Is it just me again or is the "Restart and Update" function not working? Last few times I had to restart and update via the Updates settings page...
Any updates on this?

How exactly is it 'not working' - when you click it, nothing happens?

Sean Drohan

It's restarting but without installing the updates.

Quoting furomin,

Bug: Start Menu does not update upon installing an app. It only updates if I go to "Start Menu" -> "Configuration" -> "Advanced Configuration" and disable/re-enable "show recently added apps".

Can you provide a video of this?

Sean Drohan
Stardock Support Manager

Idk, it looks like sometimes it's updating and sometimes not...

Are the apps store ones or third party installers?

Bug - Start11 is not creating jump lists for recently used files. This is a major inconvenience for me.

It is creating them in the Windows 11 menu.

Which app?

I ask as the shortcut is the most important thing and sometimes you will have multiple shortcuts which launch the same thing but do not show the same jumplist.  How did you make the shortcut for the app?

Does the shutdown option show the and install updates text?

I.e. do you have install and do not install updates shutdown options in the menu?

Also, when adding a shortcut with custom icon to the Startmenu the icon is not displayed. May sound like a minor bug but looks kind of ugly...

Which menu style and where are you adding the shortcut in the menu? (Pinned items, quick access)?

Pinned items should show shortcut icons just fine and I don't think we have had any reports suggesting otherwise so far.

A screenshot may help a lot here.

I believe there is a bug within Start11 app when you also use Auto Hide Taskbar settings

The taskbar does AutoHide, but when you Maximize the window your in, it doesn’t go all the way to the bottom of the screen. The window behaves as if the taskbar is still there even though it's hidden.

You can see in my screenshot the Google webpage won’t go to the bottom where the taskbar normally is even though I maximized the browser. I even tried to drag the browser window manually, but it just snaps right back to how it looks in the screenshot.

Curious if there is a fix for this

Thanks!

Which version of Windows 11 are you using and did you sign out after enabling autohide?

Microsoft Office 2016. I have tried pinning the actual executable to Start11 and also pinning a newly created shortcut from my desktop to Start11, with the same result.

If I pin to the taskbar from Start11, the recent files are then there.

is there a way to move the taskbar (without changing the primary monitor?) I like to keep my middle monitor as the primary (so games naturally open on it[yes im aware some games allow you to specify monitors]) and keep my taskbar on one of my side monitors?
would it be a regedit or sorts? or a setting I completely missed?

I'll have to be a "me too" on the issue of taskbar showing the wrong apps when you hover over the button (current version and at least the previous one).

I have Start11 installed on three machines.

It occurs on a machine with one monitor (most of the time, occasionally switch to expand to include TV)

On my machine with three monitors (work) the taskbar will become 90% unresponsive eventually.

In both case I can go to taskbar>right click>configure start11>taskbar > Restart Explorer to reset it to working (for a while).

Third machine is a laptop that I don't use often enough to tell if there's an issue.

I ended up simply turning off Taskbar enhancements in Start11. I really got it for the actual Start Menu anyway (which works fine (no idea what MS was thinking with the Win11 menu)). Though I do like the "sometimes combined" settings when it works.

If you right click on the apps when this happens do you get the correct right click menu from the taskbar?

I would also like to join in the report re: mouse hover showing wrong windows for icons issue (it has been an issue with all the Start11 versions I've been using). Usually the hover shows the windows for the button immediately adjacent to it on the right, but sometimes it ends up being two buttons to the right, e.g.

Clicking on the button itself shows the expected application (if there is just the one window), and clicking on the windows that show up on the hover also bring focus to the "correct" window (i.e. what you see is what you get).

When recording a video using Loom ( Loom.com ), when you finish recording, the taskbar and explorer crashes and resets. All currently open folders close. This happens on both of my devices.

What shows when you right click on the app taskbar button when this issue is happening?

The right app or the wrong one too?

I notice you seem to have your taskbar buttons in combine mode.  Is the taskbar full which is why it is in this mode or do you have it set to always combine mode always?

Right click correspondence is correct: right clicking on the icon shows the context menu for the icon as shown, and right clicking on the hover windows also shows the context menu for the windows.

And yes, the taskbar is set to always combine icons.

That being said, I have a feeling that Modern apps (i.e. things like Settings and Microsoft Store apps) seem to be a causative factor - sometimes clicking on their taskbar icons does not bring them to focus even if they have active windows, and their presence/absence from the taskbar might be related to the icon/hover offset.

In fact, right now I have icons to the left of where the Settings app icon used to be when it was open where the icon/hover correspondence is correct, but to the right of that they are either off by 1 or 2.

I wasn't able to reproduce this here unfortunately.

Are you able to use the collecting crashdump instructions here to collect a dmp file so we can investigate further?

Just to share, I've had issues with recently used app list not working correctly or search not finding new / installed apps. Disabling and re-enabling tracking app launches seems to have fixed the issue for now.

Go to Settings -> Privacy & security -> General -> Let Windows improve Start and search results by tracking app launches. Turn it off and then on. It'll repopulate the recent apps list and now new shortcuts are being discovered by search when I begin to type app name.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I am still not getting jump lists for recently used files.

Yes Sean, they are all on.

Are any of the MS Office apps (the only ones that are failing to show lists, yes?) already pinned to your taskbar?  If so and you unpin them from said taskbar, do then show in the S11 menu?

Any apps pinned to the TB, do they show recent items when right-clicked:

with all of S11 TB options:
