Realistically, some forming of niches is inevitable. Another option may be to have "tiers" like in Supreme Commander for each faction if there are that many units. I suppose the Titan would be the equal of the experimental units and the capital ships would fall somewhere in between. Some units are used a lot early game and become mostly obsolete by late game, while late game units are better suited for specific roles. [quot
The Korx to me were the expression of what an amoral race is. Neutrality isn't the same thing as amorality. People who are neutral can still have a very strong code of morals. Ethics are different than morals. For instance, I always saw the Korx like modern international arms dealers - people willing to sell guns to anyone who brought cash to the table, regardless of what they were selling, or the obvious
One thing I'd like to see is a lot more variation between the sides. Frigates for example, we could have roles that the other races have no direct comparison to. The new capital ships in the Rebellion expansion went in that direction, but the Rankulas was well ... ineffective. I kind of hope as I said that we get some sort of a ship designer.
Likewise, most people seem to want more frigates. What roles should they fill? Previously, I've suggested Defense Cruisers to counteract bomber spam. If we're having invasions, should we have a dedicated unit for that or should existing Siege frigates get that ability (I vote they get the ability). Any other ships?
Presumably, they'd have different trade-offs for different roles.
The only other things I would add to that list is that Ironclad is working on their MOBA, and their team is too small to be working on 2 games at once (or so Stardock says). From what I understand, they own the IP to Sins. That means they may have, assuming you are right, transferred those rights to Stardock. It's likely that if you are right, then Sins 2 will have more limited Ironclad involvement than Sins 1. I suppose that we will know at

I'd have to agree that a better UI is needed. It will be needed even more if the game is s 64 bit and the unit caps are increased. Let's say that the game remained real time and most of the wishes remained true. Scale of Sins 2 will be larger because it's 64 bit and unit caps may be higher. - The problem is, you've got multiple star systems, multiple fleets, and multiple battles of several thousand units. - In fact, there m
You talk about multitasking like it's a bad thing in an RTS. The fact of the matter is in any RTS you'll at times have to manage multiple things at once. The trick isn't to nullify multitasking. It's to make that multitasking as convenient as possible so that player skill can shine through. Multitasking is part of the beauty of RTS games. A self-sorting Empire Tree so that the actua
From the information available, GALCIV3 is looking pretty much like the previous iteration with nothing that substantial to tell them apart. This is a gut feeling impression and I hope I'm wrong and there's more than updated graphics and tweaks here and there to justify wide consumer interest in a seemingly lackluster premise. Well it's looking like 1.7 is out. Some of the issues in the game have been addressed, but the issue of the AI not building more higher end units seems to remain a problem.

Balance is definitely better than the previous versions of Sins, but there's more that could be done.
again, you just need a better UI. The empire tree and auto fleeting are a start, but it needs to move to the next level. No need to change gameplay.
A better UI would not solve the problem. If you have 2+ battles going on simultaneously, your attention is divided. Either you need to: 1

32 bit as it is runs out of RAM on Sins 1. Whether 32 is faster or not - it depends. On CPU intensive apps, you can see ~30% improvement in some areas. Larger files too can be kept in the memory. The x64 architecture does have a few more registers, so you can optimize your code there as well. The only performance drawback is that you have less in the fastest L1 CPU cache and 64 bit apps use somewhat more RAM. With Sins 2 asking for everythi
SotS had tiny little fleet battles. When you're only tracking a dozen objects, you can do whatever you want to. Rotating turrets in Sins, where you track thousands of objects, would have been extremely impressive.
Modded SOTS could have larger fleet battles, with 10+ dreadnoughts, although I see where you are going with that. With 64 bit, I think that this is a real possibility.
The problem is that it suffers from terrible AI right now. More effort is spent fighting the world than other players.
I was playing on the Anthys map and the game crashed because it exceeded 2gb of RAM consumption. Has anyone had this happen to them before?
Construction animation? Probably. I don't see a need, but I imagine it could. Degrees of damage? Doubtful. Maybe simple things like at 30% health some system goes offline. But if you're talking blasting pieces off ships, you either need modular or deformable geometry. Nitrous supports rotating turrets, so you might be able to blast them off.
Considering Sword of the Stars 1 had tha
