When the map is being populated, you get a Creating World box with an indicator bar that fills from left to right. Currently, it simply fills until the map is done, and then disappears. When it finishes, shouldn't it visually indicate that by filling the bar completely rather than just disappearing?

Game froze between turns. No crash, so no zip file generated, but here's the debug.err and my dxdiag. Dxdiag: http://pastebin.ca/1904921 Debugg.err: http://pastebin.ca/1904923 Hope that helps.
It was a Kingdom custom faction, not an Empire one.
When I selected a Custom Faction after creating a Custom Sovereign, the game crashed to desktop. Debugg.err: http://stashbox.org/941947/debug.err Dxdiag: http://stashbox.org/941948/DxDiag.txt Memory Dump: http://stashbox.org/941951/Elemental0_805-2010-07-02T13-30-45-469.zip Hope that
So apparently this is what happens when you don't read the Beta Requirements section carefully enough... According to the information here , it appears my video card is not DirectX 9.0c compatible, since it only has Shader 2 functionality. Not surprisingly, the 3D video looks terribly distorted, as you can see in the linked screenshot: http://img580.imagesha
Just installed latest beta build. Now play attempts respond with error message as follows: Error Starting Program: A required .DLL file, MSVCRTD.DLL, was not found. Game will not run, please advise.

Wow! I feel so loved... :D LOL Now I just have to decide which empire to join...there are just so many! Oh well...maybe I'll wait until after I get to play the expansion some...now that the beta is out, my time away from Galciv has come to an end. But, it'll still have to wait one more day...I'm away from my beloved computer for the 4th. Cheers all, and happy 4th! :CONGRAT:
Don't know if this is of interest to anyone or not, but I thought I would post an interesting observation: Due to life and other interests for the time being, I have not submitted a Galciv game to the Metaverse is approximately two weeks. In that time, my rank has dropped from 23 to 75! Now, most of that is not my scores becoming lower due to time, but simply how quickly everyone is posting more games. Personally, this makes it quite a daunting task to try to compete on the
Re: Gibbie99 Stardock is not asking anyone to pay $30 to be on their beta test team. Stardock has created a special niche product, like a fan club or a guild or some such thing, where the consumer can pay extra money to get a higher level of access to Stardock's programs and releases. Part of that package is access to beta releases. Part of that package is also free access to all of Drengin.net's release for a year after your purchase. But it is a gross oversimplification to say tha
Guys, it's this simple: Stardock has created a special niche product for those people who are willing to pay for special features. Call it a fan club, call it a guild, call it whatever you wish, but for $30, you get greater access to Stardock products and upcoming releases. Part of this package is that you have the ability to beta-test Galciv releases before they go public. But you are not *paying* to purchase the right to play the beta release. It's more like with your extra access
For whatever reason, sometimes an AI race will be very, very difficult to get to Close. I haven't yet figured out the pattern, but even when it occurs, the AI has its price...but usually the price is much, much, much more than any sane person would be willing to pay: "Would you like to form an alliance with us Earthlings, weak alien scum?" "Oh yes, your Greatness. We who are so unworthy even to address you would happily join your Terran Alliance." "At what price?" "Well, l
All of the AI will sometimes begin a conversation just to say hello. As you know, the AI sometimes initiates tech trades. Well, if it tries to do this, and you don't have any tech to trade, the alien in question merely says hello. When the standard reply is something like "Your cause is doomed", the AI in question has asked for your aid, and you aren't friendly with them. Personally, I would love to have a whole host (or even just a few) different replies to the AI that w
Constructors also respond to keyboard commands: "G" will put them into guard mode, while I believe "S" will put them into sentry mode, although I am not sure that is the correct keystroke. Check the manual for these shortcuts. The constructor doesn't have the appropriate graphical button, but the commands work just like they do for any other ship. :HOT:
I have never used any of the optional stuff in the library, so I can't comment about them. In all my 20+ games on various settings, I have never seen the need to use any of the invasion tactics other than the standard attack. Most of the really powerful tactics cost quite a bit of money, and those that don't significantly damage either the infrastructure or PQ of the planet, both of which are very important. IMHO, it's better to loose a few more soldiers and get a productive colony than to ha
IMHO, the AI starts with at least a handful of techs before you ever get them. In the beginning, the AI is able to crank out techs pretty fast. The only way to catch up is to set your research at between 10-15% of your total spending, set spending to 100% (yes, at a major income loss), and research techs that you will be able to trade. For me, these always include Weapons Theory, Phasers, Medical Theory, Industrial Theory, Advanced Diplomacy, Advanced Trade, and some others. The AI will even
I too have seen AI colonize worlds under PQ 15. Everytime I have seen it happen though, it is in response to some new colony rush...usually initiated through the every sector in 2 directions from planet X had its PQ boosted by Y% event. Once those planets are taken, the AI has a bunch of colony ships floating around in space, and they seem to want to use them to form new colonies, even if they aren't good ones. ;p I have never seen the AI claim less than PQ15 worlds in the beginnin
Hopefully Frogboy you haven't lost interest in this topic yet... :) Everything is working fine for me. I think things are stable, the AI seems to be working well (although I agree that the Yor needs a little bit of help). The minor civs do seem maybe a tad weak, but I would rather see them do better militarily and technologically then change their trade algorithms...I like having profitable trades with them early on! :D
Straight from the source: :) (begin quote from Frogboy) Well I printed out the thread and looked through it and worked on 1.05 today (I'm on vacation but really wanted to get this out the door). Here is how the system generally works now: Difficulty Level: The base score is based on the intelligence of the various computer players. This makes up the vast majority of the score. There is a slight bonus for playing as the opposite alignment as most of the players
Thanks Frogboy!!! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: I think the scoring system reflects exactly what the devs were aiming for...a diverse system that lets the players play the way they want to. :) I seriously doubt it was intentional, but I think the decision reflects my personal biases wonderfully! :D Thanks for all your hard work and energy, and actually taking the time to base decisions on the fickle postings of your loyal fan-base! And, although some may complain that the new scor
Wow! :SURPRISED: Lot of great posts here, but also a lot more than I want to try to read in one sitting. But at the risk of repeating some of the things that have already been said, I do have a few comments...and I promise I will keep mine short and to the point. 1. I agree that the type of win should not drastically affect score...maybe a slight penalty for culture, a slight reward for military...but nothing drastic. 2. I agree that many, many things should factor into the
See, that's what I don't get. Even on games when I get all but one or two trade goods, research all techs, making good money, on painful difficulty, I now get scores around 300-500! To me, that doesn't sound like the scoring is rewarding these things. Is there some sort of super penalty applied to games due to some factor that we are unaware of? I am not criticizing, but just trying to understand why my scores have recently been so poor...and it looks like I am not the only one! Negative score
I still think the scoring thingy seems off. My last two submitted games have not scored above 1000. In one of those, I won on Painful difficulty with medium size, having completed virtually all the trades good and wonders in the galaxy, researching all available tech, and winning a tech victory. I understand tech victories aren't worth that much...but it would seem to me that game was worth more than the 344 points it was given! >:( [Message Edited]
Ok, further insight into the game logic: I have seen two different types of surrenders now. The first one is just a general announcement of an AI: I am surrendering. There seems to be no rhyme or reason who they pick in this instance. The second one is the "You can't fire me I quit LOL" surrender, where the AI chooses to surrender to whomever has the best chance of beating you. The message received at the surrender tells you which one it is. Now, maybe, it's possible there the same surrende
Just to add to the confusion... :SURPRISED: In my last game, the Drengins ruled early militarily, but then everyone ganged up on them, and slowly but surely they diminished and were all but eliminated. They were at war basically all game with the Alterans, who were mopping the floor with them. While still at war with them, they decided to surrender to...you guessed it, the Alterans. :( This to me seems broken... :notsure:
