I agree with not having screenshots in the "just in" and or "newest" section.

Yes, screenshots are important. I have looked through them plenty of times to get some thoughts on a desktop. I also agree that it takes a lot of creativity to put a really good screenshot together. But, I cannot see them belonging in the newest additions.
Now, I did mention that I have looked through the screenshots before. I did not find any by looking in the newest section but rather went right to the screenshots gallery.

Just my added opinion.

Fairry..No, I wasn't referring to you specifically. There have been a slew of uploads lately with unneccessary long names. If you had something on the list it is just coincidence. I waited until my recent upload passed through the system so it didn't appear as if I was only responding for myself. I only used screenshots as an example because they are not supposed to be in the list. There are many more OD icons with long names than screenshots.

I can see your point about the long names, very well!
And I can see why screens shouldn't be in the "Just In" list.

What about if a new list was instituted which listed the latest userpages which were updated?
Since the screens are on the user's page, people could get more exposure; but not just for screens!

Perhaps you didnt specify me by name..but seeing that I checked the past few days screen shots and mine was the only one with a long title...and your topic specified " Screen shots " and no where did it mention Icons or anything else...excuse my " paranoia "

Jafo is the only one that ever considers screen shots to be a part of this site. So how can I really expect the rest of you to think that section has any point or interest when he is the only one that thinks it has a place.

But..its a moot point. I really have lost interest in doing any further shots.

I agree..screenies are great, and I love seeing what people have done with their desktops.

I agree that the "Just In" should be for the actual stuff like icons, rainy's, WB's, walls, etc.

Naming is personal..so could be a bugaboo. Some people even get offended if you shorten their proper name! Me, I could care less, B, Bet, Bebop, boop....I'll answer to them all! So it stands to reason that keeping names of screenies, wb's, rainy's etc. to a certain length doesn't bother me at all.

Jafo is not the only one. Screenshots are just as important as anything else. It makes me very happy to see one of my skins used in a screenshot and anyone that says they really don't care isn't being honest. I always try to comment if a skin of mine is used but the screenshot section fills so fast it is hard to stay on top of things.
I have other issues with the screenshot section like people using it to display walls, not crediting authors..etc. On one screenshot I actually saw some loser put "Thanks to all the........". He couldn't even take a second to finish the sentence. If the person that did that sees this and is offended... Tough shit. I enjoy a browse through the screenshots just as much as any other library. It is the fastest growing library.

There is one in the list right now.

After reading this thread, and watching my skin dissapear behind 60 desktop screenies that took a mouse click to create, I have to agree with Night Train. There isn't a whole lot creative in a screenshot. I'm not saying thier not cool and I'm not saying they don't have a place, but to watch something that took you time and effort to create vanish because joeuser has 40000 wallpapers is crap. Just take them from "just in" and the problems is solved.

There's lots that ain't right about this site....
I am sorry I bought a subscribtion. I get slammed by almost everyone on this funky site of nutz.
My skins sit in moderation for days while I have the pleasure of seeing other's skins released as fast as it is created. (Made on date) Plus I must put links in mine while others use photos from sites that ain't linked. I have never said a negative thing in comments, I have been misconstrued and slammed by some of the freaks on here. Whatever, I wanted someone else to know that this site ain't, isn't, aren't, willn't, right. That being said, go mull it.

I approved several bootskins this morning, bootskins people created... Remember that word, it's kinda important.

The other fourteen waiting to be moderated are going to stay there for someone else. I could not, in all conscience, approve skins which took zero to 'create' (read 'image taken off the net somewhere' for create...). I also have no wish to spend what time I have here chasing images all over the net to check their copyright. I have been here on and off for five hours today already, and its only 1:45 pm.

(moderator hat off) My personal view is the bootkin section has been ruined by endless amounts of ripped images. It's just spam. Thank goodness for the small number of good skins in there created by talented skinners.

Guess I'm just a traditionalist. I believe when you submit something, it should be entirely your own creation. The bootskin and logon sections appear to feature very little original work. Shame. (moderator hat on)

As for Screenshots. It's great to see other people's desktops in action. It gives people an idea of what can be acheived. They should never appear in the 'This Just In' list however, that should be reserved for skins.

I hardly ever go by the just in window since names of skin dont mean nothing or guarantee is something good so I prefer to go to each individual library to see the latest. So if you ask me get rid of the just in window all together...

Apart from all the other complaints/bitching about screenies, etc....I'd like to see titles limited to just 3 short words. More than that is a serious challenge to my short attention span, an' I fergits stuff. Only the other day I fergits that Im a lookin' at a SS, downloads it and fer the life of me cain't figure out why the start menu won't go down

Jokes aside...everyone should have the right to upload appropriate/acceptable material without being flamed for content or title, etc. The question here seems to be more concerned with placement/site allocation of certain items. I'm not a fan of having screenies included in the 'just in list', but they are an integral part of the skinning process/community, that I've gained much from, and they should have a visible and easily accessible section that's independant of the 'new skins' page.

I still believe that Screenshots are integral. Since they are not a "skin", they should not be in the "just in" section, IMO. Even when I "lived there" I was against those who would fill the section in a single day. You took the time to create something that looks really cool, why would you want to change it more often than your underwear? Whether it's screenies, cursors, wallpapers, or windowblinds, the author should limit the title length out of respect for others who may want to share the spotlight for a moment.

This site, as in life, works better if we are all a bit considerate about others.
