"Come on now, dont be pointing fingers before you get all the facts." The way he worded it sounded like he was in fact doing it, not just theorising. He since said that he's not actually doing that, he was only making a point. As you would see, if you'd read the whole thread, we'd already sorted that out. Don't be pointing fingers if you don't look at the facts right in front of you. :P As for the difficulty level factor... I just played two gigantic games. One on Maso

You could balance it by having EVERY race ALWAYS hate you and attack you without provocation. You could also remove the 'peace treaty' option. Both would fit in with the theme of the party. Think it would really be better as a minor race than a party pick, though... ~SDC~

If you colonise a Class 14 planet, then build the Soil Enhancement and Habitat Improvement social projects on the planet, what do you get? A Class 16 planet. Anyone else thinking that the reviewer failed to realise that the AI only colonising C16 or C17 planets could actually be the AI colonising C15 planets and improving them? :notsure: ~SDC~

Heh, I just had the same event with very different consequences. The Drengin, of all races, were culturally dominating me, gobbling up a system every couple of turns. The Arceans were clobbering any ship I tried to build. The Torians were demanding more and more money every couple of turns. Just as I'd resigned myself to being slowly overwhelmed by the Drengin as their influence built up and swamped me... I get the fundementalists event. And I'm very, very evil. My remainin

It used to be that you could submit scores from the same game over and over and only the highest score would count. I believe this has been changed, though I haven't tested it myself. The cultural victory countdown has also, apparently, been fixed in the latest update. Going to try a game tomorrow and see how it goes. :) ~SDC~

Why not just alter the AI so it can use the strategy of taking a few constructors along with it's invasion force to drop a starbase right inside your sector, thus giving it it's own boost to ships? I used this to great effect against the Altarians in a recent game. They'd holed up in their last planet and kept spitting out defenders, but due to my +2 to attack from my starbase, I was able to keep knocking them down. :) ~SDC~

"I'd like to see us do a Something of Magic type game.." If you do this, and you have a beta, please make it open to non-US residents, because I'll be there with bells on! :) MoM is still one of my favourite turn based strategy games. With some GalCiv like AI and assuming you use tactical combat for it (it's important for MoM, since there's spells you can cast that can affect the outcome) it would be a fantastic game. :) For the Circus Maximus fans above, the XBox game

Tactical combat is fun. It adds a lot of strategy to ship battles where both sides are fairly evenly matched. It can also be very pretty. It can force you to really think about whether you should protect a unit or use it as bait, etc. Not having it hardly breaks the game though. :notsure: As far as I'm aware, Warlords IV is going to continue in the same vein as it's predecessors and have the same basic sort of combat as GalCiv's? Are people going to accuse Warlords of being a non-st

You don't play as Earth, you play as the humans. Earth is a planet! :) You're the humans - but you can rename your race, name your leader, change the name of star systems. You can pick from the full set of racial abilities - you're not restricted to any specific set just because you're playing as Humans. You really won't notice the difference, unless you were really into the whole MoO type thing where you have your research delivered via a scientist of your race. The robot that tells

Cultural add-ons to a starbase expand and magnify the influence you exert on the sector the starbase is in, with some flow on effect into adjacent sectors. Mining a resource makes the benefit of that resource available to your entire race. Adding additional modules that enhance the mining of that resource increases the benefit. Other modules, such as bonuses to attack, movement, defense, repair, military/social production are only applied to that sector, regardless of if they're sit

Can't wait to see what fixing this will do to the game. ;) "Silly human! Yes we want free money and technology! Mwahahaha!" I can only imagine what would have happened if you'd programmed one of the AIs to use the tech trading "strategy". ;p ~SDC~

You do get a higher score if you do this, Daveman. You can test it yourself. Set the "autosave" to save every turn when you're in the final months of a Cultural Victory and after you win, submit your score. Then load the save game again, follow through to your inevitable victory once more (about 14 months after you load the game) and your score will have increased. There definitely needs to be a "fix" to the cultural influence calculations so it will pick up from where the influence

I'm not wrapped up in it, I just read it out of curiousity (it's 5:30am over here and I can't sleep :) ) and noted the discrepencies as I found them. Comparing it to MOO3 isn't so much the point. The review contains at least one glaring error that the reviewer doesn't seem to have investigated. I would post something in their forum, but I've found that writing to such places doesn't actually lead to any kind of result. Maybe I'm just too cynical. Or drunk. :CONGRAT: <B

Brian Clair (Publisher) - "AVault reviews games out of the box." Richard Leader (Reviewer) - "Stardock's first patch for the product..." Graphics gripe about the video cutscene when starting a new game is also inaccurate. Click the mouse and voila, no more cutscene... Or is that just me? :) Gameplay gripe about social improvements taking a long time is... misleading. They do take a long time when your economy is weak. When you control dozens of worlds you can build some thi
