…it nags me when the conversational music with Tywom slows…
Oh, thanks for mentioning this one. Every time it happened, I thought it was slowing down for dramatic effect and that the next thing the Tywom said was going to be REALLY important. Like the music and the conversation were linked.

System specs: i7-7700HQ, 32GB DDR4, 6GB GTX 1060 @ 1080p60, Windows 10 April update on an SSD. Running with VSYNC and 2XAA. Slowdown: the clouds on Europa dragged me down to 15 fps or so every time. This was the only slowdown below 60fps I encountered using the above specs and VSYNC. Bug: I saved the game immediately after delivering the Tywom parts and leaving Triton (right before engaging the Scryve). I had to reload this game, due to being obliterated by the Scryve, an

I'm old enough to be partial to the SC1 races and still view the SC2 additions as "new," so even the Melnorme and Taalo don't scratch that "originals" itch for me. I'd enjoy seeing the Chenjesu , even if just a random encounter or two, as they were the one of the oldest and earliest races in the Alliance and must be relatively nearby. Since they're not embroiled in the Ur-Quan conflict in this universe, there's no need to for the Chmmr merger to happen, and it'd be nice to int

Out of morbid curiosity… how do you understand the "StarControl™ © Accolade" on the title screen of the (terrible) 1991 Commodore 64 release of the first game? Paul and Fred had nothing to do with it, yet it includes representations of the original ships and races and Accolade seems to have been claiming copyright for themselves. Was this use addressed in their contract at the time? Or did it fall under Accolade's rights? https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Yes. Stardock owns all elements of SC3 except whatever material Paul and fred can show was licensed.
I would likely be alone in celebratifying the triumphialistic returnification of the mighty-thewed K’Tang and their ulferior motivations.

I like the idea. To add variety, and keep rendering costs down as the battle progresses, you could have the wreckage degrade over successive matchups. Perhaps the first round after destruction would still have a chance of leftover effects, as described, two rounds later no effects (other than physical obstacle) and some model degradation, three rounds later only a small debris field, and gone after four. During this time, of course, new and varied wreckage from other rounds would be piling up

Just a couple of observations and minor irritations from playing today. Probably not related to this new build specifically; I haven’t gotten to play much recently. - I can’t figure out how to lock in the next ship selection from my fleet using the keyboard between battles, so I have to move the mouse cursor to the center of the screen to do so. Then, when the battle begins immediately, the cursor remains in view, forcing my hands off the keyboard to move the cursor away.

The beta, however, locks out flight controls after the fight ends. Please give us control during this timeframe (also genuinely needed to avoid planets, etc. that could stil

Like many of us, this week’s beta was my first hands-on exposure to the game. Overall, as an old dude who’s a fan of the previous 3 SC games, I’m impressed. I think you’ve got the “feel” and a good start on things. Here’s a few specific observations: The Good: <span style="font-

Just tossing a few thoughts into the, uh, melee. To get it out of the way, I'm a fan of screen wrap. I was sorry to see the confirmation that it's gone, as it's a valid solution to a very real problem. Having said that, here are a few thoughts, an illustration, and some explanation: In this model, the arena itself is geometrically infinite in all directions. As long as the two comba
Wow, why couldn't the Star Control Reboot trailer be as cool and epic looking as the new GalCiv expansion that just debuted??
Because that's a GalCiv trailer and this is Star Control? If you want epic modern sci-fi there are a lot of options out there. Star Control is quirky, and I'd say the crew is doing a pretty good job of sticking to the formula so far (much to the chagrin of some around here).

5-6 for me. As a Founder, I'm impressed at the level of openness being offered and have the opportunity to read it all (or not) based on my free time and interest. Once you get past a 5 or 6, I bet you'd be talking about things most of us wouldn't understand as industry outsiders. At that point, for me, it's just wasted effort. Things about debates and decision-making processes I can enjoy; details on cmake not so much. Thanks again!

It's a fantastic look into the mundane workings of a development team — I really appreciate the transparency and learned a lot. Thanks to everyone involved. Initial feedback: On the number of world types, I see the issues in play. For "even-ness," though, I'd suggest starting with seven types—two easy, two medium, two hard, and rainbow. The current "one medium type" list seems odd. "Super Melee should stay Super Melee." It's good to hear about t
It's doable, but I wouldn't like it. Imagine viewing the game at an angle. The camera moves with your ship. You're heading toward a planet. You fly by the planet. You pass the planet. You then see the planet again in the distance. That's how it would have to work with warp edges without totally borking your camera view. Also, regarding the team's apparent discomfort over "unrealistic" edge wrapping, I always viewed it like a map projection of spherical space onto the 2D playfield—for example, it certainly IS realistic to fly from Alaska to Russia via edge-wrapping. Yes! 1. I listened to the soundtrack while reading through the news. Perfect. 2. THANK YOU for sticking with the tried-and-true Melee formula. My excitement level just ratcheted up several notches!

It's an interesting discussion for sure. Maybe some of what I enjoyed about the previous games' Melee doesn't work in a modern multiplayer game, and is only fun on the couch or in front of the computer with friends.
