Forum Update - June 2, 2009

Hello everyone!

I just pushed an update to the forums with some heavy performance improvements done to the backend by our database engineer.  A lot of things were changed, so I don't expect this update to be perfect.  Please take a look around, and if you notice any problems or any areas that could use another performance boost, let me know here!

There were also other, minor changes made to the design and back-end structure of the forums.  Most of these are miniscule, so I won't bother to list them, but anything that seems off or wrong is definitely a bug, so be sure to let me know here or via PM!

Ya, sometimes, I noticed when using either my firefox and ie sometimes, only the front page would load fully, and when i go into the subtopics, it would just load the pinned post and the rest of the post won't show up...and when this happens, the site lags like mad

I am using the latest version of firefox and IE 7.

Awesome. Keep doing what you do!

Sweet, no troubles yet. Oh, by the way, I used to have Moosters problem too.

I just replied to a post and I can't see my reply. It shows in the My Replies section with 0 replies. I'm sure it's just a matter of taking time to register, but just in case this is the thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/354670

Prior to the update the front page/"recent" section sometimes would take a few minutes to catch up, but My Replies was always reliably showing the info but now it isn't anymore.

Edit: After replying to this thread, the listing for it in My Replies also shows 0 total replies, which is quite obviously false :)

After I edited my earlier post, I can't see any replies anymore. It just shows the OP and then the quick reply box.

Edit: Posting another reply makes all of them show up.

Edit 2: And the above problem with all replies disappearing doesn't happen after that trick.

Edit 3: My Replies still shows 0 total replies to the thread.

Navigating away from the thread seems to return the "disappearing replies after edit" problem. I just checked My Replies and edited the above post, and all replies disappeared again.

Thanx Bara!

The announcement appeared w/o all the above posts...thought I was the first. Also Your karma appeared as 0 so you got +3 from me.

Ignore, post won't show the first time

Lol annatar, I have the same problem

Wow, it feels like the Virgin fibre optic broadband advert. Good job!

Just one problem though - the 'quote' and 'reply' buttons, specifically on the replies and not on the OP, need to be space out just slightly.

The Undying.:moo: :ninja:

hey bara, I posted a comment in the "Banned Forum game" thread, but it didn't go through? It showed that it went when I posted it, but now that I go to look, the comment wasn't there, so is that a bug? Just wondering.

I know you said you weren't gonna list the minor ones, but is there a general change log we can see to know what we're looking for?

Edit: ok in my case I couldn't see any of the other actual replies until AFTER I posted in this thread...

The issues I posted above were at work running IE6 (I know, but I'm stuck with it). However, at home they persist with Firefox also. MishYu, I think you're affected by the same thing.

*Bug: All the replies have disappeared.

I navigated from the homepage and the Post appears empty of replies which were there earlier.

*edit: after the reply posted all the rest of the replies appeared.

Replying to threads has some quirks.

*same bug when you edit...goes to the OP w/o comments.

Well it's probably not a bug, and I had it before the update, but the page tends to take ages to load:

Page Render Time: 0:0:5:323 (5323ms)

Now I'm in the EU and servers are almost certainly in the USA, but that is rediculous. I don't really care that much since pages load anyway and I just read another page while loading, but it's kind of slow for a forum.

To compare, a random other site in the USA:

So errm, are the servers cracking under the pressure? Is the database low on coffee? Am I having a routing problem? Maybe it's just me, looking forward to some other stats, especially of those also on this continent.

The announcement appeared w/o all the above posts...thought I was the first. Also Your karma appeared as 0 so you got +3 from me.

I have the same problem! Running Windows 7 RC and ofcourse the integrated IE8.

Also, could you make it so that alt+s also sends your post? I've been using that shortcut since ICQ and most forums I am on also have that shortcut, but not this one.

ok maybe im missign something but under "my replies" i no longer see the arrow that used to take me to the last reply i had read on that post.  Is it gone, or is there a new way to do this?

Can see https://forums.joeuser.com on IE but not in Firefox.... tried clearing cookies, cache, everything. Dunno what's doing it but it's just a blank white page in Firefox. Running the latest version of Firefox 3.

This post just jumped from having 0 to 20 replies when I refreshed the page for the second time a minute or two after the first time.

Doh. This thread registers as having zero replies for me even when I clear my cache.

Also.....

Aaaand now we are losing posts left and right from all across the boards.

I had a case where I made a reply and it didn't show up after I hit the post reply button but a minute later it was there.

Well... now in IE this thread shows 24 replies in it, but the counter at the top shows only 20 still....
