Quoting strettonbull,

Yes Sean, they are all on.

Are any of the MS Office apps (the only ones that are failing to show lists, yes?) already pinned to your taskbar?  If so and you unpin them from said taskbar, do then show in the S11 menu?

Any apps pinned to the TB, do they show recent items when right-clicked:

with all of S11 TB options:

I don't have any apps pinned to the taskbar, but if I do pin, say Excel to it, it behaves correctly and shows me my recent files.

It then behaves correctly in the Start11 menu or does the right click of the icon on the TB show the recent correctly?

It shows correctly on the Taskbar, but not correctly on the Start11 menu.

Whether or not the app is pinned to the taskbar, it does not show correctly on Start11.

If you burn and reinstall, does that provide relief?

As a final test, if you - under a new Windows Admin account - do a clean boot, is it still the case (you may need to open a few 1st to build said list)?

sometimes with Chrome, the taskbar glitches and the chrome icon flashes for quite a few seconds:

yes it's the correct item on right-click but hover is sometime two or three to the right with some app icons being blank (skype and MyPhone).

Loom

please find the .dmp file for the Loom error here:

it seems it may not apply for short Loom recordings, but longer than a minute or so repeatedly happen for me.

I noticed that it might not create the recent app if you use search to find the app shortcut and then launch it. But if you manually navigate the menu and launch the app directly, then it appears on the recent apps list.

I've finally managed to solve this. In case it helps anyone else, this is what I did.

1) Uninstall Explorer Patcher.
2) Delete the problem app from the Start11 menu (in my case Microsoft Excel and Word).
3) Disable Start11 menu so that the standard Windows 11 menu is active.
4) Browse to the relevant apps again in the standard Windows 11 menu and "pin to start".
5) The recent files should then be there.

Hope this helps.

Windows 11 21H2, Build 22000.778

Start 11 1.24

Taskbar Resizing Problem

I have Start11 running on three PCs, 1 desktop and 2 laptops, all running the same version of Windows 11 and Start11.

The PC is set to Medium size taskbar, the laptops are set to small size taskbar, fine.

However, whenever they are rebooted all 3 open with the taskbar set to 'Large'.

I can change them using Start11, no problem, but after every reboot they are back to 'Large' taskbars.

What can be done please?

I have a question about memory usage in Start11, ver. 1.24.

My specs:
Windows 11 Pro 21H2, Build 22000.778
HP Laptop, i7-8750H, 32GB RAM
No other thirdparty "explorer" programs than Start11.

The program as such is very nice and offer everything I wish for BUT after 2-3 hours of normal usage, i.e. reading/sending some emails and browsing the web, the Task Manager reports ~700MB of memory usage for process explorer.exe which is also confirmed by Process Explorer. Without Start11, explorer.exe never exceed 60-70MB. The image below from Process Explorer shows the threads in explorer.exe. I assume that the massive injection of 'start10_64.dll' is the cause of the memory footprint.

Is this behaviour really expected and normal? Since I have 32GB of RAM I haven't noticed any slowdowns but it doesn't look so nice if you ask me.

Best regards

/Fredrik

I have only been able to do that on the desktop for the moment, and it seems to have solved the problem.

I will do the same on the laptops tomorrow, and report back.

Align Top Taskbar position is not working on Lenovo Laptop. It works on my desktop fine though.

Uninstalled and re-installed with no joy.

I do not want to edit the registry because I use app grouping and don't know the regedit to make the app selection appear below the bar when top aligned. That's why I bought Start11.

All settings for the start bar and start menu are identical for both Windows and Start11 between my desktop and laptop. For the most part they have the same apps installed as well, with some differences for hardware support. Could another installed app be interfering? What should I look for?

Hi there,

This is a bit of an odd one - but I'm 98% sure it's Start 11 related.

I'm using a Win 11 (21H2, 22000.778) desktop. 32GB RAM, Core i9... quite a powerful and usually rock-solid setup.

I have a Windows Hello-compatible camera. If I'm sitting at my desk, this signs me into Windows at the earliest possible moment during startup. When it signs me in, I can see the system tray populate with the various startup items that run here:

Just lately, after I sign in, and pretty soon in the startup process, the task bar flashes, the screen goes white for a second, the taskbar resets to what I expect it to be (my Start 11 settings) but all the startup items stop loading. All that stuff in the system tray (some of which is important, like OneDrive) doesn't get started and I have to kick it all to life manually.

I'm pretty sure that this is triggered in some way by Start 11 causing the re-draw of the taskbar ... maybe it's re-starting Windows Explorer for some reason...

If I DON'T sign in straight away (that is, if I allow all the startup items to start up in the background while the lock screen of the PC is still showing) then:

  • they all start up just as you see them above
  • I never see the re-draw of the taskbar (and flash of the screen to white).

I can't quite figure out WHERE in Windows Start 11 hides whatever setting it uses to make itself start automatically when Windows starts. It's certainly not in the Startup list in Task Manager. I'd like to find this, so that I can disable Start 11 without having to uninstall it (tried that - everything starts ok) and my old eyes can't spot a switch in the Start 11 app to disable it from starting up. And then maybe I just need to change the order of startups...

Any thoughts/hints appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have 2  large monitors connected to a laptop, so there are 3 screens in total. I would like to apply a Custom Scaling % of 110%.

100% is too small, and 125% is too big. These do seem to work fine with Start11 though.

the laptop screen is smaller than the 2 monitors and not having them all on the same scale gives me bigger problems... So I need a Custom Scale to uniformly apply.

Windows:

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 21H2

Installed on ‎01/‎07/‎2022

OS build 22000.778

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.778.0

Pic of scaling option (in Settings, Display, Scale & layout, Scale, Customised Scaling):

When I apply 110% here, Start11 does not work properly.

Clicking the start button on my left and primary monitor does nothing.

On the middle monitor clicking the start button opens the menu seemingly below and on top of the left monitor's taskbar, and on the laptop (which is the right monitor) the menu opens below and on top of the middle monitor's taskbar.

Can you please advise on how this can be sorted out?

Thanks

Its a service that can be turned on or off:

This reads more like a crash - and if so - can be captured and a link posted here:

We would also like to know if you see this still with Start11 1.25 beta installed:

When opening my Start 11, it glitches out/loads only half sometimes.
I've been experiencing this issue since Start11's release

Expected look:

Expected behavior

"Glitched" look:

This usually happens when opening Start 11 with the Windows-key, when I click the Start button it usually loads/looks fine

I'm running Start11 v1.24 on Windows 11 Pro build 22000.739 currently.  Has anyone else experienced the task bar flickering, blinking, or refreshing when clicking the Start button from time to time?  It doesn't always happen but it's almost as if Start11 refreshes or restarts.  It's similar to if you open the Start11 settings and then close it.  After closing it the taskbar will refresh for a lack of a better term.  It doesn't seem to have any ill effect other than being an annoyance right now.

Question - Using Modern Style Start menu.  If open the start menu, click on shutdown, then restart - the screen goes dark and then just refreshes, nothing happens.  If i want to restart, need to rt/click on the start button and use that menu.  Why?

Windows 11 - Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.778)

Domain environment.  Logged in through domain, not as a local user on the computer.  Administrator on the domain.

I can work around but i will be hesitant on upgrading other computers in our office.
