Y'know, I tried sacrificing my first born, and I still haven't had a skin featured. Is there a certain amount of time I should wait before complaining?
Ruthven
Site still seems the same in Netscape 6. And yes, it's slow as ... well, something painstakingly slow in Netscape 4.
Sometimes, you just need to update. And when you screw up a lot, you may need to update several times. It's happened to me, and I don't think it'd be fair to delete the skin just because it's been updated repeatedly (unless we're talking about a daily update kind of a thing). For example, my skin that's the "most downloaded" Dashboard skin. I did the original, updated it to fix some minor errors, then updated it again a few days later to add a landscape version. I was having problems ge
Thanks for the understanding -- it really was an innocent question. You'll know it when my questions aren't innocent And don't sell yourself short, Jafo. You probably hit a larger percentage of good skins with what you've posted ... I post everything I do -- no separating the wheat from the chaff for me (um, replace that with a better cliche, will ya?.. my mind isn't functioning quite right). <b
Just chalk it up to imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. There's very little you can do to prevent it, unfortunately.
Personally, I don't even see ratings for skins (they're on there occasionally, but for a VERY small percentage of skins). I don't have the option to choose to view only skins with a particular rating, nor have I ever seen an option to rate skins. I kinda like it better that way anyway. I have had a problem with seeing my skins in the category before. It's only happened once, and it just sort of mysteriously appeared after a while.
Wow, let this thread go overnight, and by the bottom, I'm a disrespectful, bitter loser. Really, I never meant to complain about the featured skin feature at all -- it was just a curious question. I actually do find it interesting to see what's picked, and I wondered if there were any criteria applied besides "I like this." (And now I know if I want to see more Dashboard skins there, I need to buy Frogboy a PocketPC <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="ab
True, Alex ... but they do go back 2 1/2 months. It just kind of got me thinking as to what criteria are applied, if it's anything more than "hey, I like that one." I also noticed another interesting statistic -- 10% of the PocketBlinds skins have been featured in that time, but only 0.5% of the Dashboard skins. Kinda favors Stardock (hmm.. hope I'm not sounding bitter or anything here.. t
So I come onto WC today, and finally, I see a Dashboard skin featured right at the top. First time I can remember. And I'm pleased, since Dashboard is what got me here in the first place. Then I take a closer look. Looks oddly familiar. Well, that's because it's a skin that was made like six months ago. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the work (generally not my taste, but it's well done for what it is). But why suddenly feature it after six months? Just kind of mak
Bah... you're right, of course, and I should've caught that. /me Extends a laurel, and hardy handshake
Great... now we can turn this thread into an argument about correct grammatical usage!
Somehow, deleting 30-someodd skins and reuploading them doesn't seem like an option. Besides, then I wouldn't have the top-downloaded Dashboard skin anymore So Jafo, if your friends call you Jim, then who exactly calls you Jafo..? My name's Glen Eric Reed ... but my friends tire out too fast to use all
Actually, what surprised me was the one I had rejected yesterday, because it was a modified photograph. May as well remove the other one I submitted that was accepted then! /me wonders if the first photo was so bad that it looked like it was digitally rendered...
Sure, but since this is a database and all, changing the nickname should change it on everything I've already uploaded, so people would eventually catch on, right? It's not like I'm trying to hide or anything.... Oh well ... ironically, this probably makes me more anonymous to the WC folks when I'm NOT doing something here, since this is the only place my full name gets used ... I can live with it
(whoops.. sorry, clicked twice there.. with five minutes between somehow!)
Just for the record, I don't think this thread was ever created to praise Alexandrie's work on the XP skins, or any of her other skins. It was just to congratulate her on the 8000+ downloads in one day. Whether any one individual appreciates the work or not is pointless, and I kind of regret bringing it up in the first place!

Okay, editing e-mail address is now an option under "Edit Account" on here, so that's good; I've got that right. How about an option to change NickName ... it's getting to be a mouthful (er, eyeful) to keep seeing my full name! Am I missing something...?
Certainly an impressive feat, but legenfary? She posted 4 XP-based skins in 2 days -- is it THAT surprising this would cause a flood of downloads? This is not to belittle the accomplishment, and certainly not the work. Alexandrie has a lot of excellent skins on here. I'm just constantly befuddled by the ongoing popularity of XP-based skins ... even when they're of my own creation Okay, I
Just be patient for another week or so and scrape together your loose change (assuming you have quite a bit of loose change, anyway): http://www.pocketmac.net
Actually, I think it might be simpler than you'd imagine. Unless I'm mistaken, Isreal has the only democratically-elected government in the immediate region. And I believe the US was supporting the country since its inception.
You can always check http://www.erienet.net/~circle/links.html for a list of active EFnet servers (though it hasn't been updating as frequently as it used to).
