Re: #4: I do think there've been times where you should probably shut yer piehole (though I think that of many forumgoers, myself included) but if the price for a CEO to be involved in the community is them occasionally delivering some uncomfortable truths to people? So be it. Your contributions far outweigh any "oh no he din't!" moments. I'm a firm believer in the idea of everyone acting like they're actual human beings, even if it is "just the intarwebs". I find PR-speak more offensi

Is that the fabled cloth map we see when fully zoomed out? Or is that the "proper" one? Also, big laughs for the item names. Any of that be in the "real" game or is that just devs goofing off? ;)
She has time for all those games? A tv show and podcast...
She is. Fuel TV on Foxtel carries X-Play, think they're usually a day or so behind. They also do Attack of the Show and some various other nerdy TV things, in amongst all the "x-treme sports" and MMA coverage. As for Morgan going blonde, she used to be way back in the day when she started out on The Screen Savers, too. It's not like she's never been blonde before. <
#3 is not entirely correct as there'd be some people who pirate who might buy the game (/operating system/graphics package) but for the exorbitant price, or things like a censorship board declaring it inappropriate and thus not obtainable in certain countries. Basically, it's not just the "scum of the universe who never buy anything" that end up pirating some things. But whining about the reality of the situation isn't going to increase your sales. Stop adding awful DRM, stop releasing
What was the engine for Empire: Total War made for, if not specifically for a strategy game? Greater developer support for customising a game is always appreciated though. Fans will get around recalcitrant developers if they must but the more open the game is, the more likely you'll get the "Counter-Strike" of strategy gaming.
She has time for all those games? A tv show and podcast...
I doubt she tries to play them all at the same time. Like many gamers she probably drifts between games as the mood takes her. :)
Alfonse, Steam has been around since 2003 and still has bugs. Just this afternoon I downloaded yet another client update for it. Then there's the bugs with trying to download popular games at the time of release, plus then authenticating with their servers... It never goes well. It's a stable platform when there's no major release going on, but since major releases is when most people care about it being stable, it's kind of an issue that it isn't. ;) Stardock Central, St
So long as Valve continue to release high quality titles of their own over Steam, like Half-Life episodes, Team Fortress 2 updates, Left 4 Dead and others, Steam will continue to do well. But so long as Steam requires itself to be running when you load a game - even if you've explicitly set it to Offline mode - there's more than ample wiggle room for other services to muscle in and grab a sustainable amount of the market. Stardock have a similar advantage in this regard as Valve
I was one of the victims of an early, buggy, GalCiv beta. :D I also tried the Sins beta quite early on, thought it was too rough at the time and needed a bunch more polish. But having seen the progress on the GalCiv beta, I knew what to expect. The most egregious abuse of the "beta" tag of late, in my opinion, was the multiplayer "beta" of Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II. I believe there may have been two whole days between the opening of the beta to preorders and the day they ann
The game itself (at least the SP campaign) is awesome . You put your ranged units behind cover to protect them somewhat and to prevent suppression. You have a melee unit/units out front getting the face of things to prevent them steamrolling the units behind cover. You can't just go running headlong at the enemy or you will get stomped. ;)
I love Steam. Have bought quite a few games off it over the years. Will inevitably end up buying more. It's a wonderful platform. But , I wholeheartedly agree that this was a terrible move by THQ. Some people bought it and couldn't even get as far as patching because it simply wouldn't unlock due to Steam not letting them unlock it yet. So essentially they bought an empty box, because that's all it was good for until Steam started verifying people's installs.</
Stun is indeed gone from the Mageslayer. :( And the end-of-game fix is in. Much smoother now, though I think it might be better with a slower spiral away from the citadel. May make some folks a little dizzy now that it's going at full speed!
It's all looking pretty good. I would have suggested some individual stat pages per demigod and per map, but I see you're already on that. :) Any chance we could have an official signature image with stats listed on it? Like you see various third parties providing for World of Warcraft, for example. Alternately, will we be able to have read access to the data (not write, obviously) so we could pull in our own stats and have our own doohickies work some magic? Obviously
1.96GB update? [e classic]X-([/e] I wanted to play before Biggest Loser is on. Thanks, Frogboy. :P Seems to be two entries in the patch notes for Mageslayer - one saying the stun proc chance has been reduced, the other says it's been removed? I'm assuming the removed one is correct? I'll check for myself... Once that 1.96GB comes down. :P
@mittense link is wrong, it's going to the Tweetdeck site. I'm just using Twhirl for my Twittering so far. Tweetdeck looks good but seems like it requires a fair bit of tinkering to get it doing what you want it to do? Will definitely try it one day though. I don't really use it a lot and mostly to annoy friends, but my Twitter name is @mythor if you want to add me to the list. Also, @islanddog re: Empire: Total War - there's a demo avail
Don't know if you care but there's a bit of profanity in one of the game names in that second screengrab. ;) I think however you end up dealing with multiplayer poison pill you should make sure the error messages are as informative as they can possibly be. Seeing "mp won't connect" all over the forums is never good, but when you can't help them due to lack of info, it's even worse!
Yay! Torch Bearer! Time to burn things! :D Will Beta 3A include the much hoped for "binary patching" thing? A 2.2GB Beta 3 would be much less painful if so... ;)
The double click to hide all the icons feature certainly interests me. Organising icons on the desktop though? Can already be done with folders on the desktop if, like me, you end up obscuring your wallpaper too much. ;) All you need to do is leave any out on the desktop that you actually use, instead of leaving every file and shortcut you've ever created out on the desktop. A little organisation goes a long way! But then, a free program to do an annoying task for you is
Saying "anything can change" in two months is pretty naive. Gameplay-wise, most likely the only things that will change will be small tweakables - small variables that affect things like spell damage, radius, etc. UI will hopefully get some fixing too. Animations and new characters will probably not get changed, as those are very expensive and time consuming. New character abilities are unlikely to get added, unless they'r
It'd be nice if you could get the Professional version and then give Microsoft $5 to add BitLocker to it. (random example) I got Vista Ultimate but it's looking like I'll only want Home Premium for 7. Ultimately I don't think I used very much of the Ultimate goodies in Vista. As Heavenfall says though, the pricing needs to be seen first. If the step from Premium to Professional is reasonable it may be more worthwhile. Of course there'll always be Ultimate to tempt us with its go
Have all the people that are convinced modding is a requirement for RTS success never heard of Starcraft?[e digicons] Frogboy addressed the concerns early in the thread - it's beta. For the uninformed that means anything - absolutely anything - could change between now and release. The final version of the game might have Regulus shooting bunnies from his crossbow. :P Want to know a good reason why they might have deliberately tried to disable modding right
How could someone two thousand years ago possibly know there'd be swarms of locusts two thousand years in the future? I'm sure locust swarms weren't even invented back then! ;)
Current beta only has one map. Previous phases have had more and other maps. And other demigods. ;) May want to bear in mind that it's still in beta, things are still changing. If you're looking to cancel just because you don't like it...
It doesn't seem to cheat from my limited experience. If it is cheating then it needs to cheat a lot more since Nightmare AI are not particularly nightmarish most of the time. ;)
I'm pretty sure you don't want to test since you termed the update a "waste of bandwidth". ;) Just because the netcode is "nasty" doesn't mean you can't test other bits. Things not working is part of testing, reporting that things don't work is important... whining about testing not going perfectly is not meant to be part of testing.
