IMHO I'd rather not have the screenshots listed in the "Newest" section, only in the left side navigation. But shorter names would be an improvement.

I support your suggestion, and also agree that screenshots shouldn't be in the newest additions list in any case. Screenshoots are not skins, and have no business appearing in that list IMHO...

honest i think screenshots should be hosted on some other site thats just how i feel i rather see actual stardock skins then cheesy screenshots if i wanted somebody to see my desktop i would host it on image shack or photo bucket

I think screenshots have a place here as they are good advertisement for the skins, prorams and authors of them. It's nice to see them in action, so to speak. But I don't think they belong in the "just in" list.

Yes to limit of characters.

As to the newest section...I dunno. To some of the people who take the time to make them and feature the work of the artists here, it may seem unfair. If it were up to me...ha ha....I would

1. limit the characters in the name
2. limit the number of screenshot uploads per day by an individual
3. insist that (at least) names of all the skins used in the screen shot be listed


I have found some cool skins through the screenshots that have been around for a while and such, that I may have missed in the archives. They can be helpful and they do feature the work of a lot of artists.

I totally agree. I also agree with the number of uploads per day. I've seen many times that someone got a really nice skin up and then someone uploads 4 or 5 screenshots or a number of ANYTHING and all of the sudden that person OWNS the "This Just In" space.

Screenshots are an important part of skinning....always have been...always will be.

It's the way to show what is happening/can happen with a skin and/or skinnable proggy.

I do agree, however that 'practical use' would see somewhat fewer uploads per person per day....but there are others who see 'screenshots' as an end, not a means to an end.

All that is needed is that perhaps coding is put inplace that limits a single person's screenshots to just 1 or so...in the 'this just in' section, if at all...

This is the third or fourth thread concerning the just in list posted lately. Every thread gets a few more comments on screenshots. Keep at it Night Train, hopefully it won't take a hundred threads before enough people get onboard. There seems to be enough paths to screenshots for those who are interested not to clutter up the just in list with them.

~~What I don't understand is why when I questioned this months ago about the screen shots being in the "Just in " I was told it was a " glitch " and that someone had made an error. Then the screen shots disappeared from the " Just in " for awhile and resurfaced and has stayed. I do not think they belong in the just in catagory at all. People that look at screen shots will find them. Most dont give a rats ass about that section anyway. A few of us enjoy seeing what others do with certain elements etc. As for screen shot spamming...well...I have commented on that 100 times. Around December 15th..a visitor and a non stardock customer uploaded 12 screen shots in a row. Thats 2 and a half pages of the same person. I never hesitate to tell them that its rude to take up that much space. I cant even upload 1 shot without it taking 3 tries. Thats why I usually only do 1 shot a week or even in 2 weeks. I also delete them after awhile. They're only screen shots..and as I can see...mean little to any of the skinners to see their work being used...but..to each their own...but I do agree they do not belong in the " Just in " list.

And...if you were referring to the title on MY last screen shot...thats the name of the wallpaper. It was the last wallpaper buzzh58 made for me before his puter crashed and he lost everything..so excuse ME for taking up 2 of your precious lines.

Totally.....besides, there's a monthly section in the general section for screenies, and then there's the SS library section....keeeep 'just in' section purely for new skins only.
