This has been batted around for sometime, but the actual implementation of such has been compromised or stalled out altogether.  The idea here is simple; a collection of a smurf directory that will report instances of alternate player names for established or "known" players.  This will necessarily be comprised of accounts reported by and confirmed via substantiated corroboration from the multiplayer community at large.

The categories will be documented as follows:

  • Player in Question - This category will include known player names that are in question of playing under assumed "Smurf" names.
  • Smurf(s) - Includes assumed player names suspected at one time or the other to actually be the "Player in Question" but have yet been determined to be alternate, smurfs, or noobs respectively. 
  • Classification - Classification as such will be submitted from the multiplayer community, and will change according to the status as either:
    1. "Alternate(s)" - Acknowledged by the "known" player as an "alternate" player name.
    2. "Smurf(s)" - Suspected smurf(s), but with no acknowledgement, denials, or requests for retraction.
    3. "Noob" - Genuine new player (this classification may change obviously as player becomes known).
  • Status - Either acknowledged individually by the "known" player, or confirmed as "Common Knowledge" by the multiplayer community as a whole; uncovered or discovered by virtue of circumstances reported in the documenting post. This category can be disputed and potentially corrected by anyone in a post declaring such, and will be duly noted. 
  1. "Confirmed" - by the player in question or community at large, or 
  2. "Denied" - by player in question, or
  3. "NARY" - (No Actual Report Yet) - Submitted, but lacking corroboration for assigned status.

Should any player name need to be reclassified, they will be moved to the appropriate category upon verification via consensus.  Please provide all information relative to the purported circumstances.  Since this is a moving target of "I cannot confirm or deny" type statements unless confirmed, please speak up if you have input.  Of course smurfs can reserve the right to ignore and dismiss this directory, but at a minimum, it will serve as a repository of historical smurf accountings.

Damage is not as good as JJ. So unless JJ plays as damage when he wants to play the game with his toes, I dont think its a JJ smurf.

I did hear once that TuTu was n1m. Not sure if thats true.

N1M = TuTu, at least that is the name he was using before Christmas.  I'm taking another extended break from online play so he may of changed since then.

"Denied" reflects that Blackhawk141 has "Denied" f-35 Lightning as an alternate player or smurf of his.

quar, i have always kept those smurfs you named above in my games, but quar you need to understand, i like smurfs, and have no problem with them, but when people smurf and go afk, or make us chase there cap ships around for 2hrs longer when the game should have ended, aint fun. Thats the reason i was mad last week becuase of that.

 

and protoplazm, i am already getting idiots calling me f-35 in game, and there accusing me of giving them bad language etc. please take it off, it aint fun being up there for a smurf which aint mine.

I think it's pretty simple based on what's available.  Ironclad games provides the server interface but when you host a world it's your server (virtually speaking anyway)--you are the admin and moderator.

If you can establish your own game server with an atmosphere, style and reputation for play of a specific type then you will attract those sorts of players.  As a new player what is missing for me is a "server directory"--that being players who regularly host games and are looking for like minded players.  Right now it is a different game everytime I come on run by different people with different players on it each time and I know little or nothing about all of them.

Would be a good addition to the forum, a "host list" with a description of who runs it, regular hours, mods or game types run, and in-house rules and expectations and maybe even it's own member's list.  Just a thought.  As a new player, everyone here is a stranger to me--the first place I would go would be the "yellow pages"--if they existed--to find a place I would like.  Would also help custom mod hosts promote quite a bit too I would think.

A whitelist rather than just a blacklist--and uberpawnage players could promote their styles there too.  It might even increase player numbers online in the long run.  Freelancer is long gone as a formally hosted game yet some enterprising players got together and maintain a universal server list.  People still play it even though the game ended years ago.

As a new player, Welcome! And yes, Imperium, it's pretty simple yet it's not easy to foster accountability.  But this by no means is a "blacklist".  This is just one effort to hopefully become a resource that documents "known" players "alternate" identities so hosts should be able to dictate the level of "smurf tolerance" in their games nonetheless.

If he is JJ, it's his alter-ego.  Greek Geek was swearing like a sailor last night at Dead Rat for holding up a game after it had been decided.  Rat was the last of 5 on a losing side and refused to quit becuase he wanted to play it out.  His reasoning was that he didn't want to wait around a long time for another game to start, so he just wanted to keep playing the game he had going. Greek layed into him with an expletive barage, and eventually challenged him to a 1v1.  Never heard JJ be anything but civil and this definately was not that.

There are Missile Barrages and then there are Expletive Barrages.  A couple Expletive Barrages were fired in Dead Rat's direction last night and he fired some back.

I don't know whether or not Greek Geek is JJ, but JJ's gotta be out there, somewhere.  (As for Greek Geek, if you're really not JJ, prepare to be the #1 draft pick until this rumor is dispelled.)
