SMURF DIRECTORY - Who's Who of Smurfs

This has been batted around for sometime, but the actual implementation of such has been compromised or stalled out altogether.  The idea here is simple; a collection of a smurf directory that will report instances of alternate player names for established or "known" players.  This will necessarily be comprised of accounts reported by and confirmed via substantiated corroboration from the multiplayer community at large.

The categories will be documented as follows:

  • Player in Question - This category will include known player names that are in question of playing under assumed "Smurf" names.
  • Smurf(s) - Includes assumed player names suspected at one time or the other to actually be the "Player in Question" but have yet been determined to be alternate, smurfs, or noobs respectively. 
  • Classification - Classification as such will be submitted from the multiplayer community, and will change according to the status as either:
    1. "Alternate(s)" - Acknowledged by the "known" player as an "alternate" player name.
    2. "Smurf(s)" - Suspected smurf(s), but with no acknowledgement, denials, or requests for retraction.
    3. "Noob" - Genuine new player (this classification may change obviously as player becomes known).
  • Status - Either acknowledged individually by the "known" player, or confirmed as "Common Knowledge" by the multiplayer community as a whole; uncovered or discovered by virtue of circumstances reported in the documenting post. This category can be disputed and potentially corrected by anyone in a post declaring such, and will be duly noted. 
  1. "Confirmed" - by the player in question or community at large, or 
  2. "Denied" - by player in question, or
  3. "NARY" - (No Actual Report Yet) - Submitted, but lacking corroboration for assigned status.

Should any player name need to be reclassified, they will be moved to the appropriate category upon verification via consensus.  Please provide all information relative to the purported circumstances.  Since this is a moving target of "I cannot confirm or deny" type statements unless confirmed, please speak up if you have input.  Of course smurfs can reserve the right to ignore and dismiss this directory, but at a minimum, it will serve as a repository of historical smurf accountings.

The problem is that any smurf that's been played long enough for us to identify it as a smurf probably has a somewhat established record with at least 20 or so games.  The real problems are smurfs with less than 10 games.  You can get lucky (especially as fat kid riding on a team of good picks) and get a good win % with little to no skill there, or you could be a smurf.  We don't know, and too few players have actually gamed with the guy to vouche one way or another.

Potentially, this will motivate the host of a game to start "culling" questionable smurfs?

i mean like, im not trying to be rude but i am surprised people smurf in this game, or even play this game online. who cares? i guess well im like wow there people who are competitive about this game? is there a 1v1 ladder?

No 1v1 ladder, but we all know who the top players are. Plus its just so much more fun than playing Ai. Anyway, Proto, good idea but this list will be tough to keep up with, so good luck with that.

Wonder y u  still trying. U cant win. People will smurf untill devs wont change it.

There r several ways of fixing it but it looks like devs dont want to change current state.

So this treat is pointless as i dont even remeber half of my smurfs.

 

And i heard even Z00MERS promised to never ever kick a smurf out of his game again:) Is very nice of him. a noble guester Z00M. :D

Unlike Sunny who betrayed a smurf race and started to kick smurf  :( trecherous Brit :P

The reason for playing the game online is because playing the AI does not in any way compare to playing against human opponents.  Games against human opponents are much more challenging, suspenseful, intense, and fulfilling.  In contrast, games against the AI can become predictable and repetitive.  Playing against human opponents also introduces many new strategic elements, especially in team games, that you just won't get from playing with the AI.  That is why people put up with the smurfing, the minidumps, the desyncs, and occassional bad attitudes.

lol sorry quar, but the last 4 games out of 10 I had last week involved smurfs playing the game, his team losing then him either going afk or building starbases all aorund his worlds and then going afk. 2 hours games turned to 3 hour games, and I werent happy. :(

and by the way, how do you know i betrayed the smurf rebellion?, I am undercover, as a secret agent for his majesties BlackHawk, and working with MI5 to bring down a known Terrorist group called [DT] - [DICK TERRORISTS], until they have been brought down to justice, the universe will never be safe. :)

Zoomers just yesterday was kicking smurfs FYI.  He was also intending to send a message to blair to try to get something done.  A list is fine but the benefit is limited since they will just make a new name if they still want to accomplish their point in smurfing to begin with.  It will require developer intervention to eliminate or reduce smurfing.  There are just too many smurfs/liars out there to expect to gain much ground with community oriented solutions unfortunately.

You can gain ground if the entire community decides to fix it. With less and less people smurfing those who do smurf tend to stick out. There is no way 100% measure to stop smurfing. But the online community can foster a better online community. Right now its brutal in a bad way.

 

Really all it takes is for online players to step up and be accountable. And simply stop smurfing!

I don't deny smurfing is bad for the community.  I do not do it myself.  The problem is getting the community to agree that its a bad thing when probably a good half if not more of the community smurfs.  It doesn't help the skilled booting noobs problem either and in fact makes it worse.  I had hoped that with diplomacy that multiplayer would get some love in that respect(along with a ratings system/ladder and ICO stability) but such was not the case.  I guess I can dream on and hope the devs do something about it.
