I wouldn't mind seeing an option to pick some disadvantages but it would have to be kept to a very low number, for the reasons stated above. It'd make it too easy to abuse certain ability combinations to their maximum extent if you could pile on the negative picks. Would it be possible to include it on a trial basis? Perhaps have it that you can pick one ability to have a -10% at the start and gain a 1 point bonus, giving you a total of 11 points to allocate? I don't think 1 point would

I think the overflow/no-production problem can be kept seperate from this. A lock slider button would be useful. End of discussion? :) It's just that sometimes you want to be piling in 60% of your money into the military and just want to juggle the research and social sliders, to get good techs quicker and then get the improvements from it built quickly with higher social spending, for instance. Useful! :) ~SDC~

"Can you set up other Civs and try to get them to fight among themselves in Gav Civ? Is a divide and conquer approach possible? Is diplomacy very deep in this game and does it play a large part in the overall strategy?" It's Ga*L* Civ, not Gav. :) But, in order: Yes. Yes. Yes and if you want it to. :) ~SDC~

Frogboy has said he might include something like that soon to allow people to cheat, whilst it disables the ability to post scores to the metaverse. Until then, I don't think people should be handing out how-to-cheat tips, since it'll just end up with a bunch of people banned from the Metaverse and a less satisfying time for the rest as we don't get the very best AI updates possible due to the lower number of people playing it properly. :) ~SDC~

"Any chance of linux support. Or at least a look at why its not working well with WineX?" Because the transgaming folk are money-grubbing sleazebags? ;p As wudang said, check the linux/winex thread (wherever it may be) for some tips... But some basic starting points would be to make sure you have the latest packages of everything necessary. Try the latest released binary type version of WineX, if you're a subscriber. If that doesn't work, try the CVS version and keep updating t

You need to get the "Stardock Central" program to get the incremental updates. I'd tell you where to get SDC, but I have no freaking clue, because they don't make it easy on the Stardock website. :) If you bought the retail boxed version of GalCiv, there is supposed to be a SDC installer on the CD, though. Once you have SDC installed and configured, the GalCiv updates are in the Software window, under the Drengin.net tab. If no updates seem to be available, go to: Tools > Set

"this game that could be described as a bit like Master of Magic meets Magic the Gathering." MoM already had some very MtG aspects? Seems a bit like search engine bait to me. ;) Is there an actual website for the game yet? Or is that page on Drengin.net the limit of the info available? As I said when you mentioned this before, Brad, I'm more than willing to alpha/beta/gamma/whatever test a game like that. ;) ~SDC~

Edit. Edit. Edit. Edit. ;p A search function would also be useful. All the other things are just "Wants" not "Needs". "Wants": - Italics for emphasis - Email notification of updates to specific posts - Polls would be useful to gauge opinion on ideas, instead of having to go through and count up who wants what... Like this thread, for instance. ;) ~SDC~

"Fill in your name and e-mail (pray its not immediately entered on a spam list, though it seems to me I am getting a lot more spam since doing this!) and somehow it figures out that you have a legal copy of GalCiv." I assume you used your usual email address and not an address set up specifically to handle your GalCiv/Stardock registration? I have a seperate address for it and am receiving *zero* spam to it. Setting up SDC properly is a pain in the butt - but you only have

"Now, hopefully, nobody of the drengin.net buyers in the past will start complaining they paid 10 bucks more than anyone who's going in now before May 1, 2003?" Doesn't it work out to be a bit more expensive? I can't be bothered doing the math at the moment. :) I'm a drengin.net sucker/subscriber, but I won't complain. I'm just happy to be able to play the game again after having to do a clean install of Windows! :) ~SDC~

There actually was an AI for VGA Planets at one point. I never had the patience to find out if it was any good, though. ;) It's still available, and there's a beta of v4 which you can get. No idea if it's any good, it wouldn't run when I downloaded it a couple of years ago. www.vgaplanets.com GalCiv is better, though. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~

You need to get an answer out of Brad about whether the Archive option in SDC attaches your serial number to it or not before you can go burning anyone any copies. He promised he'd look into it quite a while back now and I'm still waiting on an answer... :) ~SDC~

Your original comment included the claim that GalCiv was the most mod-able game ever, Thrull. It may be one of the EASIEST to mod, but it's not like you can change it from a 4X, turn based strategy game into a first person shooter or anything. ;) I do agree that it's fairly easy to mod it, but there's other games out there that you can do some similar stuff with. Get your hands on the appropriate rules.ini for a C&C game and you can do a fair bit of tweaking, for instance. :) Re

Oh for an edit button... :) I actually have the MtG game by Microprose mentioned above. It was a lot of fun, especially the overland adventure type mode, which let you roam the countryside amassing cards for your deck to battle various wandering monsters and try to take control of castles and such. Tried installing it again recently but they've obviously not programmed it to take into account the much faster computers of today. It's impossible to play the overland mode with any sort

"Hey anyone remember DARK LEGIONS...?" Yep, I loved that game... Even if I wasn't all that good at it. :D Archon Ultra was much more like chess, though. It also let you control the piece in combat for the square on the board, with bonuses depending on whether the square was white or black at the time. There's so many old games like these that, if revived, would probably be deemed "revolutionary" by people who hadn't played the original, since there's been little like it sin

Heaps of CD games come out in the DVD casing now, particularly "budget" titles. There's pressure to see all games released in that style, but at the moment, the allure of having a big chunky box on store shelves is still proving too strong for many publishers. :notsure: ~SDC~

If there is one, I've never hit it, nor seen any of the AI hit it? How many ships did you have? You can certainly have dozens, so I'd look to you not having a positive cash flow and ending up underneath -500BC and thus unable to produce anything until you get out of debt? :) ~SDC~

I have MtG cards from 1994 and they're not from the "First Edition", either, so they've definitely been around longer than MoM. :) ZIP File extraction may be "basic" procedure for newer versions of Windows, but you need an external program in versions earlier than Win98SE, at the least, so it's not necessarily something everyone would have dealt with before. It's certainly not in the Win98SE "Help" file; I just checked. :) And you certainly don't need to know how to use zip files to run
