, stuck it in the app folder like it wanted. Then it wanted binkw32, so I got that and stuck it in the app folder like it wanted. Now, I get a solid black window when it tries to find my, "opitmal settings," for the game. I don't seem to be able to skip it either. I don't think it likes me Geforce 460.
It seems most tech people recommend copying it off the CD, but since this is a download product, there's no CD. I also checked the spell force folder and dll. Is this going to wind up being another Warlords III fail?
It finally installed, but then I got, "could not initialize display hardware." I have a good reach beyond minimum spec. Then I also read that you can't map keys unless you use a hex editor. At this point I just uninstalled the game and took it for a loss.
I stook it to D:\SD decompress. I'll see if it works this time.
Okay folks, I've tried downloading Dead Space. I think it succeeded, but when they game tried to install it, I got the Decompression Error message. I changed the extract directory, but still get the same message. I've been trying to figure out how to redownlaod it, but can't seem to mind the method. The Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\Temporary\ DownloadQueue, ExtractedFiles, and PreloadData are all empty. The new extract folder I Have is empty. <p
Can't remember. Was that the Microsoft one? I seem to remember playing a WWII themed one from Microsoft after SP. They used facing, arcs of fire, etc. I thought it was pretty good too. One of the things I really enjoyed about SP was its armor, and damage systems system, and the way they did aircraft. I'm surprised no one has copied the system.
Why not base when a unit moves on dex, level, or speed? Didn't the Steel Panther series do some thing like this (I and II, never played the battalion level one)? I can't quite remember that far back. Or no, what they did was alot action points to each unit. If you saved some you could then have opportunity fire or cover fire. Of course they also has suppression, are damage, and all sorts of goodies. I don't think there has been as good of a tactical combat
The tactical maps aren't really even big enough to have city walls. The combat area is tiny.
You should be concerned. I have had similar thoughts.
Interesting idea. It'd be another tack on and I'm not sure why a sovereign wouldn't have access to the tree too, but I like the idea.
Over all, I've had similar thoughts and wonder why an inn doesn't become part of the empire when your ZoC surrounds it. Couple of things I don't get though is why are there inns in the wilderness to begine with? There are zero cities. There are no roads and I don't even see trails. Any thing not part of your Empire is full of monsters and thieves. Also, thieves and monster groups can destroy our towns willy-nilly if we don't defend them. How would a
I think most of what you suggested actually was intended, as Heavenfall mentioned. I think Brad even alluded to this in a video of his when he was speaking about designing factions.
Did you at least have fun away? Make the wife happy?
Well, going with the current lore: Why is the game set after the cataclysm?
Why'd we start after the cataclysm? Well, from my perspective it's because they follow what 75 percent of D&D or several fantasy games or books do, and this is the clean slate. This allows the hero, this being you - good or bad - to go out and make the world yours. You won't bump into borders or restriction
Well I guess I'll chime a bit here. I think we need to take notice of some points though. First off the book I think is about 1000 years after the Cataclysm. Our games are supposed to take place right after the Cataclysm. I think that's part of the reason one can justify a random map every time and not necessarily the, "Lore Map." Basically the Cataclyms in each person's game tore up the planet radically so a game doesn't have to follow the game map.&nb
I'd appreciate it if no one kicked me for suggesting this, but what if people didn't start with any spellbooks? I am thinking that have of the fun is building and creating your character. So, to that end, during character creation, instead of buying spell books, why not purchase some thing like Magic Affinity or Magic levels? Or, even better, base the max level of spells on what your Wisdom is. It's pretty much useless right now. A base 10 gives what wou
I. Formations and an End to Squads First, I’ll comment on the size of the grid. I don’t know about any one else, but I get tired of seeing my units covering a 225 square foot block. Could they not have made units just mimic or move as a general group while making a grid to match a single, human unit? Currently, the unit looks
So basically all the actors in Elemental are wearing the same costumes and saying the same lines. I wonder what Shakespeare would have thought of that.

Weapons, armor, and spells should have a minimum roll, and the stat modifier should apply to it as well. It's reasonable to always expect to do at least 1/3rd of the weapon's max damage, so say if a club can do 6 max, then your rolls are 2-6. The STR bonus then applies to both the l
I'm going to blame you for my recent thought, but you started it with your terrain thinking. The world of Elemental is supposed to be recovering from a cataclysm. Food is a super scarce resource and supposed to be oh so wanted, though I never seem to have a problem with, especially with the exploration techs. Back to the point though, what about water? It's one of the most basic needs for any living thing. Now sure, they could catch rain, drink from rivers, etc.
I suspect sound assets are coming, but right now I hope the work on getting a solid core of gameplay first. The flashy stuff is nice to have, but I think they have a lot more on their plate so I can wait. Though to more comment on your thinking, I have to agree. I generally have the similar thoughts for every game I play. This especially goes for combat. It's bit ho-hum and we don't even have any flash to distract us.
I say combat in general. For me combat rolls are part of the problem. The rest is combat is boring as all get out. There isn't any give or take, real tactical actions or effects. There's no flanking, withdrawals, or any maneuvering. I was surprised there wasn't any tech in the combat tree for tactics. It's all splat or be splat, round one. Armor doesn't protect or act like armor. I would have thought you'd need to hit a target and then see if yo
On the basis, I like the gist of the ideas, but I fairly despise any thing that is a percentage, or multiplicative factor. I prefer addative effects based off resources, environment, and management.
