Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows. In an effort to track what

  • Object Desktop Manager will read that there is an update after you have already done so when there is not.  It will be fixed in the coming days.

Quoting serega_m,

The issue I have reported here - https://forums.stardock.com/512078/page/3/#3852483

is still not resolved in 1.24. Hope you will address it in the future builds.

Are you using an insider build?

Nope, only the release versions of everything, right now my Windows has version 21H2 OS build 22000.675

I'm updating to 1.24 on 2 separate laptops and the process is stalling after the download is complete.
Laptop 1 - Windows 11 Home 21H2 Build 22000.706
Laptop 2 - Windows 10 Home 21H2 Build 19044.1706

On edit: the download process is near-complete: 40.20 MB of 40.24 MB. It sticks there.

I downloaded Start11_Setup_sd.exe from My Downloads on the site, and that seemed to install fine. It's just the direct update from the configuration window (About) that failed for me.

That would be the workaround, to get it from an account page or directly from this link:

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for the heads up.

Right clicking the Start icon crashes the app. Ideally this function should be mapped to this dialog from older Windows':

In 1.24 taskbar becomes lagging/unresponsive for a second in dual monitor setup with extend mode.

The lagging/unresponsive issue occurs when moving any taskbar icon to reorder it, or when starting any app as Administrator using taskbar icon.

When it becomes unresponsive, it doesn't seem to respond to any mouse input for a second.

This seems to have already occurred in 1.22 as well.

I cannot reproduce that on a Win10 box:

Can you post a screenshot of your winver.exe?

If the crash is on a released version of Windows and it still happening, we would really like a full crash dump of it.  Directions can be found here:

Thanks for the feedback, furomin.

Right-click on Start icon is working fine on both my Win 10 and Win 11 laptops.

And thank you Sean for addressing the installation issue.

Start11 version: 1.24
Windows 11 PRO -  Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000
Monitors: 4
Features used: Taskbar align top and small (everything else is disabled)

Just updated to latest start11 and now Align Top is no longer working, both primary and secondary monitors are set to Align Top taskbar, but they are all only visible on the bottom..

I have restarted explorer several times while toggling back and fourth to see if that would help, I have also restarted the computer in hopes that would help but to no avail.

note, restarting after updating Start11, the primary was still aligned top, but secondary monitors were not.. I then toggled then all align bottom, restarted explorer, then align top, and they all stuck to the bottom after this.

Kind regards
Niels

Update)
The good 'ol registry hack where you change the hex from 03 to 01 seems to still work for now, so this will do along with the small taskbar option in Start11 until a fix is released in start11 :)

And thank you Sean for addressing the installation issue.

Since I am the one that broke it, it seemed only fair 😉

My bad. Seems like it was a problem with another software I had installed. Now it works fine! Sorry!

I've run into a couple minor issues when doing a search in the Start11 v1.24 Windows 10 style or Windows 11 style start menu. These don't occur with the regular start menu (Start11's start menu turned off).

1) On my Windows 11 laptop only, after clicking the Start button, and typing the characters of my search, the cursor doesn't catch up with the end of the text I'm typing. It lags further and further behind. I'll be happy to make a movie of this if that would help visualize what I'm seeing.

2) On both Win 10 and Win 11, searching for components of the Windows Security app doesn't find them. Try searching for "Reputation-based protection" or "Exploit protection". You can search on "security" to find the whole Windows Security app, though.

Issue: when running Start11 (in Win10 mode), a windows file_explorer window is open, and I double-click a file I associated with notepad++(v8.3.3) (e.g., sii, sui, cfg, dat)**, the file_explorer window closes shortly after notepad++ opens the file.

When I uninstall Start11, this unwanted behavior ceases; when I reinstall Start11, it happens again. This started happening after the 1.24 update. notepad++ seems to be the only software** affected; and it happens frequently but not always. It (window closes) does not happen when double clicking on pfd, xls, firefox, zmodeler, potplayer, IrfanView, etc.

Hello,

Since the last version, the tiles background has disappeared and is seen only when hovered with the mouse.

How can I get back my tiles background squares?

Thank you

Patrick

With the update to the stable 1.24 came with me again this strange bug, please see screenshot. With the version 1.23 j190 the bug was not there. It always occurs with some versions, I think it is already known. When I move the mouse over it is back to normal for a while.

I don't use any other apps that edit anything. Currently I am on Win11 21H2 22000.675
