Ugh.. enough discussion of intelligence already. Way more boring than coffee discussions Okay, someone's really gonna hate me today. I just revised 8 of my old skins. How long before someone accuses me of just trying to boost my download numbers?
Ruthven
Okay, I think it might've been standard members that got 2 and above, but the about section now says "any rating and above." Maybe that changed. Of course, that about section isn't entirely accurate. It says you have to be a JourneyMan to rate skins, but I'm an Apprentice and can rate them as well.
It's a rating higher higher than 2, I believe. But it seems that such a small percentage of skins have a rating of 1 or 2, that it's not worth it. And if the ratings system is as awful as everyone claims, then is the small bandwith savings worth the trouble? Might a better method be only allow non-members and lowerclass members to see skins submitted within the last X days? Or with a minimum of X number of downloads? Yeah, I know it'll probably never happen. And I get cranky si
I have yet to see anyone defend the ratings system ... so why hasn't it been removed?
Suddenly, I have a craving for a HoHo. And strangely, a flashback to senior lounge in high school ... every morning I'd have a carton of iced tea and a 5-pack of mini chocolate donuts. I wonder why I don't way three times as much as I do now....
feline... Intelligence is intelligence, as far as I'm concerned. It's whether or not it can be quantified that's debatable. If someone takes the SAME IQ test repeatedly, scores would logically go up ... but on properly constructed IQ tests, scores would ideally be consistent. I think you're talking about the difference between intelligence and perceived intelligence. As for your grasp on grammar, I'd have to argue that it's more tenuous than you're claiming. You have a more than adequat
Wow.. rereading what I just wrote, I come across as REALLY pompous and self-important! Oh well... the more intelligent folks will figure it out
feline... Wow, that was quite a lot to say there. I'm not speaking for any one group of people, except, I suppose, for those who recognize misspellings and bad grammar. Obviously, no one appears less intelligent to people who actually ARE less intelligent. My background is diverse enough that I've attended classes or worked alongside people in everything from math to computers to science to linguistics to literature to creative writing. My strengths always tended toward math and compute
Reading this thread from the top down doesn't make much sense either
Loid... aha, the time situation is now clear. Of course, that's only because you said what day and time it was in your post, but the day and time posted correspond to my local time. Therefore hence, I now know you're 16 hours ahead of me... so it's now about twenty after midnight there. Of course, none of that works if I actually look anything up. I guess I could just do it the easy way and hit the "Sydney" button on the clock that's sitting on my desk. That tells me it's twenty after 1
When I use IRC, I'm on EFNet (hey, when I started, that's all there was!) ... I'm aware there's a WC channel, but it's been inactive the last couple of times I've looked.
Loid... I think my point was we're all hopeless coffee devotees here (or several of us, at least), and this thread had a coffee bent to it for a while. And I'm still confused about the time difference, but I've placed my bet on your lottery recommendations. I guess "Glen Eric Reed" will be as close as I come to a nom de plume here, at any rate. On the plus side, any pseudonymous stuff I've done elsewhere remains generally unknown. On the minus side, I can be stalked crazy skin fanatics.
Elfy... I've been holding back from chiming in to give you yet another viewpoint, since I'm in no place to provide answers. But here's what I can say for sure -- no one can provide answers, including any books. About the only thing everyone will agree on is the old cliche "keep the lines of communication open." No one can figure out what's going on between you and Rob except you and Rob. And if it's meant to be, you will figure it out. One thing I will say -- lack of fighting d
You know, I was finally satisfied with being "Glen Eric Reed" and not begging to change to a nickname before I did an action on here. That just looks exceedingly stupid. Suppose that fits me, though!
Okay, Loid... you're being way too clever for me before I've finished my first cup of coffee. Which makes me wonder what happened to the coffee thread running thinly through this.. um, thread (there, see how unclever I am now? ). You're also up way past my bedtime. I think. Isn't it early tomorrow morning there? And if so, can you tell me what tonight's winning lottery numbers are? /me jumps into th
Sorry... for some reason, I was struck particularly amused by that one typo. As far as being SURE what you put, I'm sure you're also sure you put "glad to hear this," and "everyone's bed" in your original post and "millenia" and "immediate" in the last one. (Have I mentioned I make my living as an editor? )
Tummy run on cats? Pretty sure that would squash the cat
Not that bizarre, grayhaze.... This is one of two topics that seems to get brought up often, the other being the skin ratings.
I'm probably about to annoy some people with this. I'm revamping a good many of my old skins. Since I'm working on them at once, they'll get done about the same time, and re-uploaded about the same time. They arguably need the updating, but I'd just as soon not have them pushed to the top of the queue. Unfortunately, not an option.
Actually, I think we're spread out reasonably across the globe here, Loidi ... you're probably getting to sleep while I'm on my way to work, but that might not be the case with others. But that's not important right now. Your trip sounds especially appealing today, given that it was about 19 degrees when I got up (that's about -7 for everyone outside the USA). It's been over a year since I had a "real" vacation <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/mad.gif" border=0 ALIGN="
This thread always seems to linger near death on the weekends. Let's see ... waste time at work reading/replying here with a T1 while I'm getting paid, or waste even more time at home waiting for this to load over a 56K connection. You do the math. Let's see... Cook Islands, South Pacific. That's where they're doing "Survivor" now, right?
Unfortunately, my PocketPC's not upgradeable (Cassiopeia EM-500), and I don't see spending the money JUST to get PPC2002. I do like the concept of PocketBlinds. The main reason I haven't been using that is, to be honest, I haven't figured out how to skin it I know you can supposedly use SkinStudio, but "user friendly" does not exactly describe SkinStudio.
I actually stumbled on that review when I was looking to replace GigaBar. Ends up giving a nice "how-to" that's never been available on the WISBar site itself! I'm just hoping someone picks up WISBar and continues development. (Not sure why the news item I posted about the source code being available never got posted on here...)
My feeling of being outnumbered is based in reality. I guess that was my mistake, since we're clearly not in reality here I should be used to it by now. Most everything I've been involved with in the past 10 years or so is female-heavy, from college to work to leisure time.
Actually, feline, the humor and irony goes further than that. Outside of work, most of my spare time is spent in community theatre. If you're single and male in that crowd, it's just assumed you're gay until proven otherwise. That'd be great if I was, but I'm not. And I've got some specific situations that'd put the irony level into the stratosphere (assuming there's a stratosphere on the chocolate planet), but I'll spare everyone. But as long as I've got some people I can share that ir
